How many other old codgers remember not getting water breaks because it made us tough to practice long hours with no water? Coaches and trainers are so much wiser now. Hell, we'd never heard of a trainer in high school.

That North Carolina coach and school will probably be looking at a wrongful death suit, too.

53 Freshmen
33 Sophomores
24 Juniors

Looks like quite a few 4A (Iowa largest schools) and still support from smaller schools as usual.

Congrats - VERY SOLID recruiting class

I wanted to watch the AP game.  But instead am watching the Wizards of Waverly Place movie with my daughters...and playing on here...so I can get a bit of football.

I think you need to introduce the phrase "Kids, some things are more important" to your parenting vocabulary.

Good or bad omen of the Duhawks:  Iowa City High came into the Rock Bowl and put a hurting on Wahlert tonight, getting out to a 38-0 halftime lead before lightning delayed the game for about an hour.

WH congrats on the victory last night.   Looks like Wartburg landed a couple good size running back 6'0 220lbs and 5'11 216lbs now  we have to wait and see how good they are.

AZDutchman, I also want to welcome you even thru you are a Dutch fan ;D

AZDutchman

Wartburg Fan,
Appreciate the welcome. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a, "welcome you to leave", in November. (Nov. 7th. exactly) I'm just getting to know this conference and teams. Noticed on the Knights roster a lot of Illinois players. I'm a Illinois native myself. (20 yr. Az.) So, I would like to believe that great players still come out of Ill.  ::)
I'm very interested to know how this season plays out. I know that every season has it's own story, but it seems that Iowa has some great history behind it.
I have three sons playing ball (N.Y., Iowa and here) and I think my week ends are going to be interesting.  :o Fortunately, my daughters love to watch football. So I won't have to introduce the phrase, "Kids, some things are more important" (sportsknight)  8)

AZDutchman where are you in the valley?  I'm in north Phoenix off of Happy Valley.  I have a son here that plays too, as well as one that plays at Cornell, and a daughter up in Utah that runs cross country and track.  Went to Deer Valley and Brophy last night and it was hot!

AZDutchman

desertgator,
I was at the same game last night, because my son plays for Brophy. That was the postponed game I was speaking of. (8pm start) We just moved to 83rd. Ave. and Union Hills. And yes, it was hot!  ??? Car reading was 111 degrees at night on the way to the game.
We will have to get together one day. Maybe I found my care package delivery.  ;D Desertgator Deliveries

That's great.  We have a lot of friends that play for Deer Valley.  I coached pop warner here for a number of years and then at O'Connor high school where our youngest is a senior this year.  Are you guys going to go up for any games this year?

AZDutchman

desertgator,
I'll send you an email. This way we won't hold up the board.

Nice to see some football being played at Clark Field today with two high school games moved there after the flash flooding. Can't wait until next Saturday when the Kohawks open up the season against Augustana.

I'm so ready for football I am listening to the internet broadcast of Upper Iowa @ Lincoln.  UIU is up 14-0 early in the 1st quarter.  Odd to listen to the Peacocks take it to a D2 school when they so rarely were able to do that in their D3 days.  With them being the only D2 rep from our state, I hope they do well.
