I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Things that make you go Hmmmmmm.

Coocoo you and I think alike on that.  I thought that exactly.
That makes me worried, as it sounds to me like a St. Norberts team coming off a win that was not expected by rankings, etc.  So they were so high on the win, that they didn't focus on the seemingly easy team ahead.  And it nearly beat them.  Don't fall into that pattern, Dutch.  It was a fantastic win, hope you enjoyed the emotional high last night, today it is time to think about Dubuque and the fact that it took triple OT towin last time we were in Dubuque.

The Knights will have better performances than last night, but a W is a W. The D is still a work in progress, but did look good at times. I agree with warthog, the passing game seemed a little bit out of sync, but it will get there. I guess we shouldn't be too upset at this pt with the Warts avg of 35 a game. I thought the Knights could have delivered a knock out blow in the first half, but didn't & allowed Auggie some momentum with a late score b4 half.

Well said Klompen, UD the last two trips to Dubuque have played us very close and we were lucky to get a win there the last time we went there.  The one thing I have come to learn though the Central staff won't let them look past a team and they will focus on UD now.

Well that's not good >:(

I'd be ok if Central football spent the next week munching on Dutch Letters during the day and stayed out late drinking every night.  Maybe I can send an email out to the Dutch coaches with a request for that.  Who knows, it might work.

I think this weekend will be a good game.  I think Dubuque is just too young to beat what seems like a pretty good Dutch team.  That said, I am impressed with the fight UD showed last night with their comeback.  And the fact the Spartans are playing disciplined football.  Only 1 penalty last night for Dubuque.  I'm starting to feel optimistic for about a .500 season from my team.  With more good seasons in the near future.

With the impressive win Saturday...how high does Central deserve to climb in the rankings? Opinions?

I would put them just out of the top 10...12ish...unless UWSP was very overrated - which I dont believe.

(I know rankings dont matter, but we arent coaches or players so why not throw it out there) :)

Congratulations to all who won yesterday, and to Central and Coe for a great non-conference season.
But as they say in NASCAR, "When the green flag drops, the BS stops."

Next Saturday the green flag drops.

As far as last nights Wartburg game, the defense is better but a long way from where they need to be.
As far as the offense goes, the runing game looks very promising. As far as the passing game being out of sync, it's true we have an experienced QB, but are working in two new receivers. A few growing pains might be expected. With almost 500yds a game I'm not quite so concerned.

Made my first trip to Chalmers field since it was under construction two years ago. It is a thing of beauty, and everything that its been made out to be. With a beautiful evening, and the battle of the bridge, it was just a great college football atmosphere. Listening to the fans and even the campus security talk as we walked to the stadium, the excitement and optimism is everywhere. All that plus great concessions and free popcorn in the third quarter for 5 bucks a head.
I have to admit, I must be like the Spartans of old, I left at the end of the third quarter with UD trailing 28-7. They had only had the ball for 15 minutes, and had just picked up their 5th first down. Platteville which didn't return any running backs with a single collegient carry, and is the poster child for the pass happy spread offense, ran the ball 61 times against the Spartans. It will take time for the Spartans, but the commitment and effort is there. Burton is a beast on defense and Zwiefel is going to put up huge numbers.

The win does not matter other than the practice season is over and the Dutch had a good warm up to the conference season.  Take care of business in the IIAC and we will get to the playoffs.  This win will help if the Dutch stumble in the conference schedule with an at large bid.  I remember the 05 season with the OT win over a highly ranked Augustana team.  Wondering if Central would jump them in the polls.  The concesus at that time was that Central pulled off an upset and that Central shouldn't have won the game so they were not rewarded for that win or as highly as they in my opinon should have been.  This could be the same thing.  The polls are only opinions and educated guesses.  As stated here and on other threads at least we get to decide #1 on the field we don't need a poll to pick # 1 and #2 to play a game to decide #1.  The games on the field will help sort out everything else.  The win does help this young group of men know that if they believe in each other that they can win any game they play.  This could be signs of very good things to come.

I can't believe I went to the trouble to prove a beat down!

Old Dutch / Sir,

I didn't mean for my post to be a beat down. I was weak in the times of reading some of the post and being antagonized with old pictures from people like doolittledog. I will try to keep myself under control when you include years like 1892 in your post. (State of Arizona was founded in 1912) and will ignore the fact that your user name includes the word Old. I will stay strong.
Please keep in mind that I did make Purple Heys older and that I did start the post with 'Sir'. A sign of respect to people, how should I say, that have been around a little longer. I promise to keep strong and under control in the future.

To the contrary, your post wasn't the beat down I referred to, it was the Willy Penn lose I antagonized over.   And the old in Old Dutch is a rather relative thing, besides having entered the second half of my century I also feel a bit "old school" in opinions and have a liking for the thirst inducing salty snack of the same name.

A late congrats to the Beavers on the win yesterday against Peru State.  I was a bit concerned about this game due to the size that Peru State had and they had just come off of a big win against Jamestown a week ago.

Looks like good things might be brewing in Storm Lake again this year, time will only tell.  Next weekend is the start of conference play, and anything can happen, we all know that from last year.

Congrats to the Dutch on the big win yesterday, and to Coe as well.  I like seeing IIAC teams beat the MIAC and WIAC any day of the week.  That can only help us for two bids come play off time.

Rankings are out, Central 16, UWSP 17.  Sounds a bout right.  I was thinking 10-15 but you never know who else is going to have  a big win (Linfield!)  Nice to see Wartburg getting votes again, IIAC went 10-8 in the non-con season against some pretty good competition

Your are correct Klop, we need more respect for the IIAC and I think it was accomplished. Congrats to all the IIAC, now on to the real business.  Go Dutch
