Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

I'd be glad to see Luther win.  They have the best hitters in the IIAC.  But I have nothing against Linfied, but a friendly rivalry.  After all, SOME of us have only won against them.   ;)  (Thank you to the NCAA scheduling guru, for not pairing us up in the years we would have gotten clobbered.) :D

Luther and Linfield had a fine game today even though Linfield won, 4-3.  All runs by homers on both sides.

Luther has Ithaca tomorrow at 11 AM.

I wouldn't call Bob Fello a gypsy. He has coached for 35 years and coached at 8 prominent collegiate programs.

Kent State
Kansas
TCU
Kansas State
James Madison University
SMU
The Citadel
Marshall

That would be an average of 4.4 years per program. The AVERAGE number of jobs ANY ONE PERSON in the US will have in their career is 7. You figure most people work for roughly 40 years after college. 40 divided by 7= 5.7 years per employer.

I would say he is just slightly under the national average so gypsy is not a fair statement.

Most importantly, look at his experience and success. It speaks for itself. Obviously, you would not probably hire him as your HEAD coach if you were looking for a long term commitment. However, he is not the head coach but an extremely experienced, knowledgable, and talented COMPLIMENT to him. We already know what Coach Z is capable of from a strategic position on offense. Coach Fello and current D-Coordinator Lance Taylor just strengthen the defense and Coach Fello's expertise in Special Teams....well, let's just say that could be a difference maker.

From what I know, he had many other offers and all from Div 1 programs. But, as he mentioned, being able to coach with long time friends is something rare and special and my OPINION is, at a certain point in a persons career, that experience means more then what level you coach at.

Do you remember Joe Austin? UD's former Offensive coordinator that put in the spread offense and was a KEY strategic hire in helping UD to back to back winning seasons. Why was he hired knowing that this was not going to be his "last" stop in his coaching career? Everyone knew he wasn't going to be here long term. But, he filled a void that we needed at the time to become successful. He helped Jarmar reach his potential by putting him and the offense in the position to be successful. Joe at that point in his career was more of a "gypsy" then Bob Fello. Joe's "average" was about 3 years per employer.

Hiring someone like Bob Fello is also a smart strategic move. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that any smart coach would want to learn from. Even if he is only with the Spartans for 1 year, 2 years or his "average" of 4.4 years, I will take whatever length of time he is willing to be a Spartan coach over NOT having him on staff anyday!!!
