Let me say that Chalmers Field is great, WOW what a nice venue.  It is really a great place to watch a game.  IMHO they now have the nicest facilities in the IIAC.  UD played about how I thought the game would be, a shoot out.  Neither team could stop each other very much.  Again I am reminded of the 2005 Dutch team that continually got out gained but found a way to put more points on the board than their opponents.  It happened again today.  The Dutch got out gained by over a hundred yards but got more points on the board.  Way to go Dutch.  Zwiefel is the real deal.  He is one gifted player.  He kept that team in the game.  Then the running back for UD did a good job as well.  David Zachery deserves a huge shout out as he ran like a horse breaking tackles on two long rund for TDs. Bandow deserves some kudos on his only series right before half to take the Dutch down field and getting a score and the lead before half.  The Dutch are finding a way and I like it that it comes in a team effort.

I was impressed with Colton Hanson as he has put on some weight gotten bigger and developed into a good QB.  I hope he didn't get hurt to bad.  He did come back in but was limping around at the end of the game.

Big no Huge game in Pella this weekend.  Congrats to Coe on the W and the 3-0 start.

It was nice to see a running game and aggressive, ball hawking defense from Loras today.  I didn't think they were as bad as the score would indicate last week, but they're probably not as good as the score would indicate this week.  We'll learn a lot more next week as the Knights come in for Homecoming.

Congrats to the Dutch and the Warts today.

It's a full football day here on the left coast, with Duck and Beaver games on TV and the Wildcats on the radio and computer.

I love football season!

I celebrate a victory when I start walking off the field. By the time I get to the locker room, I'm done.

Even the most optimistic among Kohawk Nation (guilty as charged) could not have reasonably expected Coe to be 3-0 at this point. The coaching staff and captains are to be commended. The O and D lines -- the biggest question marks coming in -- get better each week. And Brad Boyle is emerging as quite a field general. I'm not about to talk any smack with a date in Pella next on the schedule, but Coe football is back on the radar. Today's game was barely over and I was already wishing it was next Saturday. I can't wait. Keep up the hard work Kohawks!

Whats the story from the Loras/Simpson game.  This surprised me quite a bit to see the score.  I was really thinking that Simpson had a shot to be a contender this year.  Early season losses do not help that case.  Next week the Beavers head down to Indianola, which has not been a friendly place for them of recent.  It will be interesting to see how the outcome of that game goes.

Congrats to all the winners yesterday, and I hope that no one suffered from any major injuries.

Voice of the Dutch

DutchFan2004 pretty much beat me to the punch on everything I was going to post this morning.

Chalmers Field = outstanding venue to watch a game

Colton Hanson threw the ball very well today and really impressed me.  And his balls that were barely off the mark were snagged effortlessly by Michael Zweifel.  That kid is an absolute stud.  Also, Justin Spaulding put on some classic "shake 'n bake" moves and picked up a lot of extra yardage with nice cuts and spin moves.  That's a scary offense at UD.

All that said - what an outstanding effort for Central to put on back-to-back goal line stands when UD got down to the one inch line.  I mentioned the 2005 comparison a week ago, and that the UWSP game reminded me a lot of Augustana in that we won it with a big offensive play on the goal line.  This one reminded me a lot of Bethel the next week, where the opponent marched up and down the field all day long, but we came up with a goal line stand late to win the game.  Interestingly, after those games with Augustana and Bethel in '05, guess who came marching in to Pella the following week?  That's right - COE.  Let's hope that's the one thing that doesn't get repeated from the '05 formula.

Here's my one question from yesterday's game - and don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.  Dubuque ran 8 plays inside the Dutch 5 yard line in the fourth quarter, and exactly ZERO of them were directed at Michael Zweifel.  He is their best player, yet he didn't get a single chance to try to win the game for them.  That would miff me quite a bit if I was a Spartan fan this morning.

Congrats to the Dutch on a great win - let's get it done next week at homecoming.

Airborne Dutch

DutchRadio, excellent call on the parallel to the 2005 season. In my somewhat (and I'm sure DutchHawk will agree with me) biased opinion, I think that season really wrote a new chapter in Central history. Lets just hope this current team can have the same type of 3 year run that the core of that team did. Also, what about the performance of David Zachary. 18 carries for 161 yards and 4 TDs? If I'm correct, that should put him in the Central record books for rushing TDs in a game. Quite an afternoon.

Airborne:  Mark Kac scored 5 vs DBQ in 1995.  Thats still putting DZ in pretty good company though.  Its been good watching him to develop over 4 years and to be getting the majority of snaps, I think the experiences will make him stronger all year.  My guess at the beginning of the year is Lackey's size would put him at least in a shared TB role, but David's stepped up and is making a difference with performances like this one.  The Rhinos are obviously improved and getting the job done for the rushers too, thats perhaps the best news out of Pella!

Cornell played a good game yesterday. I think they got tired in the second half. I believe they will win more than one conference game this year. Heys .jr is the real stud. They may even break up the Central-Coe Stagg Bowl.

I think Lackey is a good runner and he can pound the rock.  He has the size like Vance Schuring and the kid falls forward after contact.  DZ just is flat out fast.  Once he gets day light he does not get caught from behind.  That to me is the difference in the two runners.  David just does not have enough meat on the bones to pound it like Vance and Lackey do.  But David has a lot more speed than those two have.  David has gotten bigger and he runs with determination.  I am very impressed with him.  He has become a huge weapon.  I am very happy for him.  The one thing that the Dutch have that they have not had is huge lineman on both sides of the ball.  The Hill brothers give the Dline kind of a Williams boys from the Vikings flavor.  With those two boys in there I don't see many teams running up the middle on the Dutch.  The Oline has been getting bigger over the years.  If the Dutch are going to be on top of the IIAC it will start with the O line.

Hey DF2K4 - How did that freshman TE for UD look???

I suspect he will turn out pretty good.  Despite some over zealous fans for him ;D ;D ;D

He was OK.  I am not saying he isn't a good player, but I did not see anything outstanding.  He caught some passes but I think you expect starting players to do that.  Him being a freshman shouldn't matter.  If he is on the field he better perform.  I don't know how dominating a TE will be in the IIAC if you get my drift.  He is a good player but best freshman in the IIAC I am not ready to go there.  I think if he keeps working he can be a really nice player.  TE's don't really get the glory and really are not in a position to garner a lot of accolades.  This kid could be grow into that special player maybe.  Time will tell.  I think with Zwiefel on the field it will be hard to get a lot of balls thrown your way.  So it may be a year or two before he gets a lot of balls thrown his way.  That would give him the time he needs to mature.  Would I want him on my team YES, but would not say he is a factor in the IIAC yet.
