Remember all the IIAC expansion talk from earlier this fall?  How about a six-team IIAC? http://gazetteonline.com/blogs/diamonds-and-ice/2009/11/18/a-new-conference-for-cornell-coe-and-luther?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+GazetteonlinecomDiamondsAndIce+(GazetteOnline.com+Diamonds+and+Ice)

Interesting comments near the end of the article.

"We knew that there were some serious discussions going on last summer and over the early fall," IIAC Commissioner Chuck Yrigoyen said of the ACM. "But we have been under the impression those talks were dead.

"We'd hate to see them go. Unfortunately schools make those decisions, and that's the way it is."

Makes you wonder if there are some legs to this rumor.

but not any score predictions.......

Speed Kills UMHB 21 Central 10

At least we agree on UMHB staying in the low 20's. Not their usual 40 to 50 range.  ::)
I'd expect it to be in the 20s more because of the game speed than anything else.  With both teams running the ball this game will go fast.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Kohawk fan(s) are unlikely to have heard of local St Cloud reporter Frank Rajkowski, but his blog brings some bad news for you...

Junior linebacker Billy Lawrence is back practicing after leaving last week's win over Carleton with a sprained ankle. He will play Saturday against the Kohawks, though senior Ryan Wimmer will return to the starting lineup after missing last week's game following a mild concussion suffered against Augsburg on Nov. 7.

With quarterback Joe Boyle and running back Jimmy Loonan also expected to play Saturday, that leaves only running back Jakob Reding as doubtful.

The Johnnies have been fighting injuries all year... Are they coming good in post season?  I think they are.  Oh my.

Check out the Around the Nation column on the front page. Seems that this board isn't the only one scratching their heads about the Central matchup. BTW, will Central be webcasting the playoff games or is there some sort of NCAA copyright deal that prohibits that?

Shouldn't be...UWW/Lakeland is being streamed online and on local tv in that area. (scroll down page for link)

Excellent. Now, if I can only get consist internet coverage over here, it will be perfect.

I've been off the site for a little bit. Mom has been sick. Heart surgery was needed. She is doing great now and resting.

I'm going to share a little fact about my Mom. She gets very nervous on going to football games and even watching them on TV/internet. In the past 8 years she has gone to two games and watched six games. In those combined eight games her grandsons' teams has lost all of them. That included the one loss season in 2005.

So with that fact in mind my Mom, during her resting period, will not be allowed to watch the games either Friday or Saturday. She has been limited to Andy Griffith, Matlock and the Wheel of Fortune. ;D :o ::)

Hope your Mom makes a speedy recovery, but recommend that you never allow her to listen or watch football ever again, at least if Central is involved.  Two years ago they were known as the cardiac kids, coming from behind to win most conference games.  Didn't have an easy win until we hit St. Johns.  (Quick Dutch fans, give me some Karma, I'm going to need it.)  Wouldn't want them doing anything that would cause your mom to have another episode.  Her health is of utmost concern to the Dutch.   ;)

Got ya coveredd Klomp, that 07 game was the most fun i've had in Pella in many a year.
Thanks!  Sadly, that was the most fun I've had in Pella in many a year too, and I live here.   :'( :'( :'(  Wish I had it on video, it would perk up those long off-season days.

So, in one post we are to beleive that the Crusaders defense is good vs the run due to the 59 per game opp. average.  yet earlier on Crusader posting says the ASC brings a pass heavy offense to all games, so the d is pass D tested and ready.  Pick your poison,  This Central squad is loaded with options and much more balanced offensively than the stats may indicate.

I noticed the same thing.  I'm hoping the fact that their opponents are pass happy is a very good thing for the Dutch.  I have a feeling that neither one of us has seen quite what the other team has to bring to the table.  Should be a great game on Saturday.  So will the offenses or defenses dominate?  I could go with Central's offense and Central's defense.   ;)

I think it will probably look like the defenses on the scoreboard because I don't think there will be that many possessions for each team if both offenses do there thing and grind out possessions.

What is the wind like at the stadium?

When it blows from the west it comes off of a pasture.  Hope for an easterly.  Then it comes from the bakeries.

I think it will be a defensive battle as well and I will project Central 24-UMHB 20 in OT.  I would guess winds gusting at 25 - 30.

Cross winds? or the direction of the field?

Bakeries sounds much better.  Of course it could be worse, could blow off a feed lot.

I kind of thought the same thing.  It would be real interesting to see what the IIAC would do if this happened.  The only members of the Midwest Conference not involved would be Carroll, Illinois College, and St. Norbert.  The IIAC could just swallow them up, but I have to imagine BV would not be happy having to make trips to Waukesha and De Pere on a regular basis.

Interesting article.  I can't speak for the IIAC schools, but as a MIAC guy I'd say no way St. Olaf leaves and unlikely for Carleton.  Mac on the other hand is a wild card.  They've already dropped out of playing FB in the MIAC, which could be construed as a half step in the direction of a new conference affiliation.

Personally, given the academic strength of the MIAC as a whole, top to bottom, I don't know that I see the benefit of a move like this for the MN teams.  Not when they've got a conference where the majority of their competition is within an hour and a half.  But in Mac's case, they might like the idea of being competitive in sports.  We'll see, but I'd hate to see any of them go, although Mac would be the least painful.
