Wow been away for a while...

I felt the same way about Central as last year, although I dont see the burg going 0-2 to start the year. Im hoping for every team to come into conference play 2-0!

The Dutch will have their hands full with UWSP next week though, one week at a time.

Go Dutch, beat the Muskies

I certainly hope Wartburg was playing their 3rd and 4th team defensive units and Platteville their starters? Any Wartburg faithful at the scrimmage that can comment on this?

You may notice I've been quiet concerning the 2009 edition of the Knights.  I'm not quite as confident as the polls have been.  I wouldn't be surprised to see the Knights limp into the IIAC games with a 0-2 record.  They have lost much of the team that took them deep into the 2008 playoffs.  I hope not, but I'm a little affraid for early 2009.  It may take some time to get the young stallions in the harness.

I'm right there with you DutchHawk.  I have been gone from the board for way too long.  Work and school is keeping me busy.  Good luck to all the IIAC schools in the non-conference games.  Let's get W's all around.

Now I gotta go hunt down the pick'em board so I can get my picks in before the games this weekend.

I've got such a jones on for IIAC football that I'm actually considering making the short trip up to Platteville to see BV vs. the Pioneers tomorrow.  I've never been to UWP's facility, although I hear its pretty nice, so this might be as good a time as any to get up there.

I do have to say that I'm still pretty confused on the who's who's in the high school level of Iowa football. Who's the decades powerhouses and who's the upcoming champion? What I do know is it is Friday and it's time to watch some football. A prelude to the opening day of college ball.
I'm going to be listening to the Central game via my computer, but that's alright. I can yell at my computer just as well as my TV. Let the week end begin!! ;D ;D ;D
Non conference games make me really appreciate the conference and the webcasts.  It's much more fun to yell at the computer when you can see and hear them, though not always coordinated to be on the same play at the same time.  Saw your son got some PT Saturday night.

I'm picking the IIAC to go 5-4 this weekend.  I think the conference is getting stronger, but it looks like they've also schedules some very good teams for these games.  Only Central, DBQ and Cornell have what I see as bottom half finishers in their conferences as opponents this week.

Any other Dutch fans get a look at the starting line-up,  looks to me like the biggest offensive 11 I've seen from them for quite  awhile.  If Lackey gets to rotating in at RB they just get bigger!

Time is running out to join the IIAC Forever group on ESPN's weekly Pick 'em contest.  Each week ESPN gives you 10 BCS teams' games where you pick the winner and rate your confidence level on each pick.

To join the IIAC Forever group ... go to http://games.espn.go.com/cpickem/en/frontpage ... and sign up.  The password for the group is IIAC2009.

Only doolittledog and I are signed up so far.  Surely you don't want UD Spartan Nation to steal all the glory!

I'm in!  I may forget from time to time as I get preoccupied on D3 football!

I think Mrs. Warthog and I will drive over to West Liberty and see how BB's Mepo Bulldogs do against the Comets.

I'll take the Bulldogs and give 6 1/2 points.

I should be a high school football handicapper.  BB's squad wins 21-14.

Yes, sportsknight, I think he has a good team down there.  Unfortunately this week they had a freak practice injury and lost for the season the guy who could arguably be the team's best player.

Congratulations to Walston Hoover on his team's ass kicking win in this week's Iowa High School game of the week.

Bloody Marys sound good, but I don't think you are devoting adequate time for tomato juice consumption.

ah Warthog, you start my day with a smile.  +K for the thoughts of the day!

I'm new to the Blackberry world, if the wife is going to pull me away from my computer and frown upon  earbuds this afternoon, what's going to be the best means of getting Central updates via mobile fruit?

CR Gazette Article on Cornells TE
Californian finds a home among the tall corn (and beans) in Iowa

By Jeff Johnson - The Gazette

Alex Macey knew about the corn. Youre from out of state, you always know about the corn. I never came on a visit. I took a shot in the dark, the Cornell College tight end said.I had no idea what it looked like here. All I expected was corn. I didnt even know there were beans. For some reason, Macey decided four years ago to leave the Pacific Ocean paradise of Oceanside, Calif., for the corn and the beans.

Alex Macey has a chance to be an All-American candidate at tight end,Dillon said. His improvement from his freshman year to where he is now ... he is literally uncoverable right now (for) an inside defensive player. I dont think theres a linebacker or a safety that can try to lock him up and cover him right now.

Hes 6-6, 250 pounds, and hes a 4.6 40 guy. Hes got the total package. Weve got to manufacture ways to get him the ball. And manufacture ways to get some victories. Or at least one. Cornell has lost 18 straight games, 28 straight Iowa Conference games.

Actually, there were two reasons he went to Mount Vernon college and football.

I just wanted to play football, and they gave me the best shot to do that,Macey said.At first, I wasnt really planning on going to a (four-year) college. I was planning on going to a community college. But they got me in, they showed me I can do well in school. They did their job here, I did my job back home, and here I am. You wont find a more inviting receiving target in the Iowa Conference than the 6-foot-6, sideburn-clad 250-pounder.

Thats good since Cornell will be breaking in a new quarterback this season.

Macey emerged with 37 catches in just eight games in 2008. He has 59 in his career.

If Coach Matt Dillon has anything to say about it, and he does, look for that career reception total to be matched this season.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Just want to said congrat's to WH on their victory last night over Valley.  The target gets bigger  ;D ;D
