... Brautigam and his wife Allison reside in Dubuque and have two sons, Nick, 19, and Zack, 16. Nick is a freshman on a football scholarship at Division II Northern Michigan University. Zack is a junior at Dubuque Wahlert High School ...

Two for one offer?

Nick has no # assigned on the roster list.  He had no statistics for the season.  My guess is he may show up in a Rams jersey next year.

Nick works for a roofing company in the summer so there is no telling where he might end up.
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

The Telegraph-Herald does a decent job with local news following the recruiting trail for local athletes.  From what I remember, Nick Brautigam initially was getting some interest from D1-AA schools such as UNI, WIU, and Ill. St. The paper also mentioned a couple of MAC schools were interested.  Nick spent most of his senior year injured and dropped down to a D2 school.  If he ends up at Cornell I would think he would be a pretty good addition.  I think he played safety in high school.

I've been gone for awhile and it is good to get back.  Congratulations to Coach Staker on his latest coaching recognition.  Congratulations also to Cornell for making a quick hire and, I believe, a good one.

Nobody knows more than Coach Brautigam what the challenges will be, Cornell was the team keeping UD out of the cellar many of those years.  He has done it before and has a more realistic view of what it will take than anyone else they could have hired.  I think it was the best hire Cornell could make unless they were able to dig up some really big bucks and hire a Central grad.   ;D

It will also put a fire under Brautigam who has to know how sweet it would be to come back and beat the school that let him go after he started their turn around efforts.  Coe, who's Coe, there's a new rivalry in town.

How much history is out there for coaches switching schools within the conference?  Whether fired or just moved to another school.  Not just head coaches, but also assistants that moved on to a head coaching position.

I know Osterberger left BV for Loras 4 years ago, and now Brautigam will jump from Dubuque to Cornell.

Who else is there?

Bob Furness was an assistant at UD ... and as I remember back in the early 70's (I think), Furness went from UD to the staff at Coe.  Someone on here said he doesn Coe game broakcasts now.

As Lee Corso would say..."not so fast, my friend"  Coe was in the MWC in those days ;)

But I get your point, it's in the conference now.

Here is another article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette re: the Brautigam hires...with some interesting comments...
http://gazetteonline.com/sports/2009/12/07/brautigam-takes-over-at-cornell

He sat out the 2009 season but is raring to get back at it, even if it's at a school that has enjoyed very little success since joining the Iowa Conference in 1998.In fact, Cornell is talking about forming a new conference, which Brautigam said he understands and would support.

He said he will retain the entire assistant coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Don Dicus and defensive coordinator Adam Eichhorn, who just completed their first seasons at the school.

Maybe Brautigam was hired because he was the first coach that thought leaving for a less competitive conference was a good idea ;D ;D ;D  I kid, I kid...I promise to stop talking about Cornell leaving the IIAC.

Agreed! 10 straight losses will do that to a rivalry.  ;D
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

I think you're talking about Thurness. I think Thurny spent some time at Cornell too.

Kohawk Krazy

Don't forget about Zach Pfantz.  Played at Coe, coached at Coe, then spent a year coaching high school and is now at Central.

DBQ1965

doolittledog is right about Coe not being in the IIAC back in the day.

And CaLiRamRL6 also is right about Thurness and not Furness.

Mea culpa!

William Penn was the same way with Central before they left and most of their losses were brutal.

Hey, AZDutchman, still want to swap weather conditions?  I would trade you in a heart beat.  How's your son like it outside today, don't let him stay home when break ends. ;)

I really don't need a "white all the way up to Christmas" and I'm dreaming of the Caribbean.
