Upper Iowa up 44-6 at the half.  The Peacocks were on the 1 yard line and had a shovel pass intercepted and ran back 99 yards for the pick 6 right at the end of the half.  Yikes.

Seems like every once in a while in the thread kickers and punters are talked about. So, here's my two cents....

I think kickers and punters get criticized more than they should. Hopefully this will make sense the way I put it, but the percentage of missed field goals is much less than the percentage that an offense misses in touch downs. As far as punters, the amount of yards lost from a bad punt, is far less than yards given up by a defense.

Would I rather have a mediocre kicker or a great quarter back in a situation of fourth down, on the 30 yard line and only one play opportunity to score? Mediocre kicker. I have the same thoughts as far as a punter compared to a defense in certain situations.

The main thing is kickers/punters add excitement to the game. It is one quick play that can draw everyone's attention towards a goal post. Keep in mind, even though the kicker/punter is the one being focused on, there are 11 men on there way to do everything possible to stop him and ten other men trying to help the kicker do his job.

It's all a team effort. Not just one man trying to be the best by himself. No matter if he's a kicker, punter or quarterback.

Mediocre or not, it is exciting to watch!

Thought for the day:

The honor of my race, family and self is at stake. Everyone is expecting me to do big things. I will. My whole body and soul are to be thrown recklessly about the field. Every time the ball is snapped, I will be trying to do more than my part...Fight low, with your eyes open and toward the play. Watch out for crossbucks and reverse end runs. Be on your toes every minute if you expect to make good.  Jack.

Good article on Nick Yordi in today's Register. They also highlited a lot of IIAC players to watch. This is more ink than the conference got all year last year.

Any word on how the Central alumni game went? The Armed Forces Network overseas doesn't do a very good job of covering D3 events lol

Sure, luck means a lot in football. Not having a good quarterback is bad luck.

Not exactly sure how the game went, but I do know my son was taught a lesson. Standing, one second....On his back, the next second. Alumni 101 class.  :o I will see if I can get more info.

Thank you for your service Airborne Dutch!!

Much obliged. I got the letter to play but I A: realized that I would be somewhere over Europe when it was time to kickoff and B: the knees probably wouldn't be able to take full contact. I'm still nursing a cracked knee from a flag football game in March and jumping out of airplanes takes its tolls.

My school knows better to send me a letter to play, because A. they know I would hurry and put myself over Europe so I wouldn't have to play and B. They know my knees are so bad that it would be embarrassing to have to put a wheel chair out there for me! :-\

Maybe everybody is too nervous with anticipation to talk on here :o

I am in luck for saturday.  My wife is taking our kids over to her parents early.  So I can watch the Hawkeyes on TV and Dubuque on the computer...as well as follow the other IIAC teams in relative peace.  Before heading over to Clutier to join them later.

Should be a very good opening Saturday of the season.

I am curious to know if I will have a roster of current UD players by kick off on Saturday.
