IS MILES HOOKSTEAD THE BEST FRESHMAN IN DIVISION III?

The Miles Hookstead hype train is chugging along here, too:

http://www.wissports.net/PLAYGROUND/tm.aspx?m=1061531&mpage=1&print=true

What's that I hear? That all-too-familiar ring.

OxyBob
"Hookstead" for  "Heisman" has quite a ring to it.  Or am I tone deaf?

He is on pace for a twenty catch - 300 yard season, which should put him in the top 700 or so in D-3.

Pat Coleman

Well, I will say that he didn't post from a college student-type location. Could be a parent, could be a younger brother, could be a high school teammate. Very likely not the kid himself.

Fierce When Roused

Mr. Ypsi

I see that #6 Ole Miss has 22 football players with suspected swine flu, including their star rb and starting qb.  Fortunately for them, they are idle this Saturday.

Any word from Luther as to whether the outbreak has impacted the football team?

I experienced some nausea while watching them play St. Olaf. Aside from that, no impact on the football team that I am aware of.

UW-P'ville vs. Dubuque took on a whole new dimension with Hookstead Hype.

(BTW - last year's DBQ TE went 5 catches for 69 yards and a score vs. the Regents.  Mr. Burken was no slouch)

Last year I got caught up on the DBQ bandwagon after watching an enthusiastic Spartan bunch overwhelm Rockford with swarming defense, excellent special team play and a diverse offensive attack.  Things were rockin' and rollin' in Chipotle Stadium with an overflow crowd and a big game atmosphere.

The following week at Redlands, the UD team I saw bore no resemblance to the week previous.  Maybe it was the trip out West, maybe it was the opponent...but an early tight game soon turned into a rout as Redlands flat out punished the Spartans.  I was stunned, I was disappointed.

UD went on to win 1 other game (over my 0-10 Rams).

I think this is the week to take the read on the Spartans to see what the rest of us have on our hands for the regular season.

Important safety note:
D3 Football ranks Rockford 234 out of 238; UW-P'ville is 65 out of 238...or about 100 places higher than UD.  BV was put in at #66 and lost at Platteville 15-10...seems like they were that close to me.
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

I'm looking forward to that game as well. The current plan is to take in that game after the Norse dismantle the Lutherans from the East. I agree, this game vs. the pass happy Pioneers will tell us a lot about the current Spartans.

An interesting aspect to this match up is that Coach Z has 16 years of experience playing the Pioneers.  I will probably still be picking UW-P in my pick ems because UD is very young and it will take time before they will be able to challenge a WIAC team, even a perennial bottom feeder like Platteville, but a good showing is not out of the question, IMHO.  His familiarity with this particular opponent will pay dividends.

It might not be mom or dad...it could be the girlfriend

Hookstead is from Whitewater, Wisconsin, and attended Whitewater High School. dubuque4life's email handle is "bigrocketsbbfan." Whitewater HS teams are called the Rockets.

Not real tough to figure it out.

OxyBob

Perhaps.....but Whitewater High School teams are Whippets....not Rockets.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Retired Old Rat

Will they be chanting "Who let the dog out?" at UD?  ;D

Whippets.  That's the same name as the Lake Wobegon town baseball team. :P

Power up the deflector shields! We're being invaded by Wisconcinites!

I'm also looking forward to the Central vs. Dubuque Stagg Bowl.

Not true, though. I know where the poster is coming from and it's not from Whitewater HS, see.

Team of the week.

DL Frank Weymiller, Fr., Coe
Weymiller recorded 12 tackles in his first collegiate game, five solo. He also had two quarterback hurries in a 9-7 win against Augustana

Way to go Frank!

Best freshmen in the IIAC in week 1!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I can think of at least one IIAC freshman who is better than Bumstead, I mean Hookstead.
