A great indicator of the quality of young men in the IIAC when two plavers are nominated for such a prestigous award.

Is it my imagination...or are there more night games this year?

Sept. 2 7 p.m. Rockford College @ University of Dubuque

Sept. 4 6 p.m. Coe College @ Iowa Wesleyan College
Sept. 4 7 p.m. Monmouth (Ill.) College @ Wartburg College

Sept. 11 4 p.m. Buena Vista University @ Peru State College  OK, not technically a night game ;)
Sept. 11 6 p.m. Central College @ Augustana (Ill.) College
Sept. 11 6 p.m. Cornell College @ Macalester College
Sept. 11 6 p.m. University of Dubuque @ Univ. of Wis.-Platteville

Sept. 25 6 p.m. Cornell College @ University of Dubuque

Oct. 9 6 p.m. University of Dubuque @ Loras College

Oct. 16 4 p.m. Simpson College @ University of Dubuque  By that time of year, you could call that a night game.

I actually think if most schools took the time to install lighting at their place that September games are a good time to have night games.  Homecoming games in early to mid-October made sense for a 4pm start.  After that, I think it's too cold around these parts for night games.

Dubuque gets 5 night games this year.  I'm not sure what to think of that.

It means you better increase your babysitting budget.   :)

I think it means I may get to double dip for a UD game.  Go the Wartburg then drive over to Dubuque on my way home to cheer on the Spartans.  Grandma Warthog would be proud!

What does Mrs. Warthog think of all that? ;D

I might have to join you for a weekend or two of that...if Mrs Doolittle lets me, that is!!!

Grand parents work cheap...they also tire out earlier ;D

I think we are limited to either Coe or Cornell @ UD, the UD homecoming game against Simpson, and then possibly UD @ Wartburg and UD @ Luther...depending on our kids schedules and all that stuff.

When do fall camps start?

Actually she is quite a sport when it comes to going to games.  We have been doing Friday night football games regularly for 30+ years.  We certainly didn't have our own boys involved for that many seasons. Saturday excursions for football has been part of our routine for nearly 20 years.  The only possible drawback to the idea of double dipping this year will be the arrival of a couple new little Warthogs in the next few weeks.  That may have a tendency to keep her in the Waverly/Waterloo area after games for a few more hours than usual.

My Mom is on suspension on going to the Friday games. Our team is on quite a bit of a losing streak when my Mom decides to go to the games. We even lost the last televised game she watched.
The suspension is not indefinite, but is still under review.

The Knights 1 night game is enough for me. I prefer the day game atmosphere. Their night game will be fun though; A quality foe, maybe the best QB in D3 & a 75 year football celebration.....On another D3 note, a nice article about the Wart's Josh V (D3 & Knight's pg - A little biased-Josh is my son's(wartIII) roomie @ the Wart.)....on a personal note, I am posting from central/northern mn on a family vacation - relaxing/fishing & the week will be more relaxing as wart jr (may knight grad)was offered & accepeted a position in CR starting in a couple of weeks. Mom & dad are sure relieved & proud, especialy with the tough job market!!

My wife and I were talking about night games this weekend.  We agree.  1 night game the first home game of the year and then maybe a 3pm or 4pm start for your homecoming game so you can get in a parade and other homecoming fun in is enough for us.  We like the 1pm starts.  Of course, if every school did that, you could end up playing 4 of your 10 games at night.  And I don't think I would like that.

As for your son, congrats on the job.  Always nice to see an IIAC education leading to gainful employment after graduation.  Now you can tell him HE gets to bring all the tailgaiting supplies!!!

Last time Central played at Augustana, I visited the Rock Island Arsenal Museum before the game.  I recommend it.  It was fascinating and I don't even care much about guns.  I knew wars were complicated businesses but it wouldn't have occurred to me that at one time, they needed a whole big factory just to make nose bags for Army mules and horses.  Mrs. Rex didn't care much about the museum but she liked driving around the island because she is a big fan of Gone With The Wind and that was where Ashley Wilkes was a POW.

Man am I ever ready for football season to start!

If you're anywhere near Ely, I recommend spending a relaxing evening on the porch of the Chocolate Moose.  Great food, too.
