I love how UD's roster has become like the friggin' Pentagon Papers around here.  ;D

Looks like Loras has re-done their athletic website, and they have their roster up now as well:  http://www.duhawks.com/roster/7/5.php.

Of the incoming freshmen the Duhawks bring in from Iowa (not near as many as come from Illannoy), it looks like the majority are from either Waukon, Western Dubuque, or Wahlert.  They did recruit other schools besides those three, right?

I think the Loras alumni connections in the Chicago area are something that should be taken advatage of.  I'm happy to see the number of recruits they are getting from Illinois.  I noticed that they got a pretty good lineman from Cedar Falls, though.  Having seen him play a few times last year, he was a pretty good get for Loras.

Are they serious with the Lorass TH article?? Talking about beating Wartburg and Central first of all AND all the conference championship talk  ??? Especially without McGrew  ???

I don't find that nearly as funny as Zweifel's quote about winning IIAC championships being the only thing that matters.  How did that Loras-UD game last year turn out again???

Congrats on the 6-4 season last year, that's about the best you can hope for at Lorass. We've got bigger fish to fry....

Good luck this year

... but without a doubt I think that Luther has the best natural grass field. The stadium itself is really nice and with the addition of a new track, and some new visitor stands that stadium would be a little better ...

OK all you coaches and easy- chair coaches how would you handle this, other than make sure everyone is clear on what is camp and what is season? If they were playing UNI instead of Grandview would the players get the benefit of the confusion?

Drake football coach suspends total of 14 players

Coach Chris Creighton said the infraction occurred because of confusion over when the in-season rule would take effect. He said after Friday night's final preseason scrimmage, some players went out for beer.

"It was after the first week of school but not a game week yet," Creighton said. "I did a poor job of clearly reminding them that it was not (like) a Saturday night. I truly believe that many of the guys interpreted the rule that that Friday night would be (like) a Saturday night.

"Camp is camp and the season is the season. To me, that was the season. To those guys, there was some unclarity as to whether that had started or not. Nobody caused trouble, nobody was arrested. But because of their character and with the confusion, they self-reported to me that some of the guys had gone out and had a beer or two."

Creighton said because of the confusion, he debated whether the suspensions were warranted, but that he decided it was important to keep the rules and the specified penalties in place.

I think your answer is right there.  He debated and decided Grand View was a risk he could take.

Dubuque Telegraph-Herald with their UW-Platteville preview today.

http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=255396

BVU plays @ Platteville this weekend.  UD gets Platteville at home the following weekend.

Interesting note here.  Sounds like the WIAC has gotten around the whole redshirting ban for D3...

...The offensive-minded coach believes his team will be better equipped this year because of the freshman he will start at quarterback.

Nick Anderson, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound Sycamore (Ill.) product who was cut last season in order to save a year of eligibility, won the job and Emendorfer's confidence in preseason camp.

Then the story mentions this... "He had a great spring. He's gotten stronger, and he's very composed," Emendorfer said of Anderson

Also,...played well in Platteville's scrimmage against Iowa Conference power Wartburg last weekend. "Right now I'm confident in Nick to lead this offense. I think he'll surprise some people as a freshman."

I suppose that's all legal by the rules.  But I think that is going against the spirit of the law.  Nice to not have him on your fall roster but then have him around for spring drills to have him ready to go the next year as a freshman eligibility wise.

Quote from UW-Platteville right up:

That's not a view everybody shares. In a preseason poll of the league's sports information directors, Platteville was picked to finish dead last in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Pioneers respectfully disagree.

While he readily acknowledges it was just a preseason exhibition, Emendorfer can't help but be excited by the way his team scrimmaged against Wartburg, which last season won its fourth Iowa Conference title in the last seven years.

"We had the ball nine times and scored eight, and that was without three or four of our top receivers," Emendorfer said. "That did make us feel confident."

Is this true? I certainly hope Wartburg was playing their 3rd and 4th team defensive units and platteville their starters? Any wartburg faithful at the scrimmage that can comment on this?

I bet (THEY) are pretty popular with their teammates about now.

I remember someone posting on here last year about how Platteville manhandled Wartburg in their scrimmage. Then UWP went on to another last place finish and the Knights went on to the playoffs. With one winning season in ten years, this coaching staff needs a good year badly.
