I know Zwiefel to UD is very exciting and all, but it is almost starting to sound a lot like what happened at ISU 2 years ago with the hiring of Chizek. Some incredible assistant coach comes in, loses for a couple years and bolts for a better program.
I understand the excitement, but let's not put the cart before the horse.

I will bet that Zweifel has VERY different results then Chizek. Do you think the fact that all the IIAC coaches are buying Zweifel's books and tapes means they are just a "little" scared?  :o

Nope...pragmatic.

It seems like every year we need to remind each other that until you see who shows up on the field in August, you can't count on anyone wether it's recruit, transfer or returning player.

I don't know a thing about Hanson so I'm not trying to demean him but Zweifel is bringing a quarterback from Mankato State with him.  I don't know whether he'll beat out Hanson or not but he may have a slight advantage having played in Zweifel's system for a season.  Also with the addition of Zweifel's son Dubuque is getting an excellent possession receiver.  I'd expect recruit Miles Hookstead to develop into a very good receiver as well though I don't know how much he'd do his first year.

One of the differences between IIAC rosters and those of the WIAC is size.  The WIAC tends to be larger and I would expect Zweifel to recruit to bulk up the Dubuque roster.

Knowing Zweifel as I do I'm very interested to see how the Dubuque program develops although I do think it will take a season or two to get going.  But I do think Dubuque fans have every reason to be excited about the future of the program.

This presumes, it appears, that the rest of the IIAC conference teams either don't have weight rooms or don't attempt to recruit size.

Thanks for sharing the UW-W secret.    ???

Where did I imply it was a secret?   ???

I never said the IIAC programs don't have weight rooms or don't try to recruit size.  But take a look at our rosters and then look at your rosters and you'll find our rosters tend to have more size.   I know for a fact that Zweifel is going to try and recruit more size to Dubuque.

Why so defensive?  It wasn't my intention to imply anything negative about the IIAC.  But I've seen the teams you've put in the playoffs the past couple of years (Central and Wartburg) and we had more size.  I was merely making an observation.   Point had more size than Wartburg so obviously that isn't the only factor of significance.

Walston Hoover

Well, after a couple nights camping and canoeing with some Simpsonites, Donnenworth apparently has not given up his '03 MVP crown, but Wartburg retains the "Case Race" trophy.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

'Hawk, the "UW-W secret" was a mild form of sarcasm.

I think we can agree that most every coach will attempt to recruit size...what varies is that some are more successful at landing the big ones.  (Pun intended)  I think we also can agree that UW-W gets its fair share and then some (success begets success).  More power to them.

The old adage (somewhat modified) quick guys get tired, big guys don't get small is true.

But your posts suggest to this reader that somehow Zweifel is tapping some unknown well; bringing in big players, bringing in fast players, where us rubes out here in Iowa can only hope to compete now the UW-W way is being installed at UD.

Dude, be serious.

Even Cornell is recruiting size and speed.  Even Cornell has an S & C coach to build the players in the program.  Though our record won't show it, we're better off than a couple of years ago.  Our players are bigger and faster than before.

The trouble is, so is everybody else in the IIAC.  I think UD has a good thing going.  But you suggest they are making a quantum shift in their place in the league.  I suggest that they won't.

Nothing defensive about that.

Here's what I had to say about Dubuque's quantum shift in the standings.
" But, again, I wouldn't expect a miracle to happen overnight.  It takes time to build a competitive program and from the looks of things Dubuque has a ways to go."

I have no idea how you got that out of what I said.  ???  My post doesn't suggest that at all but obviously your perception of it does, that's defensive.  But just to clarify, it wasn't my intention.

My apologies to everyone for making it seem as though I am always bagging on Mr. Hansen but truly that was not my intention.....Living in the town of Dubuque and having gone to all their games and seeing the players outside of the school I can only report what I hear, But I do apologize for having it seem as tho I am bagging on the young QB I understand that this is a positive forum to comment on and I respect that, please forgive me  :)

Thanks, JT.

Sometimes what's in the locker room or just outside of it as it were, should stay there.

Speaking for myself, IF I WERE A UD FAN, I would be very excited about the recent program changes.  There is a definite intentional change by the administration to upgrade the football program, and all athletics, at the school.  It's hard not to be envious.

Though more modest, I know that Cornell has a plan and is working it as well, but they don't have the benefit of a Sugar Daddy like the Spartans, so we're moving but not as dramatically.  I'll take what we can get and it's all good.

This is truly a case where the rising tide raises all boats.

If I took a poll I would guess that most all of us feel their respective programs are in a better place than 3 years ago.

Even Coe.  Losing Raeburn was a hit, but a new field AND a good guy in Staker has to soften the blow somewhat.

For what it's worth.  I appreciate that the Head Coach, the AD, and the SID have always been accessible in the time my son has been at Cornell.  They take my phone calls and email, they answer my questions and consider my hair-brained ideas.  I believe they are as committed to winning, within the confines of Cornell's resources, as any of their IIAC counterparts.

I believe I related this previously but back when my son was a freshman and before the radio webcast was in place, the SID gave me his cell phone so I could call in from San Diego to get live game updates from the press box.

That's good customer service.

Any of you other dads of current players have similar experiences to relate?

There is a good chance Cornell will Video Webcast this season.

I know that Luther, Wartburg and Loras already does.  Who else?

UD was webcasting basketball and some wrestling last winter.  Sometimes with audio, sometimes without.  I would assume that will continue into the football season.

PH, great stories about the accessibility of the folks at Cornell.  That is a classic D3 story and something about D3 athletics that I really love.
