I like #18 Breitbach for Coe. Did an nice job in the secondary. Deja Vu.

I liked the "Tinker Boys" on Offense...that is Coach Thurness' nickname for them.

I think Boyle has what it takes to  be an effective IIAC quarterback, and Hammes is solid.  Plenty of targets for Boyle to hit.

Great game Kohawks!

Who is the Coach Thurness that you refer to?  Back when I was teaching at UD, there was a Thurness (Bob I think was his first name) on the Spartan coaching staff ... and he left UD for a job at Coe.  Could it be the same guy?

Bob Thurness is a former Coach (AD too I think) at Coe, who now does the Color on their radio broadcast.

Thanks.

I remember him as a former Marine (with a Marine haircut which was something else on campus in the late 60's - early 70's) ... a plug in his mouth ... and a fairly rough demeanor.  Enough said.

I would say that Coe's win is the most impressive.  Congrats Kohawks on defending the IIAC great job.  The most shocking is Wartburg.  The offense seems to be ok but with a three year starter at QB they should bo ok.  I know they are replacing a lot on the field but the D has to shore itself up.  Looking at maybe 0-2 start can't be a good thing.  (WH has Wartburg ever started 0-2 in recent years?)

Now the thoughts on the Cornell Game.  I thought Cornell did a great job at battling and not giving up.  The came out in the second half and took it to the Pioneers.  The freshman QB did a nice job for his first game.  Thought the coaching staff needs to work on getting the offensive plays in , I know the players are young but that has nothing to do with the coaches not getting the plays called quicker.  I would say the Rams get a solid B+ for the effort.  Having said that Grinnell is not a typical IIAC team.  I see that the Rams have improved and if they continue to improve they will win an IIAC game.  I think the coaches need to improve as well.  The TD pass to Heys JR was open almost all day long and yet they only ran the play once.  Thought the staff should have thrown to the middle of the field sooner as the Pioneers played most of the day without a safety.  The youing QB may hurt them when they get into the IIAC but for now if he can improve and the biggest thing is that the Rams stay healthy they can win some games in the IIAC.  Time will tell.  It was good the see Purple Heys, Senora Heys, meet Senorita Heys, Heys inlaws and CaliRam.  All very good people.

I'm disappointed in the Norse, just thought they would be better than a 30-13 loss to a mid-MIAC team.

We'll see. MIAC contenders will probably generate more of a push up front against the St. Olaf defense and MIAC contenders will catch passes thrown at their hands and all sorts of things Luther didn't do yesterday.

Clark broke off a lot of nice runs but had a couple called back for holding, one for his own face mask personal foul and added an unsportsmanlike on top of it.

Yes, He was the coach and A/D when I got to campus. He does the color commentary for the Kohawks on 1360 AM. Jerry Kiwala a former Simpson quaterback does the play by play, rumor has it they use to sell ad space on the bottom of his shoes.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Central into TOP 25, Wart out

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20090907/SPORTS/90907003

The Central football team has moved into the Division III national rankings at No. 25.

The Dutch opened their season with a 40-17 win Saturday at Lakeland College.

Central will play No. 7 Wisconsin-Stevens Point in it's home opener on Saturday.

Wartburg, which was ranked 17th in the preseason poll, dropped out of the top 25 following a 42-35 setback Saturday at St. Norbert.

I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Are the seven Luther students with H1N1 athletes?  I assumed since it is early in the year, there may have only been football, volleyball, cross country and womens tennis athletes on campus when they had the out break.

Will H1N1 affect season standings?

Last season Hope and Alma had to postpone a game due to a norovirus outbreak at Hope.  They were able to make-up the game at the time of the first round of playoffs, since neither team made the postseason.

If a contender has to cancel a game, I don't see how they'd make it up.  It would certainly be a shame if a team missed the playoffs by a half-game due to N1H1! :(

Interesting, Pat.  I didn't know you were in the stands at Northfield for the game.
