Looks like GVSU is becoming Wartburg North.

I think Reed Hoskins has the potential to be a good OC. I hope he gets a look.

Wait a minute...isn't GVSU's HC a Cornell grad...and isn't Wartburg's HC a Cornell grad?

Seems to me Wartburg is North Mount Vernon.

:D

But something happens once they leave Mt. V, they learn how to WIN games.  ;D ;D ;D
I see the jokes are flowing today. Coe's SID still gives me crap about not coaching this year. He's quick to point out that if I would've stayed, I could've evened my record to 4-4 in the Coe-Cornell series.

Any Iowa kids announce their "committment" to any IIAC teams this week?

Here how an asst. coach explained it to me.
First a kid does NOT get a D1 scholly
Then not offered to walk on @ D1
Then does NOT get D2 scholly
Then does NOT get NAIA scholly
Then waits to see how their 2 or 3 favorite D3 schools financial aid packages compare.

Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

The kid who thinks it through would probably have your final three steps all on the same plain  Very few NAIA schools in Iowa compare to the NCAA D3 institutions. An athletic scholarship at our only D2 institution is no prize either.

Remember a quality education is like quality oats.  You can always find cheaper oats if you don't care whether or not they've already been through the horse.

OK, he has been in exile long enough.  I think Lance Harbor should return to Wartburg as OC.

Listened to Harry Smith interviewing Pierre Garcon this morning.  Way to go Harry, plugging DIII football at Central College and Mount Union at the end.  Always good to be mentioned on national television before students start making their final decisions.   :)

I like it when they get the D1 offers and still come to Central.    ;D  Dustin Baethke ring a bell?

Details? I have a hard time believing a kid with D1 offers, which are all full scholarships, would decline to play at a DIII school.

Not all DI scholarships are a full ride. Some are partial, some only pay for books, ect...
And, he played for four years at Central while only would have played maybe 1 or 2 at iowa or iowa state, if at all.

It does happen.  You look to Vern Den Herder.  He was recruited by Nebraska and ISU.  One school wanted him for basketball, the other wanted him for football.  He chose Central because they told him he could play BOTH sports.

Jermar Jackson had some D1 offers as well as mostly D2 offers.  None of them wanted him to play QB.  They all wanted him to play fullback or DB.  Dubuque told him he could play QB and would stand a good chance of being a 4 year starter so he chose D3.  Orlando Walton did take the D1 offer and started 5 games as a freshman at Central Michigan.  He then transferred to UD.  It had nothing to do with grades, he said that he almost came to UD out of high school but took the scholarship.  After realizing he would be happier at Dubuque than playing D1 football...and he had the talent to be a starter, it wasn't a case of being a bench warmer and deciding to transfer down to get playing time...he transferred to UD and played football and ran track.

D1-A...or FBS, is 85 full scholarships.

D1-AA...or FCS is 63 scholarships to be divided up among 85 players.  So there are many partial scholarships at that level...which is technically D1.

Since it is the off season.  I will post some info that is somewhat IIAC football related.

With D3 being non-scholarship, the better the finantial health of an institution, the more aid they will be able to offer.  Leading to the possibility of being able to bring in a higher caliber of athlete...and hopefully student ;)

Or in Mark Brunell's case, 1 year before retirement...
Isn't everyone generally unemployed during retirement - isn't that the essential part of the process, not having to go to work anymore?
