Regarding the good things happening at UD: Beyond the generous gifts UD has been receiving that have allowed some wonderful facility upgrades, the good things happening in the city of Dubuque has to be a factor.  Dubuque and the three colleges have a wonderful opportunity to become a center for high tech jobs and training for the next thirty years.  It will be interesting to see which college becomes the community leader in high tech education.

Dubuque is on the move.  We saw tons of new construction when we were at the wine festival a couple weeks ago.  Dubuque is having a transformation in the midst of hard economic times when other cities are not enjoying similar results.  This bodes well for not only UD but also for LC and CC.

I would think that not just for athletics, but for the whole admissions offices in general at UD, Loras, and Clarke that they will be pushing the IBM angle as well as how much development is going on in Dubuque during this down time in the economy.  For someone that saw what Dubuque looked like 20 years ago it is amazing to see the transformation the city has gone through.  Hopefully, that translates into kids with some athletic ability on the grid iron for the Spartans ;)

Reading the Central preview, it sounds like the Dutch have moved to the 4-3 D. Anyone able to confirm this?

Thats good to see. I thought the stack 33 was interesting but the 3 DB set got us burned a few times.

Also, any word on where Nate Doeden went? He stepped up into the starting roster near the end of last year but isn't mentioned in the season preview.

Dubuque Telegraph-Herald with a story about train service between Chicago and Dubuque...as well as Chicago and Iowa City.

Maybe UD...and Loras could use that as a way to lure potential recruits to Dubuque.  Along with all those IT jobs IBM is bringing to town as well as how nice campus looks and improved academics...yada yada yada.

Adkins has both Volleyball and Soccer previews up. Hopefully football soon to follow,

Football Season At Last!!!

http://www.central.edu/athletics/story.cfm?StoryID=2411

This seems kind of unbecoming of the Dutch to offer excuses for last year's performance.  Every team has injuries or has to deal with players who they thought would be in place but for one reason or another, weren't.

2 years ago they weren't making too many excuses for missing an IIAC MVP like  Schuring...They adjusted...guys like Connell stepped up...and they won.

Regardless...The Dutch look better on paper than last year with experience gained throughout the lineup.  It will be interesting who will earn the nod at the QB position.  Any word on who has the inside track?

God i wish Dubuque, would've had this when i was there. I had to worry about my tank of a car dying on the hills of Jo Davies county.   It would've been nice to have a quick 3 or 4 hr nap.  Boy DBQ is becoming quite cosmopolitan.  next thing you know they are gonna get ride of bars like Murph's south end tap and Breezers for nightclubs.

Just came across this article.   nice work Freddy.   approx $2 Mil/year -  I hope he's smart with all his jack and doesn't blow it all trying to keep up with others in the locker room.

this cat gained 20lbs After college.  that's crazy.

PH, in all honesty, its not like Central to make excuses but they have a legit point. I wasn't able to follow the season all that closely from NC but from what it sounds they were banged up pretty good. Snead, who I would say has the inside track for the QB this season, got hurt two series' into the season. Leushcen (sp?) who was projected to be the starting TE, got hurt in the preseason. If I remember right, there were a bunch of guys on defense who were banged up throughout. Throw in Coach Anderson's program, a new defense, and hungry attitude, I think Central will be right back at the top.

August 1st tomorrow
35.5 days to kickoff.
Central's preview is up
Red shirt  - check
red hat - check
red sweatshirt for the late season playoffs - check
Fresh bottle of scotch to toast the Dutch victories - check
red shades on to make those predictions - check

I'd say I'm ready for some football, too ready, already cracked the scotch open.

Also did something I've never done before +K to CooCoo, not for being politically incorrect, but for effectively ending that damn soccer discussion.
