While some people just don't like the Dutch...there are those that like to "pass the Dutchie 'pon the left hand side"

Ok, that is 25 years old and a bit vague, but oh well.  It worked Dutchie in there!!!

ok, tell me you saw the game last year total mismanagement of the clock . just in case you did not see the game let me give you a recap monmouth 1st and ten wartburg47 3..49 on clock monmouth drives to wartburg 11 3rd and a foot empty backfield wartburg no time outs1.21 remaining illegal procedure 3rd and six pass in endzone dropped. 4th down incomplete. why not just run the ball 3rd and a foot worst case scenerio clock continues to run by the time wartburg gets the ball back maybe 15 seconds left

dutchawk, true statement about last year records but 18 out of 19 starters back on a team that averaged 48 a game last year and 48 a game this year is a pretty consistent offense no matter who they play and lets see how central matches up against 4 and5 wides. That vaunted pass rush better be just that.

There's actually 22 starters on a football team in case you didn't know, and Monmouth lost 6 on defense and 1 on offense from 2008, so I'm not sure where you got this 18-19 stuff. haha  Also, the only reason I'm rooting for Wartburg and Buena Vista is: another Central loss means better seeding for MC although I think they may get moved, and another Coe loss improves St. Norbert's outside chances of getting in.  I'm rooting more for Buena Vista actually.  It would be great to have two MWC teams in for the first time ever.  Chances of Monmouth and Central playing are slim, the stars would have to align right, so I wish you good luck in the playoffs.

I will say this though, I've been reading this board periodically throughout the season.  Central fans are mighty confident for not have done anything yet.  Scots fans are in this boat alot too, but you were 6-4 last year and you haven't played your biggest rival of the past few years yet and the game's at their place.  Yet Central fans all feel there's no way they can lose if they play their best, even though I bet most haven't seen Wartburg at their best this year they just look at L's on their schedule and assume.  I didn't realize a 1 pt win at home to a WIAC in week 1 makes you untouchable.  I know the WIAC is the best conf. but it was even a non-Whitewater WIAC team that you beat.

Once again, Good Luck to Buena Vista and Wartburg this week.  No fear involved, because Central is already in, just conference interest.

and scots fan let the clock management thing go, you're never gonna be able to change it, you'll be a much happier person if you just let it go.....and 20-1 doesn't necessarily mean anything you have to look at the comp.  You pick the right teams, anyone could go 20-1, heck 100-1.  of those 20 our most impressive wins are against SNC both years.

sorry ,18 out of the top 19 offensive players are back.

MWCfan787

how do you determine the top 19 offensive players?? only 11 start

oh and by the way it was 7 players that they had to replace on d only the 1 safety  the 2 d ends started on a regular basis  and the tackle started sometimes

MWCfan787

hard to determine who is a starter on the front 7 because they switch from the 3-4 to the 4-3 from play to play.  I'm done invading this board for now though.

Clock mgmt is part of the game, right?  Maybe the coaching staff isn't as good as other coaching staffs.  And you gave one potential example.....

Regarding the Central/Wartburg game, I believe Wartburg will come out very motivated and Central better be ready for the game.  I'm sure Coach Willis and the warts would love to give the Dutch a nice loss to end Central's regular season and let Central know they are on notice for next yr.

Central fans are confident because our team has been doing things for the last 50 years.  Some years have been better than others.  Last year wasn't great.  This year seems to be better.  We will play it out and see what happens.

FWIW, I agree with you -- Central fans, who used to be known for their quiet confidence, have been pretty exuberant and excitable this year. The playoff talk began way too early in the season. Make no mistake, no one in Pella takes Wartburg (especially) very lightly -- we don't take any opponent lightly. The coaches will have the team prepared for one hell of a game. I expect Willis is doing the same in Waverly.

By the way, Strength of Schedule numbers (in case you were curious).... http://www.d3football.com/strength-of-schedule/2009

We were a 6-4 team that lost to the Wartburg team that evidently got super lucky to beat Monmouth by 2 points I think. Im done with this argument, its pointless. I dont see any over confidence or exuberance by Central fans. Are we confident? Yes. Do we have the right to be? Yes. Could we lose to Wartburg? Yes. Will our team be unfocused because we already have the AQ, no, they want to be 10-0 and beat Wartburg badly, trust me. And playing at Waverly doesnt really have an impact in my opinion.

Go Dutch, beat the Knights!

Well, if not having done anything yet means a guaranteed share of the conference and a guaranteed AQ to the playoffs, regardless of winning or losing this weekend, you're right.  Clearly we haven't accomplished anything.  I'm also not sure where you think we have performed miracles by beating Steven's Point.  I think most Dutch fans acknowledged the fact that the Pointer's dropped completly out of the rankings a couple of weeks after we beat them.

Plus my own post earlier said we only have one thing to focus on now and that is Wartburg and that I am worried about playing not to lose.  Also that "win or lose" the next week we have to work at getting better.  Sorry, I call those facts, not over confidence.
