Coe not interested in new conference - CR Gazette

Coe not interested in new conference     Posted on Nov 30, 2009 by Jeff Johnson.

"Well, at least right now.

Coe College President Dr. James Phifer confirmed Monday that the school does not plan "at this time" to take part in further discussions about the possible formation of an athletics conference that would include all or some of the 14 schools in an academic consortium called the Associated Colleges of the Midwest."

I read that article this morning and it didn't really surprise me. From the outside looking in, I don't really see a reason why Coe would want to leave the Iowa Conference. One of the things I heard while I was at Cornell was the fact that being in the Midwest Conference meant high amounts of travel expenses. They're gonna need more money if they plan on every sport playing in Wisconsin and Illinios from time to time. I'd like to see them stay in the IIAC and see what Cochrane can do to change the programs at Cornell.

As far as the cheerleading stuff goes, I've always said it's a sport if they're a team that competes against other cheerleading squads. If they just cheer during games, I don't really consider that a sport. I have a couple of family members that have been cheerleaders or cheer coaches. They (and you) may agree or disagree with me but it's my opinion... and this board is filled with opinionated mofos.

I'm guessing Purpla Heys couldn't break 120 on a pitch and putt course. I suggest you do some research and find out what some hockey, baseball, and football players say about golf. But then again, I'm not sure you can read, or comprehend what you read.

Cover up that raw nerve dude...    ;D

Way to go Freddy..great story!  I actually made a comment the other day that when they start him or give the ball to him more, then the team has played a lot better - I just wish I had picked him up on fantasy last week...damn myself

Interesting news that Cornell voted to continue discussion of the new conference while Coe and Luther did not.  I can't find any reason that a conference move would be a good thing for those schools.

Cornell might have a better shot at winning more than one conference title in 10+ years of being in a Conference if they were to move.

Personally, I liked 5 Words or Less much better when his posts lived up to his name.

Yes, but for a school that has indicated in the past that they would like to focus on academics and not athletics...they would now be spending more on athletics because of the added travel costs.

Of course, the academic side of the school could also point out that they are in a conference of like minded schools that promote the academic side of things and even though it would now be more expensive to maintain an athletic department, they could feel smug about themselves.  It wouldn't make sense, but things don't always make sense in our world.

My golfing average is only about 50 lower than my bowling (I'm about a 150 bowler - you do the math), but find I score better in both with a beer or two in me! :D  My scores would probably be better, but my usual golf course doesn't allow drinking, and my bowling league is at 12:30 pm. :(

I find that nothing increases my golf score more than witnesses.  :D

There isn't much talk about this upcoming game. I see Calvin and Tate will represent Coe this Saturday. The roster isn't too friendly on the eyes with the messed up text but I did see a couple of Dubuque players on there. Is anyone else from the IIAC playing?

Jr. got invited to the D3 Senior Classic but had to decline...he's going to the Aztec Bowl/Tazon de Estrellas in Mexico City.  He worked an arrangement out with his teacher to miss the last week of class.

He couldn't miss that much school to go to the Senior Classic...he really wanted to go to that one too.  He just got invited to a game in Minnesota at the MetroDome..that game has D3 and D2 players, but it seems to be more regional.

It is interesting that the very first "confirmed" player listed on the North roster is an offensive guard from Linfield.  I have a hunch he may have a more important game on Saturday.
