Go Dutch Great Win!!!!! Knew you could do it!!!! Lets run the table in the IIAC!!!
One game schedule..Dubuque up next!!!!

I don't think UD has a chance next Saturday ... but "run the table" and "one game schedule" sounds pretty contradictory to me.

Dbq1965 I don't think anything is a certain or guaranteed thing.  The last two times we came to UD were 2 very tough games for the Dutch to win.  It took two big comebacks for the Dutch to get wins.  I don't think there will be a whole lot difference this year.

Sounds like you had a real barnburner there.

Congrats to the Dutch.
Two words:  THE STREAK

Charlie Kohawk

Just got home from Minnesota and I'm still reeling. What a game! Hat's off to Gustavus for battling back from 17 points down -- twice! -- late in the game. It would have been easy for them to quit down 20-3, but they didn't.

Likewise, the Kohawks showed a lot of moxie holding on for a victory that nearly slipped through their fingers. The offense has been a pleasant surprise. The running game has yet to get on track, but Boyle is proving to be a real gamer at QB.

I'm really looking forward to watching the season unfold. This team seems to have the perfect mix of skill, luck and leadership -- all of which are important ingredients to success.

Anything that could go wrong for the Duhawks did today!   Two times Loras was inside the opponent five yard line, each time Millikin comes away with seven!!!  Hopefully they can come out ready for Simpson next week.  I was impressed with Millikin's QB, though.  He was the starting QB for E. Illinois last year, but he transferred after E. Illinois signed ex-hawk Jake Christensen.

FINAL

I'll give my opinion of the game. Great game for the fans, UD was down 28-7 and climbed back in it and was on about their 40 when an interception ended their comeback hopes.

The positives I saw:

* Michael Zweifel is incredibly talented. I have only seen him play once but he does things that make you say wow.  And most importantly, he has a lot of heart.
* I am not ready to say Miles Hookstead is the most talented IIAC freshman but he is a very good big bodied TE with soft hands and he is certainly talented and has a bright future.
* Normally, after a UD loss I am so upset, I don't like to talk to anyone for a while. While I am still upset tonight that we lost BUT I saw something I haven't seen very often as a UD fan over the years. Being down by 21 points, most UD teams would have cashed it in. They didn't. They came back. You could FEEL the momentum change. They bent at times but didn't break and made a game of it until the end.
* I honestly feel we were very well matched with UWP talent wise. A key dropped pass that could have been broken open and take away an interception in the end zone and who knows? UWP has some very talented players for sure. The QB, RB, and one WR in particular played great games. In the trenches, they were very solid. I think they are a better UWP team then in years past and will make a move slightly up the WIAC ladder.

The weaknesses:
* It's one game. Our biggest weakness is we are very young and not as deep yet as we will be in the years ahead. As the season progresses and these guys gain experience and confidence, great things will happen.

Central will be a great test next weekend. Playing one of the best teams in the nation is a great challenge. I don't expect the Spartans to roll over and play dead for the Dutch.

Congrats to this weeks winners!

Looking the stats over and I would say that this game today reminds me a lot of the 2005 game with the Vikings from Augustana.  The Dutch got beat on that stats except for the one that counted, the one on the scoreboard.  The Dutch found a way to get the W.  To me that is a sign of a good team.

During that 2005 season, we were outgained during most of the games and still found a way to win. I think the Jeff McMartin era at Central can be summed up by a offseason shirt from the Coach Kac era "Find a Way". Central doesn't always win pretty, but they get the job done.

Purple Heys

Last year 0-2 after 2 home games

This year we're 1-1 after 2 road games (and we were 2 yards and a PAT from being 2-0)

Last year I felt that things may be getting worse.

This year I believe things are getting better.

And we led that team 14-13 with 3 minutes or so left in the 3rd quarter before we escorted them to 25 straight points in what became a major confidence blow.

This year's Carleton team won't be 7-3...more like 3-7 or 4-6...unless I am totally overestimating the MIAC.

But in the end D3 Football ranked them #64 of 238 and Grinnell #188 and us at an ignominious #215.

Winning at Grinnell and having taken Carleton to the brink of defeat at Carleton makes me feel safe in saying we ain't no #215.  The mistakes we made today are frustrating for a 2nd game performance, but correctable.

I think we come into the IIAC schedule with some confidence.  Maybe losing this one burns a bit more and makes us hungrier.

Always hard to take a loss.  But as WillieU stated earlier, past UD teams would have called it a game when down 28-7 in the 2nd half.  This team fought back and had a chance to tie the game late.  Also impressive was the crowd of over 4,000...Spartan Nation showing up at Chalmers...great to see.  I have tons of friends planning on being in Dubuque for homecoming this year.  Even some that haven't been back since graduating and others coming from the east coast.  The alumni are getting fired up.

Some good wins for the IIAC today.  The Loras score was a bit surprising...I definately cannot feel sorry for the Duhawks though ;D

Just pulled the wartmobile into the garage after a trip to watch my Knights get the train back on track.  The Knight D looked OK tonight considering they played on a very short field for one touchdown when Augsburg collected a fumble inside the Wartburg 10 yard line.  There was some hard hitting.  I'm not sure the passing game is in sync yet.  It seemed the Knights had lots of familiar players walking on crutches.  Hopefully they'll be healthy for the meat of the conference schedule.

Plenty of interesting stats comparing Cornell-Grinnell-St. Norbert-Wartburg.  Sounds like some of you think the Rams should be favored.  Lets see:  Cornell is 7 better than Grinnell, St. Norbert is 3 better than Grinnel, that makes Cornell 4 better than St. Norbert, St. Norbert is 7 better than Wartburg, that make Cornell an 11 point favorite over Wartburg next Saturday.  Give me a call if you are taking the Rams and giving 11 1/2 points.

Nice article in tonight's program about Walston-Hoover's little brother.  Now that the game is over, I no longer consider him the enemy.  I hope he and Augsburg have a great season the rest of the way.

How would you say the two Defenses were that the Wartburg O has played?  With a three year starter at QB back the O should be ahead of the D with the losses to graduation that the D suffered.  With the two teams you have played are their D's a strong point for them?  I don't know just curious to your thoughts.  It seems like even when IIAC teams play non con games the offenses put up some good numbers at times but when the conference schedule comes around the D's step it up.  Is this a concern for the Knights at all?
