The UD game today...

I missed most of the 1st half except to see the defense hold the Norse inside the 10 with less then a minute to play. My take on the 2nd half....Luther came out with passion and fight and were always in the game. I never felt our lead was "secure" until the interception towards the end. It was close (14-10) for a while. Spaulding ran hard and broke some great tackles and made some guys miss. I have to say, I am very happy he is only a soph. He has a bright future and will be a leader on this offense for the next 2 seasons.

Michael Zweifel needs his own paragraph..... I know this sounds like a broken record and he has been doing this all season BUT he made some plays today that were just flat out unbelievable. I mean, he seriously is a special ball player. The touchdown reception going up with 3 luther defenders around and then keeping his balance putting his hand on the ground and scoring was a difference maker in the game to make the lead 21-10. He had a few other catches in double and triple coverage that were also amazing. He is just fun to watch and I wish someone would make a highlight reel of him so my friends that haven't seen him play could understand what I am talking about.

Colten had an off day but did enough to win and still made some great plays when it counted. BUT, the real difference today, in my opinion, was the defense. I was very happy with the pressure on the QB and overall, they played a very solid game. They bent but didn't break and came up with some big stops. The was the best I have seen the defense play all season.

It was nice to see Coach Z take a knee at the end instead of trying to run it up like I have seen teams do so many times against the spartans in the past. I also heard there are a lot of ties between the coaching staffs and a lot of mutual respect.

All in all, I couldn't be happier for the spartans and coaches for the win today against a good luther team. I predict luther gets a win next week against loras.

PS- An added plus was seeing the 50+ IA/IL/WI recruits at the game

OK-I'm on the Central bandwagon for the next month.  I'll dig out my Nebraska replica jersey and pretend it is a Central variety.  Good luck to the Dutch.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2009 IIAC FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS

The Wartburg Knights receive the conference automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs

Of course it is the soccer type football, but what the hell I need to find something to celebrate.  Turn on the blender, I'm making Margaritas

Brad Boyle the sophmore quarterback broke the NCAA record for most passes attempted in a row with out throwing an interception.
An NCAA record ought to solidify his case for MVP.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

Congrats to Cornell for a much deserved and overdue win. I think Heys will fly back to CA without the benefit of a plane.

I wish Central the best of luck in the playoffs. I also hope Coe makes them too.

All I can say about thw game today is this: I would love to play Central again next week. The Dutch are fortunate they have the bye week to get ready beacuse I belive Wartburg exposed some areas of Central's defense. A little more aggressiveness in our red zone play calling in the first quarter, and we might have had a different game. Those were the exact thoughts of a Central parent after the game.Wartburg was far from perfect, and the same problem areas in our defense were made apparent today. Our offese stopped itself as much as Central. Neverlheless, the Dutch were better when it counted and won a hard fought game.

I again wish Central all the best in the post season.

Congratulations to the Dutch! What a great season to watch!

In past seasons the IIAC has got two teams into the playoffs.  In those seasons were the two teams co-champions?  Has there ever been a season where the second place team made it into the playoffs?

What's the over/under on how many people got sunburn in Iowa yesterday?

I know Willis is putting an emphasis on running the ball again after Wartburg going away from it under Coach Koehler.  I don't know if Coach K meant to go away from the run, but I believe Willis understands you control a game by having a successful run attack so look for more of that in the future.

As far as how Wartburg will do after the Yordi era I believe every team in the conference has to adjust to a new quaterback every couple of years so I am sure we will be fine.  Our sophomore QB has a very strong accurate arm and if we can run the ball he becomes even more effective.

Also, congratulations to the Dutch and good luck in the playoffs.
Win or lose we still booze!!

Thanks FBdaddy and Warthog.  As I posted before just because Wartburg had 3 losses coming into the game I thought Wartburg would give their best effort.  I was not wrong.  They played a very good game.

Heys congrats to Cornell and their seniors.  A long wait.  I hope they don't have to wait too long for another IIAC win as long as they aren't playing the Dutch.   ;D ;D ;D.  If all works out right I may see you for the Coe game.  With Central off I may need a game to come watch.

Believe this is the third year Wartburg has been using the no huddle. Its nothing new to college football and hardly "gimmicky."
A lot of High School's use it now as well. Just a good way to get the tempo going and look over the Defense. We use it every once in a while at Dowling and we are 75% run.
Congrats to Central on the season they had (are having).
Didn't even realize it until I got home last night that when I left for football meetings early yesterday morning I threw on a Central shirt. It wasn't showing at any point yesterday, but boy was I embarassed.
You come to Wartburg to play for championships
