There is also a convivial little place attached to Bos Landen.  Coming from out of town, you might have a hard time finding it.  I get lost every time I try.

Bos is still there, but the Bunker is gone.

Be warned, Baptists are coming! (and as a Baptist minister those words scare me!  ;))

Central was actually founded by the Baptists and there is a Baptist church right across from campus.  We will be glad to welcome you to Pella.  We may not give you the Dutch treat you come in search of, but we welcome you.
That makes sense, Baptists have been about education for a very long time.  (UMHB was originally chartered by the Republic of Texas under the Same charter as Baylor University) My wife said I can't come to the game.  I'll be glued to the internet with BBQ in hand though.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Purple Heys

Back in San Diego...Temps in the 70's...me and my weather made it back just fine.   8)
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Purple Heys

2 things you can count on...

Peyton Manning will beat you when you give him less than 30 yards to drive to score the winning TD;

A MIAC/Johnnie invasion on your board when you get them in the playoffs.

;D

Yup and the Johnnie fan's silence will be deafening after Saturday!

Wish we were sent to the UWW region and got to play Wabash.

Absolutely!

I'm kinda glad we aren't...although it would be very interesting facing the Burn and his new team I think it's better for Coe not to as we would more than likely need to change a lot of our offensive and defenesive signals as the Burn brought them and planted them into Coe's playbook.

I'm sure that would be overcome by the desire to beat Rayburn by the players who played for him before and didn't exactly enjoy the experience.

I recommend staying at the Royal Amsterdam Hotel downtown and eating at Monarch's which is located in the hotel.  It's 6 blocks from the stadium and gives a special rate for Central events.
Does anyone know if Pella has a movie theater. I couldn't locate one. May need something to do Friday night ;)

Yes, there's a theater;
Pella Cinemas
PO Box 222
Pella IA 50219
(641)621-0329   Fax: (641)621-0329

its even a tri-plex!  Wooo - hooo

its just across the Molengrat from the Amsterdam, but if I were you I'd just hang out at the bar.

The nearest Hooter's is in DM.  Most people in Pella drink in the privacy of their own home, which makes it a nice quiet place to live but not too good for the visiting, unless its Tulip Time http://www.pella.org/aspx/traveltourism/plan/extra.aspx?cid=0&sid=5&n1id=10&n2id=70

Thanks. Hoping to check out THE BLIND SIDE Friday night.

Typical Dubuque Telegraph-Herald.  Big headline commenting on Loras and their 2-8 record.  1 paragraph at the end with a mention of UD.

http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=263652

And you wonder why we UD alums don't like Loras >:(

There is also an article about a local priest that was inducted into the Cornell athletic hall of fame this fall.  He was a defensive all-american at Cornell in the late 1970's.

http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=263653

There were also articles for the Loras and Clarke basketball teams.  For the UD basketball team just a box score.   Good ole Dubuque and their catholic bias!!!

doolittledog

I also remembered DF2K4 mentioning he thought UD played much better at home than on the road.  I took a look at the stats over the last 4 seasons.

In conference games UD went 7-9 at home and 8-8 on the road.  In non-con games UD went 2-2 at home and 3-1 on the road.

Against BV, Dubuque went 1-1 at home and 1-1 on the road.
Against Central, UD went 0-2 at home and 0-2 on the road.
Against Coe, Dubuque went 0-2 at home and 1-1 on the road.
Against Cornell, UD went 2-0 at home and 2-0 on the road.
Against Loras, Dubuque went 1-1 at home and 0-2 on the road.
Against Luther, Dubuque went 2-0 at home and 1-1 on the road.
Against Simpson, UD went 1-1 at home and 2-0 on the road.
Against Wartburg, UD went 0-2 at home and 1-1 on the road.

Moral of the story???  Make friends at the tailgate and drink plenty of beer and eat some tasty food...because a UD win is about a 50/50 proposition no matter where they are playing!!!

Yup and the Johnnie fan's silence will be deafening after Saturday!

Most of the fans are old duffers than don't make much noise, any ways.   But, be assured there will be some cheering when the Johnnies send the Kohawks back to CR to turn in their equipment.

A tradition unrivaled...

no bail out for me until I'm permanently done with grad school.  If I'm getting bailed out its going to be for the whole kitty not just the tail ::)
