Wartburg finishes 16 in D3 All Sports Standings
http://www.go-knights.net/news/Article.aspx?ID=3580

"Wartburg College achieved a ninth consecutive top-25 finish in the Learfield Sports Division III Directors' Cup competition.

Wartburg, with 669 points, ranked No. 16 on the final 2008-09 standings released today by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. It's the highest rank of any Iowa public or private four-year college or university in any division."

Can't believe Wartburg finished outside the Top 10, much less the Top 15.

I guess your Knights are as good as you think they are nationally  ;)

Here are the sports Wartburg does NOT field teams
W. Field Hockey, W. Bowling, Fencing,  W. Gymnastics,  M. Gymnastics,  W. Ice Hockey, M.  Ice Hockey, Rifle,  Skiing,  W. Swimming M. Swimming, W. Lax From M. Lax, W. Rowing, W. Water Polo

Almost as many NOT having teams as sport the Knights do have.
What about M. Water Polo?

I've never seen womens water polo.

I get this feeling I might actually like womens water polo.

I have this idea it's kinda like womens jello wrestling...only a little different ;D

It looks like we need to get out the check book and some more IOUs.  :-\
We need a hockey arena, a water polo pool, a fencing pit, an indoor rifle range, and more land to build field hockey and lacrosse venues.
Plus we need some of those skinny hulled row boats to paddle around on the Cedar River.

Five school in the WIAC finished in the top twenty of the Directors' Cup.  They obviously have more than Whitewater football and some good track teams.  Still I'm pleased their size and costs don't give them any competitive advantage.

Wartburg alumni and fans:  Sign up for the summer Outfly event when it comes to a park near you.  I for one want to meet the new Prez and see for myself if he believes philosophy and football can co-exist.  8)

On a positive note about the Directors's Cup:

There were 310 colleges listed on the score card, IIAC schools were ranked as follows:

16 - Wartburg
54 - Luther
59 - Coe
73 - Loras
-------------------------------
124- Central
131- Buena Vista
143- Simpson
-------------------------------
159- Cornell
220- Dubuque

Finishing 77th or better puts you in the top 25%  ;D
Finishing 155th or better puts you in the top 50%  :D
It appears to me the IIAC did quite well by this particular measuring stick.  8)

Now the whole world knows that you have seen Women's Jello Wrestling.  Just wait till it gets back to the "little ones on the lawn mower" that you have seen Women's Jello Wrestling.   :o    :D

There are active 429 schools in D-III.

Top quartile extends to 107th.  That doesn't affect the rankings, tho', but puts 4 schools in the top 20%.

Thanks for the information concerning the number of D3 colleges.  That puts everyone but UD in the top half, and the Spartans are very close to being there.

Isn't there also NCAA competition in rodeo and equestrian?

Equestrian, yes.

Rodeo?  National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association  The closest NIRA schools to you would be in the Great Plains Region, e.g., UW-River Falls, Iowa State and Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.

Yep, I got a nice breakfast made for me.  My children made some hand made cards.  Got a beer brewing book.  AND, was able to take a little nap this afternoon...before my 3 year old jumped on my belly and told me I had to play with him.  That was fun because we got to play with Lincoln Logs my in-laws found hidden deep in their attic.

Hope everyone else out there had a happy day.

Well East Dubuque, back in the day, could be a bad bad place for college aged kids.  Myself included  ;)

That has something to do with the fact my wife is luke warm at best for any of our kids matriculating to UD in the future!!!

Wartburg and Cornell are currently at the top of her list.  With our oldest heading into 2nd grade this fall, there is still plenty of time for fans of other schools out there to get their recruiting pitches in ;D

The Dubuque Bruisers semi-pro football team won their inaugural game this weekend.  38-16 over the Bridge City Knights, of Ottumwa.  Many former UD Spartans on the team.
