I'm sure the Coe fans think the last play of the Coe-Loras game last year was a miracle gift from the referees.

The Coe-Simpson game in 2003 comes to mind.  Wouldn't necessarily call it a miracle but maybe a little amazing....  A scrambling Mike Donnenwerth finds Dusty Kain in the back of an endzone with :30 seconds remaining in the game for the winning TD.

One that should come to mind to you doolittle.  The 3 OT game in Dubuque with a kick that was tipped and found its way over the goal line.

I'd like to say I've wiped that game from my memory, but I can't.  Great college football game though.  Momentum changed sides multiple times during the game.  3OT's is hard to top.  Winning the game when a deflected FG attempt still finds a way through the uprights is hard to beat.  When the UD announcer said the FG was blocked I started jumping up and down in my living room.  It was another minute or so before I figured out that Central had actually won the game on the FG try.  Ugh about sums up that game for me.

Won't be there for this weekends game.  We will be having my sons b-day party that day.  Will be in Mt. Vernon the next week for the UD/Cornell game though.

Possibility of going to the Wartburg-Cornell game on Saturday. Heys, if you send me some Carne Asada, I'll try to see that at least 1/3 of it gets to .jr. ;D

Best (maybe a miracle) game I've been a part of was just 2 weekends ago against Valley in a soph game. We were down 21-0 before I even had a chance to blink due to turnovers. Decided to stick with the gameplan and with 2 mins to go found ourselves down 24-14. Drove about 60 yards thanks in part to a couple big runs and with 1:11 to go, scored a TD. Missed XP. Going for the onside. 3 different players of mine had their hands on the ball, before a 4th recovered it. Because of that, we gained a lot of field position and had the ball at the +38 with just under a minute to play. 4th and 5 from the 34 and a reserve WR makes a diving catch at the 6. Ran power 4 consecutive plays, scoring the go ahead TD with :11 to play and 13,000 people in Drake Stadium watching, and keeping our 23 game soph win streak in tact. Great way to get the Varsity game started.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

2007 UD trailed Coe by 7 with about a minute left in the game.  UD blocked a Coe punt and recovered the ball on the 4 yard line.  First 3 plays went nowhere.  On 4th and goal Jermar Jackson lobbed a ball to 6'5 Brennan Relaford for the game tying TD.  In OT Jermar Jackson rushed for a TD and then on Coe's first play UD picks off the pass to win the game.

Blocking a punt with a minute left in the game and then sending the game into OT with a 4th down conversion for a TD, then to intercept a pass to seal the win is a pretty good ending to a game.  Especially if it's the other schools homecoming game  ;)

2005, last game of the year.  UD had lost 12 straight conference games.  UD is leading Loras 20-12 with about 30 seconds left and is punting.  Loras blocks the punt and falls on the ball in the endzone for a TD to get the score to 20-18 and lines up for a 2 point conversion.  The UD announcer is saying this game is a microcosm of UD over the last few years...snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.  The miracle is that UD deflects the Loras passing attempt, and then is also able to recover the on-side kick attempt from Loras to seal the victory.  Only conference win of the year, first win over Loras since 1985.  That was the 1st webcast of UD that I listened to and got me interested in listening to more UD games in the future.  Now I even make it out to a few games a year.  With listening to that webcast having a lot to do with it.

Central down 20 with about 12mins to go in 4th quarter against Coe in 2004. The Dutch score 21 unanswered points and win 21-20...not really a miracle but a great game none the less.

I listened to that game on the internet.  I was living in California at the time.  That was probably the best Coe team of all time.  Tough enough to listen to it on the internet, glad I wasn't there in person.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Speaking of prayers, tipped passes for a winning touchdown and the like.  Anyone have stories of any IIAC games that ended with a miracle play?

Central and their "miracle in the mud" game at Linfield comes to mind.  Any others???
Well, they weren't actually IIAC games, but I can think of a couple of good ones.  The first goes back to my infancy  ;) when Central beat Ferris State in 1974.  Central went ahead with something like 3 minutes left in the game, only to have Ferris State come back and score a TD to get the lead back with less than a minute left in the game.  Central got the ball at the 20 yard line after the kick-off and with 8 seconds left on the clock threw up a hail Mary 80 yard TD pass to win the game.  Rumor has it that the Central receiver and the Ferris State defender on that pass ended up as free agents for the same pro team the following year.  BTW - QB name was Cutler.   ;)

Then there were the 1988 playoff games that Central played essentially without a QB.  The first 2 QB's were both seriously injured at the end of regular season and we went into the playoffs with a freshman QB who had never taken a varsity snap.  He threw more interceptions in the first playoff game than completions and we won 7-0 on a second half KO return for a TD.  The next game at Whitewater a transfer player that was playing WR stepped in at QB mid-game and ended up taking us all the way to the Stagg Bowl.  His moment in the sun must have gone to his head as the next year he was no longer in school and rumor had it that attending class was not high on his priority list.

Ok Bears fans - was it Cutler or the receivers who stunk worse than a confinement building on a hot August day?  I hate losin' to the Pack!

Can't really put the blame it on either.  Cutler just looked nervous for the whole first half, definitely looked more relaxed in the second half (even after the 4th INT).  Lot's of young (inexperienced) WR's not running complete routes.  Seems like both QB and WR's and not on the same page.

However, the most disappointing thing to see was the bailout on the run game.  Seemed as if the Bears O-Coordinator just gave up on Forte too quick.  He's kind of like AP.  Definitely not as good as Peterson is/will be, but he will get a 3 yarder, 4 yarder and then bust it for 20.  You just have to keep giving him the ball.  Only difference for Peterson is he will bust out a 65 yarder while throwing defenders to the ground.

With Urlacher out it will make for a long season, but hopefully the rest of the D decides to step up while as the offense starts to click together.
