Do I dare be the one to start the debate on whether cheerleading is a sport and risk the wrath of DutchFan1?

I guess it depends on how you define a sport. Dictionary.com defines it as an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. While I was at Central, they had reclassified cheerleading - upgraded it from an Athletic Club to a sport. But hey, what we did was pretty athletic....we did more than stand and clap. We stunted and competed at a higher level. We considered ourselves athletes, even though we didn't put on pads and hit each other.  ;D

If you can drink and smoke while you are doing it then it is not a sport.  Yes I 'm talking about you, Fishing, Golf, and Bowling!   :D

I met my wife while I was playing Bocce and drinking beer.  I guess this means I can't tell my kids that I met mom at a sporting event...which sounded much better than the 4th of July bbq that the reality of it is!!!

Where is DBQ1965???  I need to know how many days it is until 2010 IIAC kickoff ;)

You could just refer to it as multi-tasking.

Personally, I liked 5 Words or Less much better when his posts lived up to his name.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

I first met mine when she walked in and I was in bed with one of her sister's friends.  :)  We just tell the kids we met in college and leave at that.

I'm guessing Purpla Heys couldn't break 120 on a pitch and putt course. I suggest you do some research and find out what some hockey, baseball, and football players say about golf. But then again, I'm not sure you can read, or comprehend what you read.

WOW - that was harsh!

My golfing average is only about 50 lower than my bowling (I'm about a 150 bowler - you do the math), but find I score better in both with a beer or two in me! :D  My scores would probably be better, but my usual golf course doesn't allow drinking, and my bowling league is at 12:30 pm. :(

The ultimate 'kegger' sport would, of course, be slow-pitch softball.  If there is no keg, the game is called off due to 'weather'! ;D

2 straight years with their bye week the last week of the season???

Well, if that's the way the conference schedule is set up, yes. I don't think you're going to find too many non-conference opponents looking to play in Week 11.

And if the conference bye week schedule weren't the same two years in a row, then how would schools put together contracts for non-conference games from year to year?

Didn't you bean one of the opposing cheerleaders in the head with a pom pom once?  ;D

How can Oshkosh be on any schedule outside the WIAC?

Title IX proponents love cheer leading classified as a sport. Now daughter can get a scholarship to college. Son dare not try out until he's out.

badgerwarhawk...+k for that move. Getting in the middle of a sibling rivalry... always exciting.

Coe not interested in new conference     Posted on Nov 30, 2009 by Jeff Johnson.

"Well, at least right now.

Coe College President Dr. James Phifer confirmed Monday that the school does not plan "at this time" to take part in further discussions about the possible formation of an athletics conference that would include all or some of the 14 schools in an academic consortium called the Associated Colleges of the Midwest."
