The article talks about his ability to recruit.

Will Cornell's admissions standards trip him up a bit in that area?

His head recruiter at UD is now the DC at a D3 school in New Jersey.

Maybe he sold them that he spent 3 years coaching in Minnesota and 10 years in Wisconsin and would be able to recruit locally ;D ;D ;D   Seriously though, Cornell has had to recruit nationally in the past, and Brautigam has coaching contacts throughout the country.  He didn't have to bring in kids with high grade points before, but that doesn't mean his contacts won't be able to put him in contact with kids that would be able to gain admission into Cornell.  Hopefully this works out for Vince.  He did have a Cornell grad on his staff his final year at UD, maybe he can get on the staff at Cornell now!!!

That Cornell grad was coaching OLB and special teams for Cornell this past season. They have Coach B up already.

Coach B at Cornell certainly adds an interesting mix in the IIAC now.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Forgot to ask ... Purple Heys, what is your take on this?

"Our goal at Cornell is to get to 75-plus student-athletes in a short amount of time and be able to add a junior varsity program. Our expectation is to win and to win right away."

75 players is a realistic goal. I've said before that a JV program is huge for the younger/inexperienced guys getting playing time and running their actual plays. I wonder what kind of time table he's thinking about here. I think it's a good hire. I look forward to seeing what kind of impact he has on the Cornell program.

Brautigam saying they want to build the roster up to 75 players immediately and start a JV team sounds promising.  Hopefully that means they are staying in the IIAC.  I doubt that rumored ACM conference would have JV programs.

I'm just glad he didn't make any outlandish statements about beating Coe. That would seem a long-term goal, at best.  ;D
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

"Purple Heys, there's a Mr. Brautigam on line 1 for you"

If I were Vince Brautigam I would be talking to PH soon and gathering any and all recruiting info that I could get.  There were already a few SoCal kids interested with Cornell.  He might as well keep them interested.

Cornell was also getting into the Florida market with recruits.  I would suspect this will continue with the Brautigam hire.

Also nothing definitive on the fate of the clown socks. Hope we haven't seen the last of those beauties. Although, with 75 guys, they might have to share.

Good one Charlie. I have to admit it made me laugh.

Good stuff Charlie.

I wonder if there will be any confusion on which week is rivalry week.

You know, Coe losing to a Brautigam led 2-8 Dubuque team in 2004 kept Coe from winning the IIAC outright  :P

Purple Heys

I felt for Coach B when he got pushed out of UD.  I think Coach Z was a good hire for UD for their own reasons.

On that same note, I think Coach B is a good hire for the Rams.  Here's a guy that doesn't have to learn the IIAC, doesn't have to learn how to recruit Iowa athletes, and he recruits nationally.

There's a certain continuity to this.  He's no retread to me...he's got a proven track record building a moribund program into some success...in the IIAC.

I am 100% behind this.  They got it done quick too.  I will do whatever I can to help build the pipeline into SoCal and San Diego.
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

All in all I think the Rams made the right choice.  Coach Brautigam has rebuilt a couple programs, he knows the territory, and I think he has a good reputation with high school coaches.  Good for the Rams.
