At the end of last football season, we had ESPN's College Bowl Mania ... followed in March by the Final Four March Madness contest.  Now ESPN brings us  :D COLLEGE PICK 'EM :o where each week participants will have a chance to pick winners from 10 BCS games AND rate on the basis of confidence in each pick winning.

So that  we not only will have our own Pick Em for IIAC teams ... I have set up an IIAC entry for ESPN's College Pick 'em if you are interested.  By now most of you have an account with ESPN.com ... so go to this link ...

http://games.espn.go.com/cpickem/en/frontpage

sign in ... and then join the IIAC Forever group.  The "password" you will need is IIAC2009.

Let me know if you have trouble signing up.

I'm in.  Thanks for setting this up.  I have this for amunition now when I tell my wife and tuesday and thursday nights that I REALLY need to watch that Sun Belt or MAC game on ESPN2 instead of her getting to watch "Say yes to the Dress" or "Chelsea Lately"

Chelsea Lately is hilaruiuos. Mean spirited and wrong, but hilarious.

As far as our Cornell brethern, I side with Heys. Speedkills, don't knock on your school in that way and not expect to get something back. It especially gets me that after you blast the retention rate and the current coaching staff you come back with how you bleed purple and white. I will congratualte you on your track career. but don't strain yourself trying to pat yourself on the back while puffing your chest out. It makes everything you say ring hollow.

At the Kinghts dinner on saturday night it was hard not to notice a large contingent from Ankeny along with a significant presence from the Chicago area. The room was electric with coaches and players ready to get the campaign started.

This was posted on another board.  Think it will catch on in the IIAC?

GO SPARTANS!

Now that Eric Raeburn is no longer coaching in the IIAC, it has a much better chance.

Cheap shot. Wartburg fans should know better considering their own coaching legacy.

Which current/former Wartburg coach flat-out refused to shake hands with his counterpart from another school exactly?

Interesting picture on the Kanniget Football site...Notice Yordi NOT throwing with the laces.

Is that his regular method or maybe it was a quick route pass.  I seem to remember the latest Miami (OH) QB throws without using the laces.

Ive said before that I like the coaches.  I just feel that the school doesn't do enough on their end of the bargain, and maybe that's just the nature of playing DIII sports vs. scholarship programs.  There is very little support for athletics at Cornell outside the athletes, parents, coaches.  One of my friends was encouraged not to return for his final year of eligibility (he was a transfer) because he would have graduated with that one year left.  The high ranking athletic department employee didn't want to harm Cornell's graduation rate.  That's the mentality.  I may be wrong, but I doubt that is the scenario at some of the other more athletically prominent schools in the IIAC. He came back and went on to be an All-American that year.
Terrell Owens was asked for one word to describe himself. He said "confident." When asked for another word he said "very."

I Wouldn't be surprised to see one of those guys from Ankeny contributing right away.
No reason the DL shouldn't be a strength again for the KNights this year.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

I am a little surprised that SpeedKills84 is getting pounded.  I've thought he has been clear he bears no ill will to coaches or athletes.  Rather he is expressing an opinion that I've heard expressed by a former member of the Cornell Board of Regents; "The administration could be more supportive of Ram athletics.".

Incidently SpeedKills84, were you a football player who found you could excell in track & field or were you a track guy who brought your speed to the football team on a lend/lease program?

I have no idea, but with the amount of times the Knights throw the bubble, I wouldn't be surprised if it was that being thrown out of a Gun formation.

Man you U-D cats really must have some issues with the duhawks, somebody body over at Loras kick your dog or something?

Like i said i played, ball at Loras and i was cool with most U-D guys i ran across.

And that guy was a douche because he was a soccer player and  a cubs fan

Sportsnight is a Wartburg fan... but also being from the area, he has experienced the "Lorass attitude" that permiates the area.

As for us UD cats........years of frustration listening to obnoxius lorass followers even if they weren't better, they always "thought" they were  ???

I, for the RECORD, have some family and friends that attended lorass.

However, I did not talk to my sister for 4 YEARS because of it   ::)

We have since mended fences  ;D

Maybe it's me, but first impressions mean a lot and my first impression is that of one who got a good education, enough support from the athletic department to be an All-American, and is successful enough to support the program after graduation, but still feels like he didn't get enough. Not enough support from the school in general, or enough from the new coaching staff to stick with the team when the style of offense changed. Also resorting to name calling when presented with a valid argument doesn't hold well with me either. Maybe if I met him in person I'd find my new best friend, but I doubt it.

To add to what WillieU was saying...

Most of the the Loras students I met were pretty decent.  The thing is, I rarely met any Loras students.  Where exactly they hung out, I don't know, but we rarely ran into them.  And we pretty much blanketed Dubuque in places we hung out.  While most Loras students I would imagine are pretty nice people, the bad ones are the ones that stick in your mind.  While picking up a friend of mine that was taking a class at Loras a girl told me to roll down my window.  When I did she handed me a note.  It said poor ass UD students didn't belong taking classes at Loras.  That was a one off thing but that is what I remember of Loras students.  Unfair maybe, but that sticks in my mind.

Which brings me to my next point.  When we were at UD, you were on your own to find transportation back and forth if you were taking a class at Clarke or Loras.  Now I hear UD has a shuttle service for the kids at the new upper class apartments below Chalmers Field that takes them from their apartment, up to the campus.  Not much a walk in my opinion, but I guess all that new money flowing into UD is paying for perks like that ::)

I don't have much of a hatred for Loras...well I kind of do, it's just really easy to pick on them when they hardly ever show up on here to talk sports. ;)

what years did you guys graduate from UD?
