Thanks guys, I thought it was Omaha.  Looks like a 2 hour drive or so.

It may be a two hour drive in good weather....in this weather, plan to double your time on the road. Welcome to winters in Iowa.  ;D

That's good information on Wartburg College of Waverly   :D
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Oh crap, I get to see Dubuque play @ Wartburg on their homecoming.

Bad news is it won't be easy to sneak into a Waverly restaurant that day to grab some grub :'(

Good news is, I might be able to find some posters on here and graze at their tailgate ;D

Pretty risky venture scheduling the Spartans for Homecoming. These aren't your Spartans of old my friends....

It will be interesting to see how far the Spartans have come.  If they beat WB at WB's homecoming, I will try to keep the tears in check.   ;D ;D ;D

Ultimately...although D3 players are getting better and better...only a fraction of them are really pro prospects.  That's why they are in D3 for the most part.

That said, the opportunities for a D3 kid to get a look are better than they ever have been.  When guys like London Fletcher, Pierre Garcon, Andy Studebaker and Jerhume Urban turn up in Pro Rosters...it just inspires scouts to beat those bushes harder.

I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Iowa conference is well represented in latest wrestling polls.  5 teams in top 20

Wartburg  2nd,
Coe          3rd,
Cornell     8th,
Luther      12th,
Dubuque  20th

Wartburg goes for 18th straight title next week @ BV. Coe and Cornell host National meet March 5 +6 @ US Cellular in CR.

Wartburg picked to win FB championship last fall, Central won it.  Wartburg picked to win men's basketball championship, Central won it after finishing tied for 5th place last year.  Central has a way to go in wrestling, but a few years ago we had a ways to go in men's bb too.  Watch out WB, we are coming after you!    ;D ;D ;D

Dubuque and Cornell fans, there is hope, with the right coach and enough time, you can take a team to the top of the conference.  It was a fun night in Pella last night and your time may be coming.

Every dog has his day I think the saying goes.  What else is there...what goes up, must come down.

While admiring the run Wartburg is on right now...in EVERY sport.  I take comfort with the thought that on February 10th 1980, Wartburg had the fewest conference football titles of ANY school in the conference.  Fewer than Dubuque, Upper Iowa, and William Penn.  Also on this date in 1980, Dubuque was a 2 time defending conference champion and the next fall the Spartans would become 3 time defending conference champions.  Nothing is permanent in this world.  Wartburg were not always a top team in the conference.  Nothing says Dubuque or Cornell can't rise up the standings.  Central, with about a 50 year run now at the top of the conference, is a remarkable story though.

One thing I cannot figure out though is how Dubuque beats Cornell but Cornell is still ranked higher? I think there is a little bit of politics involved in these rankings. Dubuque finished somewhere around 12th in the nation last season and didn't lose anyone significant and yet is ranked at best 20th this season even when they beat teams ranked higher  ???  ???

Simple answer. Politics.

Tons of credit to Coach Schipper for that run of success and building the foundation.  Many of the current assistant coaches started out under his regime as either a coach or player or both and support the head coach to keep that success here.   We have a lot of consistency, but every so often we fall out of the top spot, if we can't do it, no reason someone other than Wartburg can't take our place.  Just so those opportunities are rare.   ;) ;) ;)

The Jack Ohle revenge game.  I guess that probably means that Captain Jack will return to Waverly on 9/10/11.  Mark your calendars now.
