The same could probably be said of Zweifel. In looking at his conference stats and it seems that if you take away his longest catch of the game his avarge completion is in the 7-9 yard range which probably means quick outs and the like.

It may seem that way but the actual numbers don't bare that out in 5 of 8 conference games.

Taking away his longest reception his average vs...
BV....13.9 yards/reception
Luther....15.4 yards/reception
Wartburg....12.7 yards/reception
Simpson....14.9 yards/reception
Loras....7.3 yard/reception
Coe....3.6 yards/reception
Cornell....7.8 yards/reception
Central....11.8 yards/reception

But in their 4 losses only Coe took him out of the game, which supports that Zweifel will get his yards, but unless someone else steps up, UD loses the game. That supports Spurrier's position.

Overlooked in this current string is the time spent in the WIAC by Mr. Zweifel

He's as prolific a receiver as D3 has seen in awhile.

Reflecting on this, my vote goes to Zweifel

Really??? Even though it kills me to say this, but I'll take the two boys out of Mount Union (Shorts and Garcon) over Zweifel. Zweifel will finish with some amazing stats when his career is all said and done, but Shorts and Garcon are on a different level..faster and more athletic.

Really.  Remember we are picking a 2010 D3 All-American here, not organizing an NFL Draft Board or picking sides for a pick up game...Garcon is not even in the discussion at hand, he's not an NCAA player any more.

Looking at career receiving stats only...not ability...Zweifel looks like D3 all-timer and it is probably not even close.

After 3 years, Career cumulative stats:
Michael Zweifel, 287 receptions, 3552 yards, 27 TD
Cecil Shorts, 189 receptions, 3509 yards, 45 TD

NCAA Career Top 3
#1 Scott Pingel, Westminster (MO) 1996-99            436 6108 75
#2 Blake Elliott, St. John's (MN) 2000-03                  327 4200 56
#3 Brad Duesing, Washington-St. Louis 2002-05     287 4249 36
.
.
.
#25 Pierre Garcon  Norwich/MUC      246 4,380 60

http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/football_records/D2/2009/D3.pdf

Zweifel and Short's upcoming addition to this list will drop Garcon off.  BTW - Pingel's YPC for his All-American Senior year:  12.1

Hey, don't get me wrong, if I'm recruiting a ballplayer, you'd be nuts to not rate Shorts and Garcon higher than Zweifel.  But I would say any, ANY, D3 offensive coordinator would be tickled to have Zweifel on his team and would figure out real quick how to use him.

This is all a Doolittle trick, getting me monologue-ing for a DBQ player.    :o
I'm ready to start talking Rams!

I am anxious to see how the Coach B era goes.  We have a buzzsaw of a first game with North Central.

There are many Dubuque fans that want to see Brautigam succeed at Cornell.  He is a good man and deserves some wins under his belt after building Dubuque up from the depths.

Now I am anxious for the fall rosters to come out.  See how many freshmen each school is bringing in.  Where the kids are coming from.  Who didn't come back.  All that fun stuff.

Purple Heys -- I see you decided to use catches as the sole stat to determine who are the best receivers of all time. If you use receiving yards, I dare say Pierre Garcon ranks one hell of a lot higher than 25th. :)

Trash talk time:

What is with that poll question on the D3 Football home page?  Neither Central nor Coe will win the IIAC let alone the West Region.  Plus Monmouth won't even win the first game of the season let alone the first game of the playoffs.  The voting must be rigged.

Who do you think will win the IIAC? I've heard reports from the Wartburg camp indicating that they don't even think the Knights will be in the top 2. Are you expecting a dark horse this year, perhaps?

doolittle: You would be surprised to learn that people actually come to the board and believe everything they read, even if it's from biased fans. Every once in a while I have to set the record straight.
Wait a minute!  Is he saying I can't believe everything I read on here???

You know that and I know that, but there are plenty of people who read but never post.

I believe everything I read on here.  So woo hoo...Wartburg will be down this year!!!

Now if someone will just tell me they have a keg waiting for me at their tailgate ;D

Coe finished 2nd in the conference last year but was able to make it into the D3 playoffs with a 9-1 record.  Am I correct in thinking that with Coe playing two NAIA schools for their non-con games this season that the Kohawks will have to win the IIAC in order to make the playoffs?

Pat Coleman

Doolittledoug: It certainly doesn't help their cause, that's for sure. If they went 9-1, 7-1 against regional/D3 opponents then they'd still be in the conversation, but I think they would be pretty far down the list of 1-loss Pool C teams.

I'm in the boat as thinking they have to go 10-0 to get into the playoffs, but I do have one question.  Last year they beat a 6-4 Augustana team and a 4-6 Gustavus team.  Would beating a team barely over .500 and a team under .500 be that much more of a factor than beating 2 NAIA schools?  I'm sure it is some, but how much will it play a factor?  Just wondering your opinion Pat, since you've been around these situations nationwide more than any of us.
