Drove from Omaha to Storm Lake today.  Never saw soooooo much farmland in my life.  The only time Ive seen that much open space was traveling through the California desert.   The weather is beautiful.  Where does everyone live? ;)

You hear me cluckin' ?

Don't get me wrong, I loved football and all the time spent preparing for the season, but if the purpose of D3 is to continue to be the "purest" level, have football be played in just the fall.

As a former D3'er, I was in school to play football, amongst many other things. I know of some D3 schools where a small % of kids even go to offseason workouts.
I don't like that they allow spring ball now. If these guys wanted to be fulltime football players they would go NAIA or get a $300 scholarship at a D2. It makes sense at D1 where they are getting 25-30k/year to play, but not when guys are paying that much.

Come back for RAGBRAI in July. We'll give you a great idea of what small town Iowa is all about. It's all about the corn fields, pies, and trademark Iowa hospitality.... city folk like yourself really get into that stuff.  ;)

So far Iowa hospitality has been great and is genuine. I am very impressed.

There is no moment quite like an evening in Iowa's rolling farmland when the sun's setting rays are coming in almost horizontally and everything from rickety old barns (some might even have faint remnants of a "Redman" ad) to Aermotor windmills to Harvestore silos and concrete corn cribs to fields filled with corn and soybeans are all lit up with a golden aura that is unlike anything in all of creation.

It's great to have an Iowa connecton!!!

OK thanks...I'm bringing my umbrella, hard hat and galoshes.  Hope I can find a good bar to watch Tiger win lose the Masters.

Corrected it for you!!

Do NOT eat ANYTHING that came out of STORM LAKE! Even the locals are smart enough not to do that. The lake looks nice but word is.....don't drink, don't swim, and definitely do not eat out of it!

Really?   There were tons of guys fishing and they have a water park that uses the lake so I cant imagine it being that bad.  I will do some research tho.  I saw a couple good sized walleye on stringers.

I hope you're joking because that is complete and utter BS.
When it's 3rd and 10, you can take the milk drinkers, and I'll take the whiskey drinkers every time.

Agreed. Complete BS.

In January of 2009 Robert F Kennedy Jr. gave a talk at Wartburg.  My son was forced to attend because of a class he was taking but did it under protest.  Kennedy said that every waterway in the state of Iowa was polluted to the point that none of the fish were safe to eat.

Gotta love indoctrination.  >:(

Yeah, on Saturday the Storm Lake Times  had an article about a commercial fisherman who was in town netting carp and other rough fish to ship to New York.  Kind of amusing that the drivel above got posted just two days later.  I'm gonna go ahead and guess the DNR wouldn't be granting a commercial fishing permit if the fish were unfit for consumption.  It's amazing the crap uninformed people come up with based on what they hear from a friend of a friend of a cousin who knows a guy who.......blah blah blah.

"Even the locals are smart enough" not to believe everything they hear from people who don't know what they're talking about.
