Luther College is considering partnering with the City of Decorah to build an aquatic center.  In exchange for their participation, the City of Decorah would be given greater access to gym space, the pool and raquetball courts.  There may also be some redevelopment of College property into community softball diamonds and soccer fields.

I'd really like to hear from the Wartburg followers how the College, Community and/or Students feel about the Waverly-Wartburg Wellness Center (aka the W).

All is not fair in love and wrestling!  Jon McGovern, a Central grad, coaching at UD?  Blasphemy!  I thought having Jen Walker at WB doing volleyball was bad enough!  At least your schools know where to find great coaches.    ;D ;D ;D

Did you forget former All IIAC Tennis coach Bryan Mours is now leading the UD Tennis programs  ;D

Barring some sort of total implosion it appears Augsburg will be the 2010 NCAA D3 Wrestling Champions.  It looks now to be a battle for second place between UW-LAX, Wartburg and Coe.  Interesting meet so far.  Some high seeded wrestlers made early exits from the championship contention.  I was particularly sorry about the Dubuque kid.  He just sort of fell into a fall.  I thought up until it happened he was in control.  It was just bad luck.

Heys, you should remember the wrestler in this picture. It looks like Rehn is still rockin his headgear from Vista HS.

Let's give it to the IIAC for 5 teams in the top 12 in the nation. Pretty incredible and makes you proud to be affilated with such a competitive conference. And a special congrats to the Spartan Wrestlers for an 8th place finish. I believe the best finish ever. As Warthog mentioned, Josh Terrell was unlucky and got caught in a fall but wow, amazing to wrestle all the way back and beat carrington from wartburg and the guy that beat him to win 3rd place! That is absolutely a feat! Congrats! I know Evan is disappointed with losing in the finals but should be proud of his 2nd place finish.

Great season and look for more improvement in 2011!

Willie is right, the IIAC had a strong show ing at the NCAA D3 Wrestling Tournament.  I had a good time, it was two days well spent.  We sat for all four sessions in an area with a nice family of Coe fans, parents of a Heidleberg wrestler, two crusty old guys from CR, a Concordia fan who lived in Fargo ND and a high school wrestling team that came to watch the college kids go at it.  Everyone was pleasant and we caught ourselves cheering for the other folks' team when they weren't wrestling one of our own.
My favorite wrestler to watch was Isaac Dukes of Case Western.  He was fun to watch because he was a little unorthodox and he kept scrapping in every match.  It seemed he was always coming from behind to win.  It shows what guts and determination can do.  He won a national title.
My favorite coaches to watch were once again the staff from U of Dubuque.  They were wearing nice suits, but I guarantee they'll need to go to the dry-cleaners when the Spartans get back to the Key City.  These guys get a real workout when they coach.
My least favorite thing was when some doofus from Augsburg thought he had to shout someting during the presentation of the colors.  It was absoluely silent in the facility as the colors were presented, until this a-hole screams out.  I don't know what he yelled, but it was classless behavior.  That action made me very happy Augsburg didn't win any individual titles.  I cheered like a 6 year old at a soccer game every time their guys would get beat in the finals.  Sorry I judge the whole bunch on one bad banana, but it just made me mad.

I do remember Seth Rehn...and his wife the former Kelsie Emerick.  Mrs. Rehn swims for the 'hacks.  Good to see the Panthers representing in the IIAC!  Coe has a 3rd VHS grad, Kyle Woods, is a freshman wrassler.

I'm curious to your thoughts on recruiters and the recruiting process (D 1-3)? I don't want to elaborate on my thoughts on the subject (yet). I'm looking for more of the family side, not the college side.  :)

AZD ... this probably is not what you are looking for, but your question brought to mind an experience I had with UD back the year I graduated.  I was working for the Admissions Department that Spring and Summer and got sent on what turned out to be a very awkward "admissions visit" to a high school senior and bball player in Wisconsin.  Turns out he was a highly sought-after recruit and ended up as a starter (but not his freshman year) for the Badgers.  I found out later that I was sent to visit him to keep a big UD donor happy ... not because we had a chance in hell at ever seeing him on campus ... and it was a very uncomfortable feeling talking to him and his parents in  their living room.

I can only give you an opinion on D3 recruiting for the most part. Let us know what you are looking for and we'll try to help.

It will be interesting to hear what the differences are in the recruitment of in-state kids vs. out-of-state kids.
