Central was the best team we played all year. The size of the line was more D1 than D3. Just glad we could hold on at the end. Great college football game regardless of the level. For those that live in Pella we received wonderful hospitality during our short stay and according to some of our players, your kids played the game hard without any trash talking. That in and of itself is something to be proud of.

Thanx for the sentiments! Playing hard without talking smack is a pillar of Central football. Besides, you should see our coaches. They'll pull an All-American if he starts mouthing off in someones face. Doesn't matter who it is. Now, some players have a real mean streak (see DutchHawk circa 2005) but they keep their mouths shut. Hope you had a chance to check out the pastry shops.
Hope you had a chance to check out the pastry shops brought some home. Would defintily have to work out if I lived there. ;D

I want to preface this post by saying UMHB was the better team and deserved everything that happened.
I just have one question: Why were there no calls made when UMHB came onto the field and some of there players took off their helmets during live play?
I was at the game. What are your refering to?

QuoteBy the way.  I enjoyed the broadcast yesterday.  I enjoyed it enough that I listened to you guys instead of the UMHB radio team.

Ditto.

It was nuts trying to follow several games at once. You guys made following the Game of the Week great. May you have many/none of those games again. Your choice!

Thanks for all of the kind words guys.  This was an incredibly fun season to follow - as most are for the Dutch.  I'm already looking forward to 2010 - it's gonna be a great year.

Being away and not being able to attend the game Saturday was hard.  I did have an incredible weekend with #2 son and wife in Philly seeing sites.  Home now and have time to look at posts and I forgot to congratulate the Cru for the win.  You earned it, good for you and good luck next round.  I will be on the Cru bandwagon for a week till they meet the Kohawks.  Wish I could have listened to you Dutch Radio but the signal does not get to the Gettysburg Battlefield.   ;D ;D ;D ;D I think the upcoming season has a bright look to it as well.

When sneads pass was tipped on the 2-pt conversion, many Cru players didn't see the play wasn't dead yet, and some removed their helmets in celebration along with some of the sideline coming out on the field. Now, I am not an official, but there should have been an unsportsman like penalty along with the illegal forward pass which would've been offsetting and resulted in a replay of the down.
Now, I believe the better team won, but it such a shame we will never know the what the outcome could've been if the refs didn't interfere, and its terrible that such an amazing game now has a stain on it.

As a follow-up to my last post, I think it's well known that we Johnnie fans were not all that convinced that this season's team was a great team. They seemed to be able to do what it took to win, while making mistakes, but were not dominant. That being said, they won their conference, and every game they played. It was also posted many times that it was a toss-up as to who should be rated higher, Linfield, Central or St John's. Maybe you could have made a case for them being rated #7 in the nation, or #3 in the bracket. A similar case could be made for rating them exactly where they were rated. That's the nature of polls, and voting, when there is only so much data to go on. That being said, since the Championship, and all games leading up to that game, are played on the field, it is a moot point.

The bad thing would be to have no playoffs and the poll makers having #1 playing #2. Sound familiar?

I know I've been quiet since hte playoffs started on here. Proud of the Kohawks.

Particularly like how once the Kohawks won, some Johnnie fans came on here saying how this Johnnie team wasn't as good, blah blah blah, get over yourselves

With the regards to the onside kick offsides, I don't know the exact rule in college, but as someone stated earlier, it's legal in the pros for your plant foot to be across the line.  Viggers kicks his onside kicks very uniquely - as he runs right down the line of scrimmage to do so.  However, I don't think it was a case that he crossed the line on his approach, because when the ref was giving his explanation to a VERY livid coach McMartin, he kept making kicking type motions with his leg, as if the penalty occurred as the kick took place.  And no matter what the actual penalty was, there was never a penalty flag thrown on the play.  That was frustrating to say the least.

I think Toby Taff and the Cru fans might be thinking somewhat of a goes around, comes around situation regarding that kick. Only heard about it here, but definately a potential game changing play in Pella on Saturday going in the Cru's favor...last year in the National Semi-Final v UWW in Belton, the second half wind-blown, backward kickoff going against the Cru - only a second half kickoff, but what turned out to be a big momentum shifter nonetheless that the Cru could never recover from in their 39-13 loss.

How would making the correct call be wrong? Why should they get away with something like that?
I can understand not making the call and letting the kids play, as it most of the refs were doing (both sides got away with some PI calls), and I loved that, let the players decide the game, but how can one ref not call the unsportsman like, then seconds later one of them makes "the call"

I see my karma is starting to bleed. Oh well, it did after I said Central would beat SJU in 2007 and I survived. BTW, I was right then too.

The word "too" in this post means you were right at some other time. When was that? If you mean you will have been right after Saturday, please use the correct tense. I guess they have trouble at academics in Iowa "too."

I think my quote stands.

By the way, I contacted the Coe SID and AD and provided an opp to post up their thoughts on the game.  No response.
Yawn. I would think they'd have more important things to do than respond to a fan site. At least I sure hope they do. Coe needs to spend every ounce of its energy getting ready for the mighty God's gift to college football. We don't stand a chance, of course, but maybe we can at least make a half of it. We bow to your greatness and are humbled by your superiority.  ::)

Wow, so much for social media.  Guess it's tough for you iwegians to do more than one thing at a time.  That I will say bodes well for the J's.

Enjoy the off season.

You enjoy it too. Will SJU turn in their pads on the 23rd or wait until after Thanksgiving?

I'm still waiting for the answer.

The utmost respect to Central for sticking with it and almost pulling the game out. You've shown what football in the IIAC is like. Good luck to UMHB until you meet Coe. Here is to the Kohawks for making a big run.
