Even though I hear unconfirmed reports out of Waverly that the Wartburg quarterback issue has been more than adequately addressed, I'll agree with everything DutchHawk said.  A conservative prediction would be that the conference champion will come from the past decade's top three teams (Central, Coe, Wartburg) with the 2nd & 3rd spots being filled by the two that aren't 1st.

If the new football super conferences end up weakening the NCAA, how will this impact the future of D3 athletics?  Like it or not, I assume D3 is not self sufficient.  Perhaps the NAIA isn't dead after all.

doolittledog:

Mrs. Warthog takes care of most tailgating recipes for Warthog pre-game events.  The one recipe I handle is as follows:

Ingredients:
1 - Coleman cooler
1 - 20 pound bag of ice
4 - six packs of Hub City Golden Ale

Preparation:
Open cooler and arrange bottles of Hub City evenly in the bottom.  Cover with ice and allow to cool for 2 hours 20 minutes. (This is coincidently how long it takes to get from our house to Walston Hoover Stadium)

Serve in orange or black Solo brand cups.

For early season night games I recommend doubling the recipe.

Willie University

Taking after 5 words or less.......After the rain let up this afternoon, the wife and a few friends took the boat out on the mississippi and went to the Julien Dubuque Regatta. All I can say is wow, brought back memories of spring break when I was in college..............and made me realize how old I am and how my tolerance for drunk 21 year olds has lessoned  8-)

The beer was cold and the weather was warm..made for a nice afternoon.

A Big Hello to Everyone!
It's been awhile.

Went back and read through some of the pages I missed. Scholarships, letter of intents, rankings, tailgate recipes, a little trash talk and politics. The last post I put up was a mixture of politics and sports, but we'll just leave that alone seeing I'm from the state of Arizona. It was recommended that I remove the post and that's what I did. So I'll just stick to some football.

We had a little taste of football yesterday. ASU hosted the passing league and big man competitions yesterday. Even though ASU is trying to look as the friendly college to host a friendly competition between all the high school teams, their coaches were on the ball with their eyes wide open looking for recruits. My sons team did well. They came in third.

I had a son graduate from Columbia University this year. He had one more year of eligibility, but he decided to hang the cleats up. He was a little banged up and had worked through many injuries going back into high school. His experience in playing college ball is one that I think he will enjoy for years to come.

August and football are around the corner. My son made the decision to stay out there in Iowa. Smart boy, it's going to get hotter than hot soon. Already hit the 110degrees, but for some reason we're having a cool down. I just may move to Iowa myself. Seeing that in the latest poles, Iowa was ranked the number 1 place to live and raise a family.

Even though time goes faster than fast, I can't wait for the football season to begin.  I do miss the introductory of the IIAC comments/trash talk that I had in my first season on the D3board. I did bow to Mr. Warthog during the friendly cross trash talk that we had with each other during the Pre Central-Wartburg game. His cunning words came faster than I could type a response equal to his, but don't count me out this season.

So I leave all of you now with a thought till our next meeting....
Why does Wartburg have their recruits sign a 'letter of intent'?
They want to see if he at least has the ability to write his name!

AZDutch,
Congrats to your son on his graduation. I know, since we went through the same thing here, that shutting it down isn't easy. I hope he is successful in the future.

Speaking of FK, what a summer to be working for ISU football. Althougn he is working his a** off, he's loving it. Matter of fact, he's working ISU's 7on7 passing competition right now. It's been interesting getting his take on what is happening in the Big12. He's hearing a lot of things, but no one there has too much insight on what is happening, although there doesn't seem to be any panic going on. This would lead me to believe that there is a plan in place if the conference does implode.

Actually if the kid has a fast 40 time, owns a great vertical leap and can bench press a VW Bug we don't care about his ability to write.  An "x" will do.   :-*

How about just have the kid bench press an actual Wartburg Knight...

And all this time I didn't know that the Wartburg sports teams mascot was a car from the former Soviet Bloc  ;D

OK, I get that but what happens between tax cut now and when one can actually see improvement 5-7 years down the road? Somewhere, somehow somone has to raise taxes just to maintain the staus quo. So now my kids are going to a community college instead of the IIAC until the econmy improves and by then it's too late.

Holy Cow - I agree with FBDaddy on something!  By the way, your equal treatment example probably does not prove either way who buys athletes, anybody with a 4.0 that participates in any activity is a prized recruit most anyway.  What school would not have offered a big package to such a potential student.

To quote the George W. Bush billboard: Miss me yet?

Apparently its been 3+ months since I posted here, although I have been reading the board every now and then.  As such, here are a few thoughts on some of the topics that have been raised recently:

- Tailgating: Go out and bouy yourselves some of this stuff: http://www.kalmesseasoning.com/  They sell it Hy-Vee stores here in Dubuque, but I don't know about any other locations. Great stuff. Tastes especially good on pork and chicken. Used it on some butterfly chop sandwiches I took up to the Wartburg playoff game in Stevens Point a couple years ago, and as Walston, knightlife06, TheOne89.1, and Warthog can attest, they were pretty damn good.

- Financial aid: Here's a scenario that might make Willy U's head explode: Wartburg was actually the most expensive of the schools I was considering.  It basically came down to Wartburg, UNI, Iowa State, and Wisconsin-Platteville for me.  I got pretty good, but not great, grades in high school, but I was "awarded" a Wartburg Regent Scholarship because I pulled a good ACT score out of my ass.  Wound up paying about $8,000 a year at Wartburg.  Iowa State and UNI were state schools, so while I didn't get as much financial aid, the up-front cost wasn't as great either.  Could have gone to either for about $2,500-3,000 per year.  At UW-P, my grades got me in-state tuition, so I was looking at about five grand a year, if memory serves.  But I went to Wartburg and haven't looked back.  Given that I was one of Iowa's top broadcasting prospects coming out of high school that year, I'm a bit surprised that Wartburg didn't do more to try to "buy" me.

-Conference Expansion: OK, so maybe this hasn't gotten much discussion around here lately, but I say it's time for the Iowa Conference to be proactive and extend an invitation to Iowa State.  It sure looks like they won't be in a BCS conference much longer, so they might as well come on down to Division III so they might be able to have sustained success in sports like football, men's basketball, and baseball.  Oh, wait.

Alright, good talk.  See you guys in September.

Sounds like we need a tailgater's throw down over their favorite seasonings.  Personally I'll put the Butt Rub  (www.buttrub.com) on anything and everything PETA won't eat.
