Seeing Walston Hoover is heading out to football camps this week, along with Purple Heys putting up his picks for Preseason All-IIAC, as well as waking up to another morning of low 60's temps is really getting me anxious for football.  Mrs. Doolittle and I will be in Dubuque this weekend for my frats summer golf outing and picnic.  I will probably once again have to drive us past campus and tell her yet again about all the good times my friends and I had there.  Only to have her answer back, "you had too good of a time here"

Anyways, football can't come soon enough...I will probably find myself trying to find CFL games on tv soon to get my fix ;D

I've hit a few Barnstormer's games for my football fix recently -- even with the IIAC representation, it's not the same, but it has me geared up for college ball this fall.

I'll be heading to the Key City area myself this weekend -- Double D, you can call me if you and your brothers get out of hand and someone needs to be bailed out of jail. ;)

Mu Sig, right?  I was their Faculty Advisor in that '68-'71 stretch.  Wonder if any of that era will be around?

We will have a few there that graduated around '82-'83  None that were there in your day...they're probably all too busy getting hip replacements and stuff like that in their old age :P

dutchie - be prepared for a call from the East Dubuque police about 3am...bring cash ;)

At some point before that you might be able to find us at either The Meadows golf club, the park in Asbury, The Doghouse bar near UD, or 1 of about a dozen other bars we have been known to visit.

And this is the one weekend in a stretch of about two months that I'll actually be in town as well.  Although in light of this new information, I'm going to seriously think about making out-of-town plans.  :D

Wow. The triple whammy. Methinks it would be good to avoid NE IA altogether.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

No worries -- I'll be in the area -- McGregor -- for a wedding, so if you remain in the Dubuque city limits, you should be safe.  ;)

The PH 2009 Preseason All-IIAC Team

Offense:
QB:  Yordi, Wartburg; Hansen, UD
RB:  Hammes, Coe; Harvey, Wartburg; Donscheski, BV
WR:  Zweifel, UD; Tierney, Cornell
TE:  Macey, Cornell
OL:  Carroll, Simpson; Stoltenberg, Luther; O'Connor, Wartburg; Schaeffer, Loras; Laffey, Simpson
K:  Rausa, Coe
KR: Fleming, UD

Defense:
DB:  Bladt, Cornell; Theobald, Luther; Jahnke, Loras; Patterson, Luther
LB:  Thomas, Coe; Harrison, Coe; Hansen, BV; Bladt, BVU
DL:  Kuennen, Luther; Kikilis, Loras; Wong, Central
P:  Brondyke, Central
PR: VanDenHul, Wartburg

PH - I salute you for the effort and honesty regarding selection criteria, that said I have to come to the DEFENSE of my STORM.  They led the IIAC in Total Defense last year, have 6 returning defensive starters and not one made your list.  So I'll make my case for some of them:
Onstot LB  -   10th in conf. in tackles at 81 which ranked second on last years team
Reutzel DL-    55 tackles and 5 sacks
Wolfe - DB -   42 Tackles - 4 interceptions returned 154 yds (led conference)  plus 1 fumble recovery
Courtney DL - 7 sacks

OK I admit some fatherly BIAS but we are allowed that right   :D

I will stipulate that all your points are well taken.  It was hard for me to determine from Simpson's site who was at what class level...I did not want to put graduated seniors on my list.

I had Reutzel on my list...but I thought he graduated...I might have mistook him for the running back.  Wolfe is an excellent pick and I agree that I overlooked him (I fixed that)...but DB's were the hardest to pick from my perspective.

BTW - You may or may not know that Simpson is my spoiler pick to win the IIAC...that is...after my Rams.   8)

I am sure there will be further comments about one's team being under-represented or another being over-represented...That's OK...that's the point...it's a topic for discussion on a FOOTBALL discussion board.

Take some time and put YOUR selections down and let's compare and discuss.

It will be fun to see how many one can get correct in comparing the end of the year list.

Once camp rolls in and I am sure who came back (there always seems to be one key defection), I'm going to compile my own Ram preview.

Hopefully Bush and Campbell are the extent of our losses to the DNR list.

Hopefully not a lot of DNR's for anyone but with challenged economy you just never know how many may not have the luxury of playing D3 football - the local community college or state schools are certainly a LOT less $$$ but I'd hope they'd all finish their degrees irregardless of where.    Once Tuition, Board & Room blew by $30K I just quit looking. Once he starts making the big bucks maybe he'll take care of me when I'm old and decrepit - oh hell I'm already old and decrepit what was I thinking.
