Looks like the Northern Sun is looking to add a couple teams....  Cornell??

UD seems a better fit

We can't farm off UD when they are finally in position to make the conference race interesting.

I'm happy with the IIAC the way it is, I don't want to really gain or lose anyone, its nice having 2 non conference games plus a bye week in the schedule. We have some nice rivalries and are beginning to get some parity, although Id like to see my Dutch pull away MUC style!

Actually Wartburg is going FBS. It won't make much difference since we've been giving "scholarships" all along. ;D

Most of the schools in the IIAC have a long history with the conference and therefore I don't think would want to leave.  To make a jump I think you would have to be in a major market and have the resources.  Big endowment plus high annual giving plus the prospect of major local business tie-ins for money.

Coe???  Not a long time member of the IIAC.  Going D2 could bring in more local media coverage.  Has a decent sized endowment and is among the leaders in yearly fund raising among the IIAC schools.  Cedar Rapids is large enough they might be able to tie in some local business support.  I don't see it happening, but I would think would Coe would make the most sense among IIAC schools.

I don't think Loras has the money to make it work.  I don't think UD has the desire to make the move...I would hope not anyway.  I just can't see it working out for any other school and then all the travel that would go into it.  Not unless the IIAC made the jump as a conference.  But I really don't think that would be wise.

In a nutshell...I just thought it mildly amusing that someone on the D2 board would bring up Cornell as an option to make the move.

With this excellent reasoning, Grandview would meet the big market + business ties. Goinf to D2 from NAIA makes more sense to me than going to D3.

Looks like a couple more IIAC schools have gotten on the personalized license plate bangwagon:  http://www.iamvd.com/ovs/plates/private.htm

I think I spotted a Loras plate last week, but they look more black than purple.

Not even if hell freezes over! Never going to happen. No chance, zilch. Nada. Boy I hate when people stir the pot with speculation that has no basis in reality.

Read on in my post, I meant that Coe would have been a better name to throw out on the D2 board than Cornell would have been.  I think D3 is the perfect place for small private christian colleges like we have in the IIAC.  I like our little world just the way it is.

Not stirring the pot man, just completely hypothetical talk if you read the previous couple pages...no need to get all defensive! :)

As previously stated earlier today, the obvious new D2 choice in Iowa is probably Grandview.  The Des Moines Register could blindly follow along and give great coverage because they would assume D2 is somehow vastly superior to D3.

Admittedly the exposure for D2 in Des Moines would be better than what it can have in Fayette.  Grandview doesn't appear to have any sort of traditional ties anywhere since they have for the most part been a commuter college.

The irony would be having two D2 schools in the state with one being in the most urban setting we can offer and the other being in the most desolate rural area we can offer.

A few years ago there was some rumblings about an additional NCAA division.  It would be sort of a D4 group that would not only not offer scholarships, but would put additional restrictions on schools.  It seemed at the time they were almost talking about simply what I would call club teams.  Has anyone heard more on that recently?  Maybe the WIAC would want to make that move.  Then they could for sure win everything.

I hope not...I like it where we are!!!

Plus, you know, road trips are easier in the IIAC  ;D

I second that.  No way in hell would I support a UD move out of the IIAC.

Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of interviewing the Iowa Conference commissioner during halftime of our Central / UW-SP broadcast and I asked him about that issue.  He said that it certainly remains challenging to balance the needs and wants of the 400-ish schools, but there hasn't been real strong dialog about a fourth division recently.

Oh man, we could have supplied you with all kinds of questions for him ;D

Will there be expansion of the IIAC in the future?  Or contraction?  Will games be televised?

What questions did you ask him and what were his replies???  Enquiring minds... ;D
