This flies in the face of the notion of "Winners never cheat and Cheaters never win" (SCIAC is the exeption that makes the rule).  I'm sure many arguements could be made as to why this is or even explanations of why some teams always seem to do better than others, but here's my take on it.

I disagree - "If ya ain't cheatin, ya ain't tryin"

As far as holding and everything, there is a holding penalty on every play, its just whether the offensive linemen is good enough to not get caught.

A wise old coach once said to me,  "Show me an All-American O-lineman, and I'll show you a guy good at holding."

Yes, there is holding on each and every play. As a lineman your taught to not just block, but to 'lock'. or as much of you are saying, hold. Rule of thumb from the refs side of things, once the arms of the O-lineman goes on the outside of the defenses body your holding. Most holding penalties comes from a lineman that is getting beat and he doesnt want the defense to get by him. So his instinct is to continue to hold, over the thought of seeing the guy get by him.

Strength coach Doyle for Iowa.  Superior conditioning leads to 4th quarter rallies.

Or...Iowa wants their fans to get their money's worth.  Anyone can roll to a big lead and coast to an 18 point victory.  But it's more fun to get down by 10 and then make a 28 point turn around to win by 18 in the 4th!!!

Congrats to Central on wrapping up at least a share of another IIAC title.  I am going to start early so that I can get a full seven days of worrying about Central's trip to Wartburg.  I would feel much better if hadn't taken so many BV mistakes to shut them out today.  At least Brondyke is back to getting off 70 yard punts so they have that going for them.

You can change your signature line now DutchHawk  30 titles and 20 playoff appearances!  Congrats Dutch!

Kind of a ho-hum win for the Dutch, 0-0 2nd half due to as many Dutch mistakes as Beaver's  BV ends with -36 rushing due to 5 sacks, so the D basically made them one dimensional then pinned their ears back.  Zachary did get his 120 yards, but the Beaver D was pretty stout in the second half.  I think the Dutch tendency to go conservative, especially in this wind, was the Beaver's defensive advantage.  If the Dutch needed points I think they would have found a way to get 'em.

Very surprised by the Wartburg win, at least the margin.  I really thought that would be a nail biter and hoped it would go to Blue.  Next week will be interesting.

Good Luck RAMS tonight so my pick'ems aren't all messed up!
