So is Simpson just underachieving or did we all (or at least most of us) highly over-rate them in the preseason?

Highly overrated.  I visited with someone close to the program shortly before the season started and he said it would be a tough season.  5-5 was the thought.  Just not as talented as last year.

First Simpson Joke Of The Week.
A Simpson ecology class is going on a field trip.  About five miles down the road, the bus hits a skunk.  There happens to be a blind guy in the class who says, "What a rotten trick!  Tell the blind guy you are taking him on a field trip and then you just drove around and brought me back to campus."

They lost most of their playmakers from last year on offense, they did have their O line back but lost their receivers and backs. On defense they lost some studs so they where going to be down. Outside of beating Northwestern badly it has been a struggle

I hope I highly overrated them at this point...I want to see the Rams win one

If it was at Cornell I think you would have one but at home they are better

This last post brings up a topic.  Why do you think teams play better at home.  I have seen a pattern since becoming a Dutch and IIAC fan.  Wartburg with the exception of 2005 has played well on the road and at home against Central.  Loras, UD, Luther, and Simpson have all played the Dutch much better at home than on the road.  Cornell with a home performance last year at home played very well.  I was just wondering what everyones thoughts are or were.

dutchfan1:  Please don't stop them from talking playoffs and the like.  The chopped liver teams that are left on the Central schedule might as well know they have no chance.  The last tough game the Dutch had to play was against Cornell. I think Central fans should start making reservations in Salem for the Stagg Bowl.

I know that this was addressed to my fellow Dutchfan but IMHO Wartburg was my preseason favorite and nothing has changed my mind yet.  Wartburg every year seems to stumble in the non con schedule and is always fighting for a top spot.  They are an undefeated defending conference champ with a three year starting QB that was touted as the preseason MVP candidate.  They are a very dangerous team and still in the drivers seat getting to play the Dutch at home.  It is way to early to make playoff plans or to get reservations any where except ones if you are going to Waverly to see that game.  There are to many games between then to even make big plans other than to cheer the Dutch on against the Knights.  With so many games left it is not even a guarantee that that game will determine the IIAC Champ.

I'm not falling for all of this Simpson poor mouthing.  I plan to go through my normal preparations for a Central Simpson game by firing off as many insults as I can think of between now and kick-butt, I mean kick-off.

What's been interesting for me this season is that the Central fans have been a little cocky, and Wartburg has taken on the "quiet confidence" we used to be known for. It's a disturbing trend, from a Dutch perspective....

It took a 44 yard FG with 1 minute left in regulation for Central to beat Dubuque by 3 in Pella last season.  So I'm not sure about playing so much better at home...Ask Coe about last season!!!  There is something to playing at home though that gives you an advantage.  You don't have to be playing in front of 70,000 to get that home field advantage.

HEADS UP for those going to Wartburg - BV game The area around Regent's park (across from Tennis courts) will be crowed before the game because of the Dan Huston Invitational, women's race at 10:45 a.m./men's  race at approx. 11:30 a.m. – Max Championship Cross Country Course. The races start west of practice football fields then crosses the  RR tracks near the park and then run north of tracks and back to practice area.
