Thunderbolt:

We had to get back across the river for the wine festival in Sherrill so a side trip to New Glarus was out of the picture.  Last summer Mrs. Warthog and I spent a few days in and around the Mt. Horeb, New Glarus and Mineral Point area.  We brought some Spotted Cow and Totally Naked home for a picnic we were planning.  Both are nice brews and were a hit for the folks here in corn country.  The guy who had the melted beer/pop/liquor bottles had Spotted Cow bottles available yesterday, but I didn't notice any Totally Naked bottles.  I'd guess the TN bottles sell out quickly when he makes them up.  Incidently, I recommended he obtain and melt down some Hub City bottles.

As an aside to microbrew beer, we attended a wedding Saturday that featured Blue Moon on tap, a surprising bit of culture in what was essentially the middle of a corn field.

I believe in '99, there were at least 3 All State QB's. Maybe more. Represented the 1A, 2A, and 3A all state QBs. The guy who ended up starting 3 years from that group didn't get all state honors

And Dubuque plays AT Luther that year.  How convenient ;D

Better reserve my in-laws for babysitting duties right now...doolittle and the mrs. will be making a trip up north!!!

With all the play being given to Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong's first step onto the moon, how many of you on here were even around then to remember that event?  And those of you who remember it, what do you remember of that day?

I preached at the Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa that morning while the Pastor was on vacation ... and then my wife and I watched the moonwalk that evening from our UD home at 421 McCormick Street (it's a parking lot now) next to Chalmers Field ... home of the fighting (but not too successful) Spartans in those days.

What were you up to?

Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

My parents were 10 and 7, respectively.

I was in Fort Walton Beach, FL  at my buddy Mike Pattison's house.  Our folks were BBQ'ing and it was a fairly big party.

Mr. Ypsi

I was 20 and working at a summer camp in Ohio.  We gathered all the campers in the mess hall to watch it on TV.  I still remember how giddily excited and 'unprofessional' Uncle Walter was - THAT kind of 'unprofessionalism' we could use more of. ;)

I was 10 and remember watching it with my parents and middle brother. I remember the sense of pride we all had. If we knew really how sketchy the whole moon program was, we would have never let anyone go. Today we have hundreds of times the computing power in a pocket calculator than Apollo 11 had in all its computer systems. The sheer guts and bravery all those in the lunar program showed is what got them through. I wish we could find more of that attitude today.

You beat me to it.  I've been listening to the anniversary coverage today, and it struck me that my cell phone has more computing capacity than the entire Apollo program had! :o

It was a truly amazing event.

Perhaps even more amazing (in a sad way) is that it has been 37 years since anyone was there.  Regaining some of the wonder of those years might do marvels for the national psyche.

Thanks, Walston for your information.  That was sort of how I remembered it.  It was because of that recruiting bonanza that I have come to realize that while high school honors are nice, they don't mean automatic accolades in college.

But would not be so good for the national budget.
