Come on, Klompen, I know you -- it's not like you know the recipe for dirt or anything! You're as young as you feel.  ;)
A pessimist is a man who feels that all women are bad. An optimist hopes so.

How do you know it was Coach B's move? Maybe administration wanted it? Sometimes you have to do what your boss(es) want. I am not sure how I would feel about it if I were him. He has been a head coach for what, almost 20 years?? Why does he need a "special assistant"?? Maybe it was a strategic move planned all along?? Maybe knowing his wife was going to retire and he as well but he wanted to get back involved with the football program (as a retirement job) and not full time gig with all of the recruiting responsibilities as well.

My conspiracy theory says it was planned before the hiring of Coach B and announced long after. Obviously they don't want to take the focus off of the HC hire but want to generate some more alumni enthusiasm and support for the program. This was strategic all the way.......... ;)
Maybe, maybe not.  A coach who is confident in his own abilities and smart enough to recognize the challenge ahead should not feel threatened by having a successful coach along side him to help turn the program around.  The assistants they have had were not getting the job done.  Central has been successful bringing retired successful head coaches to help as assistants.  Ours came from the HS ranks, but they were successful in their former positions.  It worked well for us.

I can remember all kinds of things from reading about them.   ;)

Some, like watching Vern Den Herder play for Central, I can remember in real life, though I didn't understand much about football until he went pro and the color guys explained everything in slow motion.   ;D ;D ;D  Old and slow, what is this world coming to?

DBQ1965 - This year alone seemed like 10.  Sadly retirement is still multiples away from 3 years and the way my retirement funds are going up and down, it might be multiples away from 10 years... :'( :'( :'(

I felt pretty young until the powers that be decided a young consultant knew more about my job than I did.   ??? ??? ???

They were wrong.   :o :o :o

I will feel younger when football rolls around.  Central football always gets me into a crazy kid mood, cheering like a typical Dutch fanatic.

My point being......this was a strategic move by the college. Not saying good or bad, just smart enough to read between the lines.

You're entitled to your opinion, which is fair.  You're flat out wrong...But it's your right to express yourself regardless as to whether you have any facts or not.

This move was made by Coach B. (fact) and its a solid decision (my opinion).  I learned of this fact from folks who have direct knowledge and I based my opinion on that fact.

My opinion is that the Cornell AD or the College are not at odds with their Head Football Coach, and certainly are not forcing staff on him for whatever reason.  These folks are on the same page as to their desire to build a successful program within the parameters of how they go about their business.

Those parameters are not the same for every school...each has their own priorities...I'd like to think we can all respect that.

You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

Story lines I will be interested to see play out:

The DBQ:  What kind of numbers will Michael Zweifel put up without Colton Hansen?  What's the word from Spartytown on who will be playing catch with young Mr. Zweifel?

Ko-Hacks:  Who will fill the LB's shoes of Thomas, Harrison, and Yeast (the Beast).  That's over 300 tackles!

Wartburg:  How does life after Yordi look?

The heir apparent is sophomore-to-be Wyatt Hanus.  A former 1A 1st team All-State QB...just like Colton Hansen.  He is from my wifes alma mater, North Tama High School...so he must be a good guy ;D

All signs point to Mr. Hanus being a seasoned 3 year starter his senior year when he could get the chance to toss the football around to some freshman kid from the San Diego area named Heys Rev. 3  :D :D :D

Why so defensive PH  ??? I didn't say the decision was good or bad  ??? But realize, even if Coach B hired him, doesn't mean it wasn't a suggested hire. Regardless, I never once said he was at any odds with the AD or college so not sure where you got that from  ??? Just my opinion was it seemed very strategic to lace the "old" with the "new". And strategy is a good thing if it works!!

Speaking of strategy, I hear some great strategic moves are coming the Spartans way!! Stay tuned once all is confirmed. Wouldn't want to throw out any non-factual rumors of course  ;D

Speaking of old...My daughter asked me if she could take my old trumpet to school today to show during music class.  While showing her the trumpet I found in the case a sheet of paper that had my Pep Band schedule - Fall, 1989 on it ::)

Apparently we practiced at Westminster church tuesdays at 4pm and then met at Chalmers at 12:30 for the 1pm start to the games.

UD home games for 1989 were...
Sept  9th  Iowa Wesleyan 22-19 win
Sept 16th Loras 7-10 loss
Sept 30th Simpson 32-63 loss...ouch
Oct.  21st  Wartburg...Homecoming AND a 32-15 win!!!
Nov.   1st  Central 14-52...Central were conference champs that year

A 2-3 home schedule that year, 4-6 overall, and 3-5 in conference play

Spurrier

All my students are taking AP exams today so I am left in my classroom day-dreaming about college football. . . here is today's question?

What bowl game will the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Spurrier family be attending this year?

We have already been to the Orange and the Sugar. . .where in the world will the Spurrier family spend the holidays this year?

Warthog,

Just a note to pre-empt your lame attempt at humor. . .we will not be spending the holidays at the "toilet bowl"
Why the defense ain't werkin'?

Spurrier, I forgot that your son was a UC Bearcat.....did you hear their radio ad campaign last season? (I get really tired of Ohio State, so these spots really amused me. :)
