BTW, we miss Jr. severely...he hasn't been back since Christmas and he won't be home for summer this year...rumors of a roofing job or something like that.   8)
Wartburg does graduate a pretty good TE. With some guys that have come in and some stellar recruits, maybe there won't be as much of a let down as I thought for this year.
There may be a FEMA job or something still in Waverly from last summer with homebuilding slowing down.

On a much lighter note...I have a quick story to tell.  I was on a delightful walk with my wife, kids and dog last night when a bright license plate caught my eye in a parking lot.  "That can't be an orange Iowa license plate," I thought to myself.  I asked my wife if I was seeing things and she said, "No freakin' way, Wartburg plates."  My wife, being the great SC grad that she is, said, "We should throw rocks at it." :)

Yes, seen several around DSM area lately.
Probably going to get some for my bday in June. Still contemplating what to get
BGMOUTH
MONYGUY
WASHDUP

are a few options

How about... SOCRDAD  ;D

LETS TALK FOOTBALL
Watched WC practice Sunday - summation - d will be tough - o - more balanced between run and pass next yr.  Had 2 - 4.3  40's.  The "freak" as you call him, is amazing.  It gets the juices flowing even though it was just PRACTICE.

The Wisky board has some good updates for UD.

Coach Z's son will be transferring in from UW-River Falls...a WR.

Supposedly a few other transfers heading to Dubuque from the WIAC and apparently a TE from a highschool in Whitewater that Zweifel was recruiting to Mankato St. when he was the OC there.

Sounds promising...if what they say on that board is true!!!  (three exclamations just for Dutchie and Klop)

One of the contributors on the WIAC board says that the transfers from UWW should make Dubuque a contender for the IIAC crown right away.   That makes me wonder if he actually knows what he is talking about ... and how much he underestimates the powers in the IIAC?

Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

When I see the Wartburg plate "roofer" I going to run his ass off the road.

;)
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

+k CooCoo and that says a lot coming from me!  ;D
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

Yes, in talking to my son Wartburg should be better at running the ball this season.  With Yordi back at QB they should be a dual threat.

Defense is going to be key, replacing the senior leadership from last year will be important.  It is hard to replace the size and speed we had at safety as well.

School is out this Thursday and then it is just 2 1/2 short months before they report back for practice!! ;D
Win or lose we still booze!!

Hope springs eternal ... especially for fans of UD football!

If it is true that young Zweifel will be transferring to play for the Spartans, it sounds pretty good.  Reference his performance in the 2008 season:

Of couse, we have plenty of memories when our hopes soared, only to be dashed against the rocks of another "L" in the loss column.

REMEMBER THE SPARTANS!

Yup, you heard it here first! All I'm saying is that if you add an All-American wide reciever, a solid quarterback from a D3 powerhouse, an explosive running back, and a 6'4 230 pound athletic tight end (or defensive end)..........it wouldn't be farfetched to think that it can put a team that took the conference champ into overtime and hung with two of the remaining top 4 teams in the conference into a postion where they could be in the running to win the conference at the end of the season. No disrespect intended to the IIAC. It just looks like their record from last year suggests that they weren't competitive but the scores of their games and the fact that they took the champ into overtime does.

Thanks Warhawk, that explanation makes a lot of sense.

Just want to say congrats to the Coe softball team for their runner up finish. Nice to see an IIAC school get that far.

Anyway, some football news out of Cornell. Former all-conference linebacker for the Rams Adam Eichhorn is the new DC. I only looked back a few pages so I apologize if this is old news. I think he was hired a few weeks ago but it was just put up on their website today. Here is the link

Good hire in my opinion. He is young and obviously has no experience being a DC but knowing what kind of player/person/coach he is I know he will do a great job.

There is no doubt, in my mind, that Dubuque is heading in the right direction. And there is no doubt that young Zweifel will be an immediate impact player in this conference. As far as the other transfers and contending for the crown this year? That might be a reach.
I don't think a Frosh. tight end is going to come in and be an immediate upgrade over a 2nd team all-conference tight end. And I'm not sure that a running back with 17 collegiate carries under his belt or a QB that was 16 for 34 passing last year will put the Spartans over the top. Add quality depth? You bet.
Dubuques weakness last season come from being last in run defense, 2nd to last in scoring D. last in turnover margin, ect. Also notable holes to fill on the O-Line.
I'm sure coach Zweifel is more aware of his needs than I, and I'm sure he is addressing them. In time to contend this season?

I'm not saying it's a done and done deal, I'm just saying that at the end of the year I wouldn't be surprised if Dubuque was one of the top teams in the conference. If you have two quality tight ends and a great wide receiver, it can make some very scary match-ups on offense especially when they're both on the field. I think you're underestimating the "17 carry back". He's a quality young athlete who was initially recruited to be a preferred walk-on at Minnesota. The stable is just so big at UWW that the horse didn't get a shot, especially after getting injured. I remember a guy who was in this same type of position. He got injured his freshman year and didn't get much playing time for the rest of the year. Then he went on to break NCAA rushing records and eventually win a Gagliardi. That man was Justin Beaver.

Defensively, I have no clue what shape DBQ is in so enlighten me on what they have on that side of the ball. Were they young? Do they have a lot of returners?
