Hookstead is from Whitewater, Wisconsin, and attended Whitewater High School. dubuque4life's email handle is "bigrocketsbbfan." Whitewater HS teams are called the Rockets.
Perhaps.....but Whitewater High School teams are Whippets....not Rockets.

Ack! Apparently my reading comprehension skills have diminished to the point where I cannot discern between the Whitewater High Whippets and the South Milwaukee High Rockets.

I have therefore concluded that Miles Hookstead is indeed the best freshman the IIAC.

I appreciate the great response. There are things inside what you said that is part of what I'm saying. For example: "Right now I think Central is getting ranked based on their tradition of fielding excellent teams." Being ranked for this particular reason can be looked upon in two ways. My way, yes that should be considered and your way, no that shouldn't be considered.

What's going to happen when they win Saturday and your opinion doesn't come into play? "I will then expect to see them rise significantly in the rankings and I will then think they deserve it." i.e. ranked #24

I do understand coming under a tradition of fielding great teams and last year was considered disappointing. Also my comments aren't just limited to Central, but what happens to all teams in the league.
I think tradition is worthy of consideration in rankings, I just think maybe it needs to be tempered based on last year's performance.  It really doesn't matter what I think though, the only thing that is going to matter at the end of the week is how the game goes on Saturday.  The good news is that this one will be webcast and you can actually watch it instead of just listening.  And if we win, I won't think #24 is high enough of a ranking.   ;)

I don't think tradition means anything in a ranking. It doesn't matter if you won 10 straight national championships 25 years ago, it all matters what you did last week.

Oh man...we just uncovered a massive two-sport DIII star....Miles Hookstead might play basketball (one of the top 50 players in DIII hoops) too according to "Mr. H" from the Wissports.net board and the kid can actually dunk!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjRRJZmxKw4  Watch out!  There is a kid that can dunk in DIII!!!!!

Everybody...GET OFF THE TRACKS WHEN THIS KID COMES THROUGH THE LANE/ENDZONE!!!!!!

dude...I played two sports in college, AND can dunk.  Does that make me as good as Miles Hookstead?  The thought sends shivers down my spine.

heres the real story....

In 2008, 19 receptions for 249 yards and 0 tds.  Team was 3-6.

In 2007, 10 receptions for 197 yards and 2 tds.  Team was 4-5.

Now I could say I'm familiar with the Whitewater area and the high school football that surrounds it.  In Wisconsin we have divisions rather than classes in football. Whitewater is d2 and if thats all he could hack then, I'm far from impressed.

In basketball he was a 3x all-conference selection.  Not too shabby, but again I'm not overly impressed factoring in conference and opponents.

P.S.  Ive never laughed so hard watching a sick dunk like that.  I actually had my hopes up.
Terrell Owens was asked for one word to describe himself. He said "confident." When asked for another word he said "very."

I am sooo ready to see Central beat a top ten team.  And as long as I'm looking for miracles, a clearer webcast picture than I got last year would be nice.  I'm one of those guys who, the more he gets, the more he wants.

And on another subject, has anyone ever tried the beer from the Stevens Point Brewery?  I haven't seen it in a long time.  Lately, the cheapest beer in my neighborhood beer depot has been the stuff from LaCrosse.  It is mediocre but the price is right and the cans and the thirty pack case have a pretty picture on them.

I'll have a Point Special from time to time. They just come out with a new seasonal, Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale. I've been looking, but haven't come across it yet.

Speaking of IIAC two-sport stars, does anyone remember former Simpson TE and basketball star Jesse Harris?  Apparently he's been named Gov. Culver's deputy campaign manager for the Big Lug's re-elect bid.  Link:  http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20090909/NEWS09/909090352/1007/NEWS05

Looks like he's on pace for those numbers. Hey I get it he's the only Freshman playing this year  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't know if Miles Hookstead is the best freshman in the IIAC or not.  I don't even know if he is the best freshman player at Dubuque.   What I do know is that he's a good player who, barring the unforeseen, will develop into a very good receiver now that he has decent coaching, something that he seriously lacked in high school.

He's not a bad basketball player either and he is capable of playing at the DIII level.  But I suspect his best college level sport will be football.

Speed, I'm just curious.  How do you determine that high school D2 basketball  "is all that he could hack" when the only reason he played in D2 is because his school's enrollment placed them there.  Have you ever seen him play?

It's too bad he has someone promoting him on the boards to that extent. The kid may not even know it. I'll wager it's Dad.

Hey, where's Klopenheimer? He hasn't been around lately.

After watching this allegedly "sick" dunk, I'm reminded of a movie. See if you all can guees what it is.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
