BTW, Wartburg's field is football only. If you have to hide behind a sloppy field to win games that's ok. I just hope you don't get anyone hurt because of it.

Really man...hide behind a sloppy field to win games? Field surface doesnt matter, each team has to play on it. That statement is just a little bit rediculous on your part.

Is Coe sending a scout team to Monmouth this week? We can help arrange convenient parking ('just across' the field) for a nominal fee.
Does Coe have a Greek System with national fraternities and sororites? just wondering.

Why?

Save yourself the drive and head over to www.JohnnieFootball.com first to check out JohnnieEsquire's first regional rankings prediction.

It's all free, no nominal fee required.

Hate to burst your rankings but your information is incorrect.  Central is 8-0 overall and 8-0 in region.  I think it will be more like UWW #1 SJU #2 and Central #3 with Linfield #4

Was nice to see the son out in hot SoCal.  It was really a hot game on Saturday.  It was really different getting a sunburn watching a football game in late October in shorts and tshirt.  Had great flights out and back.  I got the pickems done and posted if anyone is interested.  If you find mistakes please let me know.

If you are putting Coe in the playoffs, you'll get no argument from this board if they win out. However you probably will from the 2nd place WIAC and MIAC and SCIAC boards. Either way, I can't imagine how they would ever meet in the first round.

Geez Daddy-o, your on a roll today. Much like the UD tight end, its best if the player makes a name for himself first before making comparisons to the best the conference has to offer.

And as for grass vs field turf injuries? Lets just say that if player safety was the ONLY concern, there wouldn't be any field turf.

footballdaddy: I bleed orange & black as much as any Wartburg fan, but I can't let your earlier post go unchallenged.

RECEIVING        GP  No.  Yards   Avg   TD   Long   Avg/G
Matt Wickert      6   28    358     12.8   1    36       59.7

RECEIVING        GP  No.  Yards   Avg    TD   Long   Avg/G
Michael Zweifel   8   90    1130   12.6   12   46      141.2

This illustrates my point. If Wartburg threw at Wickert three times as much,he'd have similar stats to Zweifel. The same for Gustafson.

By that argument - you could take ANY two guys who have the same YPC average and say "but if player B had as many catches as player A, they'd have similar stats".

And in this case - even if you did TRIPLE Wickert's stats - he'd only have 3 TDs, compared to Zweifel's 12...big difference.

I haven't seen Wartburg play, but I have a hard time believing that Wickert is in the same league as Zweifel.  If he was, he'd have much more gaudy numbers than he does.  It's not like he's on a run first team like Central.  He's on Wartburg, with the pre-season league MVP Yordi at QB in a pass-first offense.

I have seen Zweifel play, and that kid is an absolute stud.  His hands are INCREDIBLE, probably the best I've seen in covering the IIAC for 9 years.

I'm not pimping Wickert. Take his name out and insert any other top 10 receiver in the conference, and I'll make the same argument.

Seriously, I have read enough of daddy long legs BS. Wickert couldn't even hold Zweifel's jock. BEFORE A GAME!! And for you to say insert ANY OTHER top 10 WR in the IIAC is just ridiculous. Footballfan and others have "nicely" gave you the facts. Not only is he one of the best athletes to ever play in the IIAC but also one of the best to play in the WIAC AND ALL OF D3!!!! Get a clue before you start running your mouth!

With love

If you haven't listened to this week's ATN podcast - Pat & Keith are both pretty much on board with the UWW shift we were talking about last week now that Wheaton has been beaten.

West - They say St. John's #1 with Central #2 - both agreeing that an argument could be made for swapping the two
North - UWW
East - MUC
South - Wesley

If all of that holds true - it would be interesting to see who really gets the #1 / #2 in the West.  My gut tells me that I'd like to avoid 3rd seeded Linfield in the 2nd round - and it'd obviously be huge to host the regional final if both Central & SJU got there.

Havent had chance to listen to it yet but why is there reasoning with putting Linfield at 3? Due to the "Extreme" west sub bracket?

The Regional Rankings released this week will be very interesting.  Pat posted on the Northwest Conference and Top 25 boards that he expected Linfield to be ahead of SJU and Central, largely because of SOS numbers.  But during the podcast, he and Keith hardly mentioned Linfield when discussing a possible West #1 (assuming a UWW move North).  Not sure if that was an oversight, or if they had reasons for passing over Linfield that they didn't discuss.  I think the three teams are very close and home-field advantage could be huge.  Perhaps Pat can elaborate...(or we'll just see what the rankings look like...)

Agreed, we didn't mention them at that point -- I did the numbers in the middle of the podcast. We talked about the numbers later.

I would like it to be known, I am and will always be a Spartan Fan. I supported the coaches I played for when I played (3 head coaches in 4 years BTW) and I supported the coaches that coached at UD every year since. I am a SPARTAN fan. Loyal. When I first started posting approx a decade ago, before daddy long legs jumped on the wartburg band wagon, I believed and supported the spartans through thick and thin...mostly thin except for 2 years. I had nothing to do with the decision to change coaches. Obviously, Spurrier is still bitter. However, not dwelling on things I cannot change and my personal experience and knowledge of the new coaching staff, I FIRMLY believe the UD Spartans will be a top team in the IIAC for the majority of the next decade. I believe we will see a new era in Spartan Football. I believe we will do it with a majority of tri-state recruits.

Excluding the last 2 games of this season, the season is already an improvement from last year with half the starters being freshman. What spartan fan besides Spurrier wouldn't be excited about the future????

doolittledog

I suspect even spurrier is excited for the Spartans.  Just a bit more subdued than the rest of us on here.  Especially if we continue to see some Florida kids show up on the UD roster each year.  It does look like we will finally see many tri-state athletes on the Dubuque roster, and I like that a lot.

And I wouldn't jump down footballdaddy...he's just expressing an opinion.  We all have ours.  I'll be happy to have Zweifel on our team the rest of this year and next.  He can be happy with what Wartburg has.  Seems to be working for them.

I'm already getting down, knowing there are only 2 game left for UD this season  :'(  But, I am looking forward to see how much improvement UD shows from this season to the next.  It should be a fun ride.  Now that my wife has a taste of IIAC football she is going all in.  She's told me we can watch replays of the Hawkeyes, she'd rather go to UD games.  Not sure what happened there, but I won't complain.

i would rather the spartan conversation gathered around wins than stats. . .hence the great passing combination of the the 90's that went 0-fer. .

Do you REALLY think those guys didn't want to win???  If you researched a little more, you would have known that the years PRIOR to "the great passing combination of the 90's", the UD offense could barely get 5 first downs in a game much less score any points!! And BTW, the coach that recruited the "great passing duo" was only there for 2 seasons before he got the head coaching job at Capital in Ohio. WHICH, by the way, HE developed from a program similar to UD at the time (bottom feeder of the OAC) into one of the top teams in the OAC along with Mount Union. Had Jim Collins stayed at UD for longer, things would have changed...IMHO

How about you instead concentrate on the positives of the Spartan season.

The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime.

Footballdaddy and Spurrier,

Although my beliefs in my posts are still the same, I apologize for the "harshness" in which I communicated them. My fantasy team losing by 1 point in the final minutes of monday nights game already had my mood swayed when reading the postboard last night  ;)
