I've decided to forego my senior years and declare myself eligible for the NBA draft.

:D

NBA scouts will drool over a 50 year old with bad knees and a 5 inch verticle ;)

BTW, I can still stick the NBA 3   8-)

My defense has fallen off over the years.   :P

So Heys, I didn't pick Cornell to finish at the bottom, or at least not alone at the bottom.  So how are the mixed feelings about that.  Great, they get credit for having won a conference game last year!  Or, sure, now that Jr. has graduated they pick Cornell to show improvement?  The question is, can they do it without Jr?  I'm giving them credit for the coach wanting to prove something.  I bet that date with UD is circled on the calendar for the next several years.  It may not happen this year, but give it time.

Any opinions on how competitive BV will be next year?  Are they usually a tough game despite their record.

BV is a tough game pretty much every year.  In years when they go 3-5 in conference play they are are about 3 plays away from going 6-2.  In years when they go 6-2 in conference play they are about 3 plays away from being a 3-5 team.  Nobody can take the week off against BV...ask Wartburg the last two years ;)

Last year BV was 3-5 in the IIAC.  The year before they were 6-2.  Over the last 4 years they were 16-16.

I am doing my Kentucky Derby handicapping and I see that one of the likely contenders, Paddy O'Prado, is owned by Donegal Racing, a partnership full of Iowans.  There are reports that Paddy O'Prado turned in an impressive workout on a muddy track at Churchill Downs today and it looks like Saturday could be a wet one in Louisville so people who blog about these things are saying he is one to watch.  I would like to see a horse with Iowa connections do well except the guy who runs the partnership is named Jerry Crawford and he was born in Indianola.  We all know that nothing good can come out of Indianola (I kid I kid!).  He has said he will give his share of any winnings to Macalester College.  All of my winnings will go to the Fannosaurus Rex Retirement Fund.

Congratulations to Des Moines for being named #1 Best Place For Business and Careers by Forbes.

And Iowa City topped some other Forbes list in the past few weeks.  Nice to see.

As for the Kentucky Derby...I can't wait.  There are at least two Mint Julips with my name on them.  And the women at our party are having a "best derby hat" contest.  Should be a fun time.  I can guarantee my mom will have a tear in her eye as they sing "My old Kentucky Home"

And then once we are into May...it's almost time for fall camp and a new season of college football ;D

All right, let's see.  A few questions for IIAC fans.

What was the name of the Parsons College sports teams?  Did anyone in the conference consider them a rival?

Simpson somewhat recently changed their name to the Storm from the Redmen.  Are there any other schools that have changed their sports teams names over the years?

I know that before UD held a vote to become the Spartans in the early 1930's they had been informally called both the Bulldogs and more often referred to as the Blue and White.

Not that I'm on here much anyway, but that has kept me pretty busy the last several weeks.

Central changed from the Flying Dutchman to the Dutch.  Flying Dutchman was the name of a super speedy slave ship.  Dutch is more appropriate, though some are still super speedy!

DBQ1965

Parsons College Wildcats ... colors were green and white.  Because of proximity, their big rival might have been Iowa Wesleyan.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

If they truly embraced their Dutchiness, then they'd wear wooden cleats.    :D

Part of the advantage of having a theological seminary on your campus is the football coaches and players can crash the seminary spring shindig bbq!!!

The story goes that this is part of UD trying to entice DBQ1965 to come back to UD....free food, free admission to UD sporting events...the seminary now offers classes for UCC seminarians as well as Presbyterians...that kind of stuff.  Though it seems DBQ1965 and family are happy in semi-retirement in Michigan ;)
