Watching the replay over and over again, Jones made a textbook tackle. What wouldn't have happened in today's football world is that Hodapp would have played the next week after getting knocked out.

Airborne, where would I be able to see this hit?  I have heard about this hit many times over the previous years, but have not seen it.

Always is an interesting time of year with coaches leaving one place for another.

Best win had to be either Homecoming 2000 because of the crazy comeback or the ice house keg/we bound beaver for fun shirts at the "huddle" or 2003 back to back thumpings of Central/Bethel

Worst Loss:  Linfield 03---horrible

Should say "we pound beaver for fun" not "bound beaver for fun"....although, I guess that would have made for an entire different type of t-shirt and/or theme  ;D

Best win...
When one played in the middle of the previous century thoughts go to games without facemasks and Riddell helmets that scared ones nose.

Best win was Luther vs Western Illinois in 1955.  There were two divisions in college football..University (Big 10 etc) and "small college" (WI was considered small college).  Western Ill. was the dominant team in the midwest and had a team of transfers from U of Illinois. Luther was invited to play in the "Corn Bowl" at WI.  The IIAC rep had 2 coaches, Western had 8.  Luther had 50 players, Western 100.

First half Luther scored 3 TD and lead 21-0.  Western stormed back in the second half with 2 TD and a field goal.  So 21-17.

The story our QB later tells is that Western Ill was cursing and swearing on every play and the refs called repeated penalties for "unsportsman-like conduct" that stalled Westerns final drive.  He had reminded the refs that Luther had a bunch of pre-seminary students playing!!

Luther 21, Western Ill. 17  Western Illinois fired their President and coaching staff !

Not sure which is more noteworthy: that oldNorese actually remembers this game, or that Luther hasn't had anything that would qualify as a "best win" since the Eisenhower administration!

Does the Rock Bowl count? ;D

GoCentral, good to see you on the board. Not sure of where you could see this hit other than calling up the athletic department at Central and asking to see the video of the 2002 game, lol.

Two now-defunct bowl games a couple generations ago vs. five IIAC titles in the last eleven years?  I think I like where Wartburg stands.  Remind me again when Luther's last conference title was.

You have to understand, Sportswipes idea of football history dates back to Madden 2004. How else to you explain his version of the best win in the Knight dynasty, as being a win over a Midwest conference team last year. The same MWC team Loras held to 200 yards of offense earlier in the season.

To whom Loras still managed to lose to.
NKD: "We need a f**king touchdown, excuse my French"
FBD: "I didn't know touchdown was French."

If you were at that game, you'd understand why it was such a great win for Wartburg's program.  If you were at the game oldNorse mentioned, you'd probably be dead by now.

Oh my ... I was in my first year of high school football when that game was played.

Oh boy.  Ancient history, my favorite subject.  Central's greatest win was 10-8 to beat Ithaca for the 1974 National Championship.  The worst loss was 14-0 to William Penn in 1892, which is the first game the media guide shows.  If I had been Central's president back in 1892 I would have said, "Losing to William Penn is just too humiliating.  We won't be playing anymore football around here."

Best Win: Luther over Central 2004. Probaly one the best football games I have ever seen/been apart of, was a member of the team but didnt play much that game. Not only was it FREEZING  that day, it was homecoming, the first win over central in years, if I remember correctly 12 or 13 years. Also first win in a streak of 4 straight. Game went into DBL OT, with game winning TD scored on last possession. At one point we were down 10 in the fourth. Then we scored ten unaswered to tie it up at 17, all 17 points were scored in the fourth. Taking it into overtime. It was a packed house, so if you've ever been to decorah on a Saturday in carlson stadium on a packed house, the atomosphere was electric!!! Best win IMOH

I can't recall if I watched that game on the computer or listened to the webcast. (Must be oldtimers setting in.) It was a great finish. Unlikely, and aided by terrible clock management and play calling down the stretch. But best win? After beating UWSP on the same field that they had earlier beat Whitewater on, it would have been a bad loss if they hadn't won. If the Knights start Boom and play the same pressure defense from the beginning that they played in the 2nd half, that game is just a footnote in the season.
At any rate, just because it isn't "noteworthy" to you, doesn't make it any less important to others.

I can see a day...20 years in the future perhaps...in the middle of the winter.  There will be a question asked on here about what was the best game you ever saw from your favorite IIAC team.  Sportsknight, or someone from this era will mention the Monmouth game from 2008.  There will then be some young punk Dubuque fan make comments about ancient history and how he will take the 7 conference titles over the last 10 years the Spartans have won over that relic of a program that the Knights have become...it could happen ;D ;D ;D

By the way, Central has 29 conference football titles.  Don't Luther, Simpson, and Wartburg all have right about the same number???  Like right around 12 or so???
