BTW I don't think I'm doing a bracket this year. I've watched about 5 minutes of college BB this season and most of that was on WB's webcast. I knew I was in trouble when I kept looking for North Carolina on the bracket.

snoop dawg

I was rooting so hard for N. Iowa to beat the J's...   When Ali took that shot i was yelling noooooooooooo, then .......Yesssssss!  What a great game.

I will be in Storm Lake with my son in a few weeks, any eating suggestions?

Snoop,

Martini's is your best bet - lots of good sandwiches and the steaks are pretty good.  Not sure how long you'll be in town, but the other good choices would be Plaza Mexico, Honey Kissed Pizza, or Boz Wellz (you can also order food from Boz Wellz at Lake Avenue Lounge, a nice little bar overlooking downtown Storm Lake).  You might also try La Juanita's, the Boathouse, or Legacy Steakhouse.  Really most anywhere is pretty decent, but I would avoid the Regatta Grille at the resort.  The food there is OK, but you can find better elsewhere for less money.  There are also a few newer ethnic restaurants I haven't tried but I've heard are good.  Nothing fancy, but authentic.  Got any other questions, let me know.
When it's 3rd and 10, you can take the milk drinkers, and I'll take the whiskey drinkers every time.

I've always been hesitant to make the road trip to Storm Lake because of the distance.  But that list of dining choices has me thinking a road trip to see the Beavers during the 2011 season would be a very good idea!!!

No computers at work mean I get to come home and look up meaningless IIAC facts.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman take the wayback machine to March 23rd 1980.

The IIAC started football in 1923.  Took two seasons off during WWII so they had just finished their 55th season of conference football the previous fall.  High school seniors finalizing their college choices and planning on playing a little football in the IIAC while pursuing their degree take of look at the current schools in the conference and the conference titles each school has in football.

Central - 11 titles...last title in '78
Luther - 11 titles...last title in '78
Simpson - 8 titles...last title in '69
Upper Iowa - 6 titles...last title in '64
Dubuque - 5 titles...last title in '79
Buena Vista - 4 titles...last title in '78
William Penn - 4 titles...last title in '76
Wartburg - 3 titles...last title in '68

For those brave souls that choose Wartburg, they are choosing the school with the fewest conference titles of any school in the conference and only 1 school (Upper Iowa) has gone longer since their last title.  But Wartburg is known more as a basketball school.  Not a football school!!!  For those kids that did pick the Knights, they would leave 4 years later winning conference titles in their junior and senior years.  Laying the ground work for an improved Wartburg that we see today.

After Mr. Peabody and Sherman return to the present day, they marvel at how much Wartburg has changed in the past 30 years.  The Wartburg campus has many new buildings and amazing athletic facilities.  The Knights are conference powers in pretty much every sport.  They suspect most people under the age of 35 will have no idea of the transformation that has taken place for the Knights football team over the past 3 decades.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman decide to take the wayback machine to March 23rd 1990.

They note that Loras rejoined the conference in 1986, after taking 31 years off from the IIAC.  They also notice that Central had a very good decade, winning 7 football titles.  Wartburg took 2 titles.  While Dubuque and Simpson each won 1 title.

High school seniors in March of 1990 could look up conference football titles and it looked like this.

Central - 18 titles
Luther - 11 titles
Simpson - 9 titles
Dubuque - 6 titles
Upper Iowa - 6 titles
Wartburg - 5 titles
Buena Vista - 4 titles
William Penn - 4 Titles
Loras - 0 titles

Mr. Peabody and Sherman are having fun.  This time they take the wayback machine not all that wayback and go back 10 years.  To March 23rd, 2000.

They note that Doolittle is 2 days away from his wedding day ;D  Coe and Cornell left the Midwest Conference and played their first conference schedule in 1998.  They also notice that while Central once again had a good decade, Simpson and Wartburg also had a good decade.  Dubuque and William Penn had awfull decades.  Most of the rest of the schools had an average decade.  For those high school seniors taking a look at who the top schools were in the conference.  They now had this tool called the "internet" that didn't exist 10 years earlier to look up these stats :o

Central - 23 titles
Simpson - 12 titles
Luther - 11 titles
Wartburg - 7 titles
Dubuque - 6 titles
Upper Iowa - 6 titles
Buena Vista - 4 titles
William Penn - 4 titles
Coe - 0 titles
Cornell - 0 titles
Loras - 0 titles

Well!  I guess there's no doubt where Dudley Do-Right would send his kids.

The more things change the more they stay the same.   :) :) :)

Happy 10th anniversary Doolittle!  Take the wife somewhere awesome for dinner, maybe she will forget to rub in how much better she is doing with her picks.

Central Alum Harry Smith did pretty good with his Top 10 list on Letterman last night.  Nice delivery!
