I'm not sure if I'm reading Centrals schedule correctly, but do we have a by week?
and if we don't, why don't we?
Bye week at end of season.  Hopefully it will give us time to heal injuries before the playoffs.  Would hate to see these boys turn in their pads early.

Ok, back up the truck a bit Klomp.  There are 5 tough weeks left before we talk playoffs.  If I remember correctly 4 of the 5 teams left on the schedule beat us last year and the 5th was conference runner up.  Doesn't sound like we should holding the third weekend in November open just yet.

In response to DF2K4's question I'd say we all hoped the Dutch would be back this year, but I don't think anyone would have guessed it would go this well.  UWSP did a free fall from the rankings, Lakeland isn't much, 2 of the 3 conference opponents are typically bottom half teams.  Agreed DBQ looks much improved but still . . .  Lots of questions to be answered yet.

On the "bad" surprises, I'd say Simpson also, they had a ton of momentum from last year and a 4 yr starter at QB??  I just thought they'd be better, maybe they will be Saturday, it seems games at Buxton are always closer then we expect!

I remember when Linfield's field looked just like that.
We had playoff games at the local high school, Willamette, and in Portland.

Central had a few of those games too -- I still miss the real turf, but the fake stuff has its advantages!

Man, I cringe when I hear the words Central and Playoff in the same sentance this early in the season.... there is a lot of football to be played....Knowing Wartburg, they will have something to say about our playoff talk....

I know, I know, I sound like a broken record....

dutchfan1:  Please don't stop them from talking playoffs and the like.  The chopped liver teams that are left on the Central schedule might as well know they have no chance.  The last tough game the Dutch had to play was against Cornell. I think Central fans should start making reservations in Salem for the Stagg Bowl.

Having seen both Central and Wartburg this season...

Central has a better defense.   Central has a better running game.

Wartburg took some things away.  Central took everything away.

We were able to contain the Kanniget running game to a degree, we could stop Central's running at all.

Central appears better on both sides of the line compared to Wartburg.

I'd give a decided edge to Central if they played next weekend.

So is Simpson just underachieving or did we all (or at least most of us) highly over-rate them in the preseason?

Heys, glad to hear that Jr is going to be okay.  Like many others, I didn't realize that he had been injured, but I did wonder why he wasn't playing.  I knew that the subs on both teams were in, but Jr clearly is the stud of the team from what I saw.  He is a big target  with good hands, don't know why they don't take better advantage of that.

He should be fine, he reported today that he's moving on it pretty well, 100% better than yesterday.

I know they are trying to get him the ball...but the other teams don't seem to cooperate...either they're putting pressure on our QB, or they are doubling up or bracketing him so he's a big decoy.  :)

Cornell is very lucky to have a player of his talent and good for him to stick it out when any other coach in the conference would have offered him a roofing job.   :o

That's nice of you to say...but here's the reasons why he stuck it out when others may have vamoosed.  Sure he's worked hard but Cornell developed him and gave him the opportunity to work as hard as he has worked.  They obviously have the facilities and the resources that a kid can take advantage of if he chooses.  Don Bladt our senior safety and our other 3 seniors are very good ballplayers who have worked equally as hard (Brian King, Andy Siar, and Zach Zasada).   These guys also happen to be good friends and when you get down to it how do you turn your back on your friends?

It is said a lot:  Character counts.  These 5 young men are living that.  They are going to play what amounts to their last 5 football games and they are going to play them all out.  I can't say whether they'll win one or or all or none; but I do know I'm equally proud of all 5 and I think they're all studs.

I hope I highly overrated them at this point...I want to see the Rams win one

Hard to judge much with the conditions Saturday. They put the ball on the ground a lot, but only lost one I believe. They do have a couple real studs in the middle of their defense, but overall they missed a ton of tackles that killed them. They played better in the 2nd half, but never looked good. The Norse special teams gave them the ball at the Luther 13 and 17 yard line and screwed up an extra point. The offense turned it over on the Luther 30. Good teams don't let you do that and win by 10.

Judging from the last couple years, you'll be able to keep the Sierra on ice a lot longer this weekend.

The Rams have a natural turf field too...but it got the weekend off.  What's this week's weather outlook?

Not sure but the Norse are 1-0 in the mud. RAIN BABY!

Purple Heys

We just have to wipe the slate clean...we've already played the top 2 (for now anyway) teams in the conference.

Take this week as a fresh start.  No one can point fingers at this point because everyone has made mistakes on the Rams.  Kind of like one big giant do-over.

It's actually kind of funny...only 1 one win turns our entire season around.  When you think about it that way, it takes the pressure off.
