There seems to be a contentiousness emerging on this page which ill-befits any of us IIAC loyalists.

Perhaps with kick-off now 107 days away ... we can look forward to better times.

Expanding on coocoo.......'s list of the national award for the football MVPs, what other IIAC players have been MVPs of their sport?  I assume we've had an IIAC wrestler or two be elected MV of the tournament.  How about basketball, softball, track & field etc.?

Missy Buttry won the Honda Award as D3's Top Female Student Athlete in 2005.  And I think one of the Schultz girls from Central won it in '07 too.

If the RB was truely next in line behind Beavers, why leave UWW for UD? No offense UD faithful.

Coach Z

Arguably Best Stadium in the Conference taking everything into consideration and one of the best in the nation in D3 (although UWW is probably still better)

Coach Z

Opportunity to be an impact player right now

Coach Z

He sees the potential for success

What is everything? Loras has the best setting. Wartburg has the best game day atmosphere and home field advantage. What other criteria are you going by? Besides Coe and Cornell, there's not a crappy stadium in the rest of the conference.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Potential for success or all reayd national champion success?
Coach Z is better then the coach from UWW? Why wasn't he given the job there then?
I'm just saying that if this kid is truely all that great, why he transferes from a national powerhouse and champion to a school that hasn't won a conference championship, and honestly probably won't be ready to content year in and year out before he graduates?
As far as UD having the best stadium in the conference - I dont know, like Walston said - Loras has probably the best setting, Wartburg has an intense atmosphere (but I thought Coe's atmosphere was pretty high) - every stadium in the conference is good.
UD doesnt compare to UWW, BTW

Coach Z is probably selling  the "be a part of the revolution" theme. If he's as good of a coach as he's being touted as, how exciting would it be for a player to go back and say "I was part of building that from the ground up." Honestly, that would be pretty cool. Established programs are safe, but emerging programs have a certain thrill about them.

We're all partial to our own schools for the best atmosphere talk -- except Simpson and Coe, right? ;) There's nothing like game day at Central. :)

I'm not saying he isn't a good player but he wasn't likely to play ahead of another running back in his class, Coppage.  Also A.Anderson (sophomore in 2008) and J.Anderson (Junior in 2008) were ahead of him on the depth chart.  So, barring the unforeseen, he wasn't likely to get any significant time on the field without changing positions for at least a couple more years.  However he did get on the field for us last year and I'm sure the staff would have welcomed him back.  We pretty much always have a pretty decent stable of running backs and he would have added to our depth at the position.  Dubuque is getting a decent running back if he does transfer.

I attended a game at Central once when my daughter was playing in a volleyball match there and was impressed with the setting and the atmosphere.  But I have heard that Dubuque has a really nice facility.

Oh my gosh WH, I can't  believe you can even put loras in the same category.....

Let's see:
1.) EASTER Egg color theme-purple track doesn't match the rest of the purple everywhere else
2.) Scoreboard is a joke---small screen, looks cheap like cartoon characters
3.) Visitor seating and concessions and bathrooms???? What??? a couple roll ins, no bathrooms close and a hodge podge concession outfit
4.) Huge liability--only time before a small kid falls off the rock bluff
5.) Atmosphere----you are in a hole looking at a bunch of mis-matched old buildings

Just my opinion, take it or leave it.
There is NO comparison between UD and Loras's stadiums. UD wins in EVERY category.

There is absolutely nothing new about student athletes transferring. It happens at every school, in the IIAC, every year. Since I've been following the IIAC, there have been players show up that started out at D-1 schools, D-2 schools, NAIA schools, Jr. Colleges, other D-3 schools, Waverly Construction firms, ect. Some come in with a little blather and hype, most don't. Typically they just end up blending in.
I think everyone on this board wants to see UD contend in football, and with the developments of the last few years, believe that they will. It just rankled me a little that getting a few from across the river would be enough to get the job done, in some eyes.

Most everybody will defend their school and think theirs is the best.  I'm fine with that.  There won't be too terrible much of a difference between most schools.

That said, Dubuque's new place has more visitor seating than any other IIAC school.  Visitors get their own concessions and bathroom facilities.  Dubuque has the biggest scoreboard with a jumbotron...so the new kids and their parents can see their mug on the big screen.  New field has the next generation artificial turf, not as much heat, less bounce, players like it.  Very nice locker rooms for the kids.  Home seating has back rests for us older people...very nice.  Luxury suites for the high rollers.  Elevators to help you reach your seats.  Indoor concessions overlooking the recreation and wellness center.

These are all things that high school kids will love to see.  Dubuque now has facilities as nice as anyones out there at the D3 level.  I can see how fans of other schools can defend their schools facilities...especially Wartburg, but Dubuque takes a back seat to nobody now.

Will this translate into conference championships in the near future?  I don't know, but I like what I see at UD.

And so I am not accused of never stirring the pot...

...I know the weather was rotten and all that, but last year on the the final weekend of the season...the weekend Wartburg clinched the conference championship in football.  About 150 Wartburg fans were in the stands to witness the game.  What's up with that great atmosphere???  ;)

As far as the new transfers into UD.  Thunderbolt and some others have it right.  A few good kids does not make a team.  Everyone gets transfers...some even from D1 schools.  Most of the time adding 3 or 4 new kids...no matter how good they are, won't make much of a difference.  Would be nice though, if these kids made a difference for UD next season...though I might be a bit biased for thinking that ;D

With all that said, you still need the whole package.  Facilities are great and all, and Dubuque fans love our new stadium.  But Central or Simpson fans will have just as great of a time at their place, even if it's older because that is the team they are fans of.  Dubuque has a great facility, our school has the money now to offer competitive finantial packages to woo kids our way.  In Zweifel we have a respected coach that has shown an ability to recruit very well.  Now, as they say, prove it.  I'm sure others out there want to see if Dubuque CAN win games.  I think they can, should be fun to see if they are able now to move up a step.  Might not be this year though.

I think worst case scenario for UD this year is another 2-8 season.  So as not to get too upset that is what I am preparing myself for.  I will be happy with 5-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play.  Anything above that and I will be very happy.

I was all stoked for a trip to Dubuque to see this football Xanadu when Central plays there this September.  Then I got instructed to save that date for a friend's daughter's wedding.  I believe a common Post Pattern lament is, "What are people thinking who get married on Saturdays in football season?"  Anyway, I guess I won't get there until 2011 by which time all of the newness will have worn off.

Do people not realize that if they get married during football season, anniversaries will also fall during football season?? Advanced planning, people!!  ;)
