The countdown clock to September 6 is up and running on the Central College football page.

I just finished watching "Field of Dreams" for the um-teenth time :D

It's always fun to see the relatively brief scenes on the UD campus ... but more than that, among the several themes the film conveys is the atmosphere of idyllic Iowa.

I still remember well the year I went to grad school at UNI and we rented a farm house 3 miles south of Dunkerton.  To the west of us was wonderfully rolling countryside with a field of corn on one side of the road and a field of soybeans on the other side (along with a little bit of wild Iowa marijuana).  Sunsets were magnificent!

Michigan may be where we live now with a son and daughter and grandson nearby ... but I hope you know how lucky you are to be living in Iowa 8)

Are there any West Delaware kids headed to the IIAC?

There were a ton of West Delaware kids that attended Wartburg when I was there.  WDel was like the 3rd most represented high school behind Waverly-Shell Rock and Cedar Falls.  I think a bunch of their grads usually head to Luther as well.

Yeah, and some of us wanted to leave HS and went elsewhere....  ;)

W.D. grads tend to head to UNI, Wartburg and Mt. Mercy. A few stray from the herd once in a while, though.....

Even more than New Hampton?

Yep.  Not quite as many Chickasaws running around Waverly these days as compared the beginning of the decade.  Guess they ran out of stud receivers.

It looks like three football players from West Delaware will be joining IIAC rosters in the fall.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Two people (from differing "circles" in Indianola) have told me the SC freshman/transfer football players will be the largest since the days of Jim Williams.  They gave me specific numbers, but I don't like talking specifics because like everyone has said on this board...you really only know how many you have when camp opens.

If I remember right, Marshall and Lechtenberg are both pretty good all-around athletes.

In Comparison to WD, I think we only have 3 guys that are planning on playing in college, 1 at Simpson, 1 at Wartburg, and one at Billy Penn. There may be more that I'm not aware of but I think that's it. I know we had some guys early on that were planning on going the CC route, but not sure if that is the case anymore or not.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Or by the time camp closes.  Often times you find kids that show up for camp are caught off guard at how tough it is and are off the team before school starts.

I forgot how much food a young man can eat until my son arrived home from college this spring.  The old grocery bill has hit an all time high with him needing to gain 15lbs over the summer before reporting to camp in August.

No complaints though, it is good to have him home and have someone to talk intelligently about football with around the house.

Nothing against my wife and daughter but it is just better.  :-X

I can't wait until September 5th!!!!!!!!

We're not going to have the "boys are better than girls" discussion, are we?  ::)
