Luther's incoming freshman, most since '03

So far today comes news that Loras freshman enrollment is up 15% over last year.  UD enrollment is up 10% over the previous year.  And now we hear Luther will have their largest incoming class since '03.  This is good news.  It will be interesting to see how other schools in our area will fare.

I guess they don't teach the meaning of the word "basic" at Coe.

It's the word that comes before all of Wartburg's course offerings.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

As soon as I saw sportsknight had written that, I was hoping I was the only one who had picked up on that potential salvo.  To your credit you saw it and fired it back impressively.  Nice job!  Now, do me a favor and give me something to work with.  ;)

... includes 4 minds liberated from Waverly  ;)

Are these 4 minds footballers or just part of the general student body?

Sorry, no football recruiting news :(

I know 2 of these minds that are  heading to LC

1 is a son of an LC alum, that had an older brother graduate from LC in '09

The other one I know of is a PK ( Pastors Kid NOT PLACEKICKER) ;D ;D ;D

Kirk Ferentz was on ESPN College Football live last week and at the end was asked about football in Iowa and he credited ISU, UNI and "excellent D3 programs" as well as the HS coaches.

Don't read too far into these "early" reportings. If you know anything about the enrollment management business, you know 2 things:
1.) No college in their right mind is going to publicize in June that they are expecting a lower enrollment then the previous year- that is PR suicide!
2.) No college will give you "exact" numbers and MOST ALL will throw out numbers that are inflated to help with positive PR

On a side note, look at the article more closely and read between the lines:
1.) Clarke says it is too early to report----Clarke has seen decreasing enrollments over the past several years and even had to close 1 residence hall because of not enough students to fill it. Their director of admissions took another position at the college recently and rumor is, having a difficult time recruiting again this year.
2.) Loras has seen decreasing enrollments over the past number of years also so an "increase" would probably get them right to about where they were prior to the decreases in enrollments
3.) UD is the only college in town that has shown a steady increase in enrollment since 1999 (over the last decade). If your memory serves you correct you will see that was also the time of the "transformation" when Pres Bullock insituted his first Mission Vision and Action Plan for 2008.

UD has been the only college with a significant plan, great leadership, and support out of the 3 dubuque colleges and the enrollments speak to it.

Clarke has struggled hard over the past decade with enrollments, support (giving) and leadership and direction.

Loras is too concerned with UD to focus on their own mission and plan and thus you see wishy washy results in every respect from mysterious enrollments to increasing debts.  ???

UD, well, improvements in every aspect of the college and campus over the past decade. Next on our agenda, a IIAC football championship  ;D

Just my opinion but what do I know  ;)

Warthog, Footballdaddy, DBQ1965, and any other guys with adult sons:

Would you enjoy receiving a personalized Louisville Slugger bat for Father's Day?  I'm strongly considering ordering one for Old Man Sportsknight.

I think it would be an excellent gift, ignoring the fact that if he doesn't like it, he might think he's Carlos Zambrano and you're a Gatorade machine.

As in:

Next year there will by 46 intelligent ;D ;D ;D Waverly-Shell Rock graduates @ Wartburg (all totaled) about 10 in class of '13.

I have also heard there are 7 W-SR'ers heading to Pella.

A personalized bat would certainly be a thoughtful gift which I suppose is important to some guys.  If I get a bat, I want to use it to hit baseballs.  What I am hoping my adult son gets for Fathers' Day is that he gets a job and gets out of my house.

Get him the bat. Would look great sitting on an office wall.

On a side note, had my first $2.49 lunch of the summer yesterday and will probably repete today.

That would make a great gift ... but I can see wives rolling their eyes at having another dust collector around the house.

And in exactly which married household in the United States would the female not be in the lead in the "dust collectors around the house" category?
