Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of interviewing the Iowa Conference commissioner during halftime of our Central / UW-SP broadcast and I asked him about that issue.  He said that it certainly remains challenging to balance the needs and wants of the 400-ish schools, but there hasn't been real strong dialog about a fourth division recently.

Oh man, we could have supplied you with all kinds of questions for him ;D

Will there be expansion of the IIAC in the future?  Or contraction?  Will games be televised?

What questions did you ask him and what were his replies???  Enquiring minds... ;D

Central vs Simpson 2005 was televised on Mediacom or some such channel.
30 IIAC Championships

Quite a bit of our talk surrounded the use of technology, with Facebook & Twitter now available as an information outlet to schools.

He talked about the fact that schools now have the ability to have their own "networks" with webcasting available at a very reasonable cost, and how they really want to see more of that technology used to promote IIAC athletics.

If anyone is interested, it's about 10 minutes.  Send me a PM and I'll email you an MP3 of it.

Thought for the day:

Would you go to the Roman army and ask them if they thought they were going to win the battle? If I didn't think we could win, I wouldn't be here.

College football transfers....How do coaches feel about them?

"The new rule (proposal 2005-54) states: A student-athlete who earns an undergraduate degree in four years but still has one year of eligibility remaining can transfer into another college's graduate school and finish his or her playing career there immediately without having to sit out a year."

I have a son graduating this year and he will have one more year of eligibility. His existing coach, (How would I describe?), is like talking to an opposite of Coach McMartin.

What keeps on entering my mind is a situation of a player/friend who was playing for the UofA. His dream was to play for Texas A&M (Texas native). He asked for permission to talk to Texas A&M. The very next day he was not allowed to work out in the weight room. He was told that the weight room was for team players.

What are your thoughts/experience with transfers?

[I have a busy work day and will not be able to check back till later. I would appreciate any input on this subject. I'm trying to put two days of work into one. I have to open the weekend for the football games! ;D]

Waterloo CF Courier preview of Wartbrug - Loras

Quoting Wartburg coach Rick Willis:
On Loras, "No question, that was a big win for them (over Simpson). Loras made a lot of big plays and kind of jumped all of them at home. It's always a tough challenge for us at Loras. Those games are always hard-fought games and we certainly expect that to be the case this Saturday."
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Big game tonight in WDsM of #1 vs #3. I haven't been this nervous for a game since Wartburg vs Monmouth last year.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships

Not this guy.  I'll be getting up at 5:00 tomorrow morning to get on a series of airplanes that will eventually take me State College, PA.

Me neither. I will be enjoying the ambiance of the Rock Bowl.

From what I know Central's staff has welcomed transfers with open arms.  I know three that made all conference.  There are some kids that try to walk on at Iowa and Iowa State find out that they won't or can't make the 2 deeps and transfer to play football.  I am sure that Central's door is always open for players.  Also I know that Simpson's QB is a transfer from Iowa State so I am sure that Simpson would take them.  I also think that Wartburg has a couple of Iowa transfers on the team.  The evil empire takes all kinds of transfers and even gets them roofing jobs.  (come on guys that was a joke) ;D ;D ;D ;D  We haven't ground that axe much in awhile.    ;D ;D ;D ;D
