It does seem to me though that if you look at the emotion and excitement they show after the win, that they see it as a upset in the IIAC.

I don't think they saw the win as an upset.  I think they see it as a win against a team they have formed somewhat of a rivalry with.  The same team that had beaten them 6 or 7 straight times.  Not to mention, they beat them on the road, during Homecoming.
I agree with Krazy. That wasn't the emotion of an upset. That was the emotion of a monkey lifted off Coe's back. Over the past seven years, the better team hasn't always won in this rivalry. This year's Kohawks made sure it did.

I don't think Coe beating Wartburg was an upset either.  If you look at the pick-ems, most thought Coe would be able to do it.  I would think of it more as the celebration of a goal accomplished.  4 conference teams had emotional celebrations last year after defeating Central, by the 3rd and 4th time we had lost that season it was no longer an upset, but it was still a rarely accomplished goal and the teams rightfully celebrated accordingly.   :'(

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I think that Coe's season is great.  I was totally wrong about the Kohawks this year.  They are playing really well.  Get 4 more W's and they will be in the hunt for a Pool C bid.  They are still in the hunt for the AQ.  I never thought that they would be doing that this year.  Boyle has been great with protecting the ball.  Not throwing an Int this year has helped a bunch.

Coe fans:

First off congrats thus far, keep it up!

Secondly, you have to win out to have a shot at the playoffs, either through Central losing two games or more out of three, or the Dutch winning out and thus making your one loss to a top 5ish team make you a very very strong pool c candidate.

I personally choose the second option, either way good luck and stay healthy!

Well then congrats to Coe for finally getting that monkey off their back.  I do agree with Klompen.  After 3 losses, it will no longer be upsets.  Another reason the Knights need to turn things around.

I hadn't noticed until this morning that both Central and Wartburg are playing in the Key City on Saturday.  Do U of Dubuque and Loras have home games on the same day very often?

I would be happy to jump on that Central-Coe bandwagon.  I want to see my Dutch finish strong, take one game at a time, and head to the playoffs undefeated.

As a fan who doesn't have to concentrate on the game ahead and can dream a little, it would be icing on the cake to have Coe in the playoffs with them, definitely not IN PLACE of them.   ;)  As with most years, the west is stacked with a bunch of highly ranked teams.  4 of the top 8 being in the West makes it hard to even count on a home game if the Dutch finish undefeated, hopefully they will move another team to a different region.  But IF, and it is still a big IF, Central and Coe both win out, does Coe get a pool C with the region as strong as it is?  In DutchHawk's scenario, it would sure make sense, but there are still a lot of rated teams in the West.

Great idea, except that I'm getting pulled down to Cedar Rapids to work that day.  Just my luck that the two times the Wartburg football team comes to town this year, I have to work both days.   :-\

I want to clarify what I said earlier about being outcoached- It is VERY possible to be outcoached, I just don't think as a fan and without being in the film room that a spectator can claim that.
We don't know how the QB is coached up to make reads, how the RT is coached up to pass block, or how the CB is taught to cover a slant route.
Those are all things (along with many other plays in football) that all it takes is a momentary mental lapse and the game changes instantaneously. There are better coaches than myself out there that can minimize those lapses, and if I knew how, I could make a lot of money coaching.
On October 13th, 2006, I took my soph team to SEP and had more talent on the field, but 5 fumbles, 2 dropped for sure pick 6's, and several missed FGs and an extra pt later, we left with our tails between our legs in a 10-6 loss.
SOmetimes the best gameplan in the world just doesn't get executed (ALthough I wouldn't leave out the possibility that we got outcoached that day)

I thought what Coe did for pass protection was great. Is that something they've been doing all year? Cutting? Not going to be super-effective in its own right for 5-step, but for 3 step its perfect and I wish we could do it in HS.
What it does do for 5 step is slow up the rush just a little though because it gets in the DL's head that he may be cut.

If Central wins out they will play at least one home game in the playoffs, I would see Monmouth having to travel as a 10-0 team before the Dutch. If UWW, Linfield, SJU, Central all win out, I see MUC getting moved East, UWW North and then SJU or Central would vie for 1 2 seeds due to Linfield being put in the "Extreme West" sub-bracket and having to play whoever emerges from the SCIAC (Redlands/Occidental) However unfair that would be thats the travel issue with the NCAA and DIII expenses. With UMHB losing last week it puts the Pool C teams in a tougher spot as UMHB winning out will all but guarantee them one of those coveted spots, which definitely hurts a 9-1 Coe's teams shot at getting a C bid.

Of course I am no expert, and regional rankings will tell us a lot next week, but if anyone feels the need to point out and discrepancies/mistakes in my mini analysis please feel free.
