Heys congrats to Cornell and their seniors.  A long wait.  I hope they don't have to wait too long for another IIAC win as long as they aren't playing the Dutch.   ;D ;D ;D.  If all works out right I may see you for the Coe game.  With Central off I may need a game to come watch.

I hope to see you there.  You will easily find me...I will be wearing the Rams horns.  (no leggings, though   ;) )

;D

Don't get confused DF2K4.  There were some...ok, a 4 year old at Ash Park, that thought PH looked more like a Viking than someone wearing Rams horns ;)

Well done Rams! I wish I could've been there.

Big CONGRATULATIONS to the Cornell players, coaches, fans, and particularly the seniors for the win on Saturday!!!!  Heys, it isn't just a game ahead now, it is continuation of the WINNING STREAK that is on the line!  Way to go, Rams!  Last year you took the Dutch to the limit and beyond before we eaked out a win.  We all expected you to get a win this season, glad it came on senior day too yet.  Very fitting for the 5 seniors that have hung in there.

Congratulations to Brad Boyle on setting an NCAA record.  That is a major accomplishment and given how much better Coe is doing than most gave them preseason credit for, I think Boyle has a stronger chance at POY than the Central players being talked about by our supportive fans, including me.

Dubuque, glad to see that you are still hanging in there and fighting strong.  Most of us are familiar with the UD teams that pack it in when things aren't going well, glad to see you are turning a corner.  I think it was coming prior to SZ becoming coach, but glad to see you are still moving forward.  Gives me hope for Central's men's basketball team.   ;)

Congratulations to WB for playing a great game and not giving up.  I never felt that the game was in doubt because our offense was having a terrific day and eating up clock time, but it was good to have a team keep us battling to the end.  That is the best that I remember Yordi playing against the Dutch.  He got rid of the ball quickly and always seemed to have a short play option when the deep ball wasn't available.  I'm not sure I agree that it showed weakness to future playoff teams so much because most QB's don't throw that fast, but if we meet up with another quick release QB, I still have faith in the offense scoring more.

Dutch!  Congratulations on another perfect season, outright conference championship and a return to the playoffs.  The IIAC rep has moved to the West regional championship game the past two years, would love to continue that and move on beyond it.  It has been a long time since I have been to the Stagg Bowl and would like to experience this location, though I did kind of like Phoenix City.

Nate Snead had an unbelievable game on Saturday and it was a battle of two great QB's.  Glad to have Snead on the Dutch side as he was more versatile being successful in running and passing.  And what a day of passing!  Wow!!!  And mastering the clock and scoring that TD right before the half then coming back with another great drive to start the second half set the momentum.  WB didn't give up, but they didn't catch up either.  Not sure I like seeing the pass coverage playing as far off the receivers as they were, not sure if that was because of how fast Yordi was letting go of the ball or because we were playing prevent the big play defense that kept the clock moving.  A win at WB is as hard to come by for teams as a win at Central, good to come away with one.  Now just concentrate on getting better.

Has there ever been a season where the second place team made it into the playoffs?
Okay, I'm really showing my age here.  Way back in 1988, Central played at Simpson for the last game of the season with both teams undefeated.  If I remember right, it was about the time the team was loading the bus to go to Indianola that Central found out the conference leading Central QB Flynn was out with a hair line fracture to the vertibre in the neck area.  Greg Thomas moved to starting QB and played insane football with a broken jaw most of the second half.  Central lost when an extra point attempt that would have tied the game went wide in the closing seconds.

Both Central and Simpson went to the playoffs that year with Central as the second place IIAC team.  In a freezing game at Concordia (MN) our freshman QB threw more interceptions than completions, but our defense did not let Concordia score and Central won on a second half kickoff return for a TD.  Not sure the game would have ever ended without that.  Our D would not allow a score and our O couldn't.   :D

Next game we moved a receiver to QB and went on to shock Whitewater.  Then it was a double OT win against our nemisis of the time, Augustana and the Dutch were in the Stagg Bowl without a true QB.  Not bad for a second place IIAC team.

Allowing myself some more reflection on yesterday...

Our Defense was the star.  4 picks, 8 TFL's including 3 sacks, 3 QB Hurries.

Our Offense had one heck of a 1st half, but went into a shell for most of the 2nd half and that's where the Defense picked us up.  Loras had more opportunities in the 2nd half and the Defense made several big plays.

Several big plays and several big players:  Spickerman and Tabor had their best days as collegians, Barlow came up huge on the final play, Kelly's diving pick was a stunner...but I gotta give the game balls to the Seniors.

King played hurt for more than half the game and collected a pick off Spickerman's deflection as well as punting for better than 41 yards per with a 66-yarder.  Bladt's pick was a dagger that set up the winning TD.  But to me, the signature play and most pivatol play was the indomintable play of Zasada and Siar and the way the D-Line stood up Loras on 4th and 1 with 3:16 in the 4th Quarter.  That's when it cemented the belief we would win this one. (Thanks ultimately to Joe Barlow).

From what I saw on the podcast ... and from your various comments ... I'd say the Rams played a complete game from the opening kickoff to the final tackle.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Not sure which game you were watching, but taking a three score lead and making it a one score lead with time left in the 4th quarter would seem to put the game in some doubt. I didn't see Central pulling any starters. I'm sure Coach Mac is concerned about how Wartburg moved the ball on offense. I wouldn't say we moved the ball at will, but we moved the ball in ther air and on the ground. We stopped ourselves as much as Central did. I belive this game was one play away from a Wartburg win, we just didn't get it to happen. Talking to our players after the game, we would love to play it again, any time, any where.

Footballdaddy,

I get your point about it being a close game.  But with an 8 point win I believe your statement about it being a play away from a Wartburg win is not correct.  8 Points would take at least two plays to be different.  The Knights were a play away from being tied but not a play away from winning.   ;D ;D ;D

Of course, what kind of competitor wouldn't want to replay a game they lost (what is there to lose)?  I'm just not following your point.  This was the first time I'd seen the Dutch this yr, and the defense looked meh, at best....but Wartburg's didnt' look very good either.

If they played again, I'd guess another high scoring game and I'd give the Dutch the edge based on being able to run/control the game.

Whatever, I'm fine w/ Wartburg taking some frustration out on Simpson and sending them into the offseason w/ a BIG LOSS!!!!!!!!

Without the facemask on the fumbled punt snap we get at least a field goal which is a 10 point swing. Besides that, if we are more aggressive in the red zone in the first quarter we get at least one td there. But I'm not going to play the what if game. Central won, Wartburg lost.
